OCTOBER 2015 WRESTLING DISCUSSION
Zakk_Sabbath replied to RIPPA's topic in The PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING
As much as they (rightfully) tout their ability to make their own stars, I do feel like having a WWE guy like Alberto in such a prominent role went a long way in getting WWE-only fans interested in LU. And it's not that I don't want to see ADR back in WWE, it's that I know it's a matter of time before his character becomes stagnant and he's JAG -
New Legends Roundtables seem like such a no brainer for the Network. I mean, I'd have to imagine they cost next to nothing to produce.

OCTOBER 2015 WRESTLING DISCUSSION

Oh dear, do we need to go back to telling folks to "lurk and learn"! I always heard it called "shine" when the babyface is getting over. And this is from guys who had been around at least 15 years, most of them 20. Maybe I'm an idiot but I wasn't familiar with that term until I started lurking here in high school, and later, PWO. -
I'm going to be honest, I'm not even sure I knew she was a she.I just assumed she was a dude who really, really liked Wade Barrett. Anyway, I wish I were more specific on the Sting/Angle stuff being in WWE. I wasn't an avid TNA viewer, but I really enjoyed their matches I saw in TNA, especially the triple threat with Christian. But like everything in TNA, the atmosphere just isn't there. And I can't quite explain it, given that NXT is in a small building too and is one of the best hours of TV today. Its such an intangible-- something that exists outside of match quality, or shitty booking or bad commentary or whatever ones criticism might be. And thank you for the tip on that empty arena match, too, I'll have to give it a watch. Same goes for Sting/Foley. Loved the Beach Blast match obviously, and thoroughly enjoyed the TNA cage match for what it was, but to see them do it on a bigger stage would've really added to the proceedings. I dont know why I feel this way and can't just enjoy the TNA stuff. Maybe I've been subliminally buying into the whole "moments" shit that WWE has been selling for the last decade. Or maybe I just like watching guys work in front of big crowds in big buildings, letting things breathe a little more, Im not sure

I don't understand how Vince didn't at least learn SOMETHING from the time business was in the shitter from 92-97. I spent most of last year talking about how they were setting Roman up to fail like they did with Diesel, but now that he's even less hot somehow, it's like he's Lex without the bus. -
That actually would have been really cool I bet. But assuming they brought him in before WM XIX we could've also gotten Sting vs. Angle, Brock, Rock, Austin, Shawn, Jericho, Foley or even A healthy Undertaker. Edge would've been a good one. He and Eddie would've tore it up. Even him vs. flair or Hogan in a WWE ring would've been a treat. He probably could've had a super fun street fight with Vince like those two did. And assuming he stuck around, he could've been part of getting Orton, Cena and Batista over. Ok sorry guys that's enough of my fantasy 2003 Sting booking, I promise

Shawn and Flair were not part of WCW in the eyes of WWE. Sting was the face of WCW, they would've jobbed him out so fast. That's a great point. I want to believe they would've treated him better than Steiner, Booker, Goldberg, or Nash just because he did such huge business in 97 and 98, but you're probably right. On the other hand, even if they did job him out to reign of terror era HHH, I really don't know that he would've fallen far enough to feud with Test like Steiner or form a comedy team with Goldust like Booker.

Indeed it is. I almost think it's like the spiritual successor to Legends Roundtable, in a way. On an unrelated note, if anyone here has not yet watched the Flair/Steamboat Rivalries episode, I implore you to do so. This might be a weird comparison, but it brought me back to being a kid and watching the 70s Steelers teams on NFL Films with my old man.

I'm so sad Sting got hurt, man. Every second of that Rollins match until that injury proved that he could still go. I am utterly convinced that had they brought him in instead of, say, Scott Steiner way back in 2003, he could've had a career resurgence rivaled only by maybe Shawn or Flair.

Maybe Show will grow his hair in, put the Andre singlet back on, and go back to being the WWECW EXTREME GIANT. That shit was awesome. -

Great read, but that's total bullshit about Apter. Maybe he's jealous no one refers to anything as "a Mitchell Sheet" -
The Sting/Page/Vader Table for 3 was pretty good. I wish Vader talked a little more about transitioning to the WWF in 96 but the whole theme was "WCW Legends" so I guess I get why they didn't. For some reason, and I'm not saying it was "scripted more" or anything, but this one just seemed a little more rigid, like DDP was kinda driving the conversation to certain places at times. I still enjoyed the hell out of it, just a little thing I noticed. I love love loved Sting & Vader's impressions of Harley. And I won't spoil it, but there's a funny moment when Sting is asked what his favorite WCW memory is.

I was wondering that myself. I don't really follow lucha that much, other than LU, but happened to catch the Mistico story in the lucha folder here when I logged in earlier today. -

This conversation prompted me to check out Bundys Wikipedia page where I found out he once worked under the name Chris Canyon. Was this widely known and I'm just an idiot?? -

They're going to accomplish that by having Jericho inexplicably go over Owens on Saturday. If it's a fluke win, and KO gets his win back at HIAC in a match where he absolutely murders Jericho, it might help both guys if done properly. Jericho, while he still gets great reactions, could use a small boost after consistently losing for a few years now. And Owens would get instant cred with a clean (and most importantly, brutal) win in the rematch. I have no faith this is how it will go down, but hey -

I'm not in love with the idea of Rollins being US champ again, but if Cena dropped the title to him at MSG on that Network special, it would probably go a long way in convincing people that these Network specials are can't-miss affairs -

Wake up, sheeple-- this is down low disciplinary action for switching piss cups with Hornswoggle! Kidding aside, I hope everything is cool. I didn't know he had a sick brother. On a selfish note, I'm super bummed the US title open challenger won't be making a comeback. I thought that was Cena's best stuff in ages besides the Owens match -

No one talks shit about Crash Holly on my watch. I have buddies who haven't watched wrestling since middle school who still remember the 24/7 hardcore title and the super heavyweight gimmick fondly -
