World number one Scottie Scheffler has been detained by police outside Valhalla Golf Club before the second round of the US PGA Championship. Well that's an unexpected development.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/golf/articles/ce7r83p87r3o

He's facing a possible felony charge for assaulting a police officer. The incident was witnessed by a reporter whose version........ "differs"........ from Scheffler's.

It sounds like both parties are in the wrong here.  Cop probably should have realized Scheffler was a golfer and probably overreacted when Scheffler did the “don’t you know who I am” bit.  Players were given rental SUV’s that are clearly marked.  On the other hand, Schefflee tried to drive through a police barricade after being told not to and drove off (“slowly”, lol) with the cop hanging off the side of the vehicle.  What kind of idiot does that?

We went out to the course for the practice rounds on Wednesday, and when we saw the news of the pedestrian hit today, were not surprised. Just the way the road is around the course and darkness, and the traffic and cones and all that make for a bad combo.

I think it's definitely a "both parties are wrong" thing with Scheffler. I've had my share of run-ins with overzealous LMPD traffic cops on the scene of a fatality. I got pretty good at standing my ground while also not getting arrested. But, I think if Scheffler would've stopped for a second and got someone over there that knew who he was, he would've got in just fine.

It was surreal waking up today and turning on the local news to see that the number 1 golfer in the world was in jail in my town.

I wonder when the last time an active PGA player died during the season and or during a tournament.

Payne Stewart in 1999, perhaps; hopefully no one since.

That was only thing that came to mind.

They're saying that he took his own life.

Sad as hell.

You'll be as shocked as I am to know there are people who are blaming the *you know what* for his death.

This serves a reminder that the internet was a mistake.

I’m sorry, but I’m dense. What is the “you know what”?

The Covid vaccine.  (And other vaccines in general too) 😕

Also, in the wake of this news, Lexi Thompson is retiring from pro golf.  She's only 29, but has been competing at the pro level since she was 12 (she joined the tour at 15).

Gotta think this will not be permanent unless she's got an injury she's not telling us about.

Man, Rory McIlroy choked at the US Open final round yesterday. McIlroy dropped shots at three of the last four holes allowing Bryson DeChambeau to claim his second US Open title. McIlroy last won a major in 2014.

RIP Chi Chi Rodriquez age 88.

That's exactly where my brain goes any time Rodriquez is mentioned.
