My local 'obvously a drug front/ money laundering operation' shop went out of business in the pandemic. No more £1 DVDs for me. But it did have the 'ridiculously low stock levels and obvious lack of attention' thing. Like who ever heard of a DVD shop that doesn't arrange the shelves alphabetically?

The greatest heel faction on the US indies for the last ten years was 44OH!. Their gimmick was being from (near) Cleveland.

How ironic. Manchester United, having colonised the word "United", are now going to colonise the phrase "Doing a Leeds". To the point that it probably won't be called Doing a Leeds anymore. Since the inception of the Premier League, the number of teams that have been in it throughout that history and never been relegated is vanishingly few. Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs and Everton. And suddenly we're looking at the next Premier League season as one where 2 or 3 of those teams could be relegation favourites.

Independent Wrestling in 2025
AxB replied to Dolfan in NYC's topic in FEDS JUST TRYING TO MAKE A BUCK
Jordan Oliver was previously the leader of a faction called Young Dumb n Broke. Alec Price's nickname is The Prize City OG. So I'm guessing it's Young Dumb n Prize, or Young Dumb n Price. Once there was a trios team of Jordan Oliver, Nick Gage and Action Mike Jackson. They were called Young, Middle Aged, Senior, Average IQ, with a Pension Death Kill. -
RIP George Wendt. Everyone in Heaven just shouted NORM!

It's one of the things that is kind of unique to wrestling, the whole "Person who has only ever watched WWF/WWE and thinks that makes them knowledgeable". In most other fields, that can't really happen. If someone knows a lot about Taylor Swift, they don't think that means they know the entire history of popular music. If someone knows a lot about one NFL team, they don't consider themselves an expert on all sports internationally. But there is a class of obsessive WWE fan that thinks of themselves as a living encyclopedia of Pro-Wrestling, but would be utterly nonplussed at the suggestion that Io Shirai has a sister who also wrestles.
-
I think they were waiting for a British Wrestling Newz Aggregation website to report that it wouldn't be available on Triller (especially if said website would even speculate that AEW and Triller's relationship might be falling apart), so then they could put it up and make the Newz sites seem less credible.

Spoilers THE LAST OF US (TV Show) - SPOILERS (for all mediums)
AxB replied to RIPPA's topic in MOVIES & TV
Craig Mazin is now saying "We need at least 4 seasons". So either they're going to be pacing themselves pretty slowly as they go through the plot, or they're going to continue the story beyond the ending of the second game. -
I think the main difference between "Northern USA style" pro-wrestling and "Southern USA style" pro-wrestling is, Northern Style is based around the Immortal Unstoppable dominant babyface, and Southern style is based around the scrappy underdog Babyface who survives a beating. Consider the way that not only does every Hulk Hogan match feature a spot where he simply stops selling all of the accumulated offence he's taken and gets all fired up and unbeatable... so does every Bret Hart main event ("He was playing possum!"), every Shawn Michaels main event (the kip up of Health bar restoration), and every John Cena main event (although for some reason the WWE fans didn't accept his Super Cena routine, the way they did with every other WWE Ace). Whereas your big babyfaces in Southern promotions, they get less shine at the start, the heel heat segment goes longer, and they typically are selling accumulated damage during their comebacks and their victory celebrations. Think like the Rock n Roll Express, or JYD in Oklahoma, or every Terry Funk babyface match ever. Think like Dusty Rhodes. Basically the Northern style is about giving you a Superhero to admire, while the Southern style is about giving you an underdog you can relate to, and suffer alongside.

WRESTLING ON THE INTERNET NOT FROM THE NOW
AxB replied to RIPPA's topic in The PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING
No, that's a different Sabu vs Cactus match. The unsmashable bottle match was in ECW in 1995, but it was one of those ECW "Night before the Arena show" matches. Also, it was Sabu failing to break the bottle over Cactus' head, not the other way around. -
AEW TV - 5/14 - 5/20/2025 - Willow Rider Is A Little Higher
AxB replied to Dolfan in NYC's topic in ALL ELITE WRESTLING
If the only version with the proper graphics was also the one that was only 90 minutes long, I can see why they went with the full version. -
Gal Gadot specifically is having a hard time filming on location in London right now, but that's because whenever the film crew sets up on a public street, crowds of protesters arrive outside and start chanting about Freeing Palestine.

Happy 35th Birthday to this show (19th May 1990)

There's probably people who consider themsselves big wrestling fans that legit think that The Hardy Boyz came up with the Poetry in Motion themselves. It's just Air Sabu. Giant Baba told Sabu he didn't want him bringing chairs int othe ring, and so his tag partner (RVD) started dropping to all fours so Sabu could jump off his back to hit a leg lariat in the corner. Here is Sabu vs Hayabusa, from 28 August 1994: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmK6hqNYSCc&pp=ygUQaGF5YWJ1c2EgdnMgc2FidQ%3D%3D Highlights from Sabu & Horace Boulder vs Atsushi Onita & Sambo Asako from 1992 (no-rope barbed wire match): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jANAqcV0Pz8 Sabu & The Sheik vs Atsushi Onita & Mr Gannosuke: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rh6ByyB15Ac

AxB replied to Dolfan in NYC's topic in ALL ELITE WRESTLING
The full show is on Fite, only for some reason all of the "Coming up later" sub-graphics are whited out silhouettes, rather than the actual proper images. Like that. -
Yeah, that's a good list, if you're just listing Sabu's best ECW & TNA matches. But he also had good matches in FMW, NJPW, AJPW, and lots and lots of indie promotions.

At the same time as WCW was "Too Southern", the most heard voices on every WWF show were Jerry Lawler from Tennessee, and Jim Ross from Oklahoma.

They should do an Andor spin-off show about Dedra Merro, showing the Coruscantian perspective on the events of the original trilogy. How the Empire is over the moon with glee at having captured Leia, destroyed Alderaan (they could do loads of propaganda broadcasts about what a bastardous traitor Bail Organa was, and how the collateral damage of destroying his whole planet was a worthwhile cost to ending him). How they can't believe the Rebel Alliance was stupid enough to collect all of their forces on Yavin-4 and soon the glorious Death Star weapon will ensure peace throughout the galaxy. Like cast somebody as an embedded Galactic News reporter on the Death Star, and have them giving an exciting countdown to the exact moment when the Rebel Alliance is finally compromised to a permanent end, it gets to 3... 2... 1... and the screen goes black, and everyone on Coruscant lets off party poppers and starts spraying champagne everywhere... and then the screen stays black for ages, and it's not until hours later that they find out the Death Star was destroyed and the Rebels survived. The final scene of the final season of the show is Dedra getting a message that she's being promoted and transferred, and we see her reporting for duty on the Death Star 2 right as the closing credits hit.

For some reason, DoN 2025 isn't available to buy on Fite yet. It's awfully close to the show... usually you can buy them a month in advance, but not this time. They should add a roulette wheel to the Double or Nothing ordering screen. So you randomly get it for either double the price, or for free.
