WWE TV - 6/30 - 7/13/2025 - Brons Over Baghdad
Eivion replied to Dolfan in NYC's topic in WWE PROGRAMMING
The opening with Rhea and Io wasn't particularly interesting but did what it needed to do in setting up their match. Thought it would be the direction they would go though I was partially hoping we might get Asuka/Io. I assume Rhea finally gets her big win over Io though I hope Io retains. Was not sure what to expect from Finn/JD vs. New Day given both teams being heels, but it was nice to see the crowd gradually fully turn on New Day and get behind Judgement Day just to see New Day lose. Thought this ended up pretty good with the crowd getting quite hot by the end. Was surprised to see Finn and JD take this one. I don't hate it as I think they gave the New Day the titles way too later after their turn but it is just a pinch disappointing since this run hasn't been what it could be. I did like Finn later using his win to push Pearce and Aldis to keep the women's tag belts on Raquel and let Roxanne replace Liv as champ. Roxanne getting the official vote into Judgement Day was nice as well. Sheamus/Rusev was good though it still feels like Rusev has no real momentum with the crowd. All the stuff with American Alpha backstage was fun. Its a shame Gable is out though I love that he immediately placed Ivy in charge. Kaiser getting the nod for EGA was surprising. I don't hate or love it though I suppose I'm happy he finally has something to do. Bayley/Lyra was rough in parts but good. The roughness kind of added to it a pinch as emotions were running hot going into the match. I assume the draw finish means we get a triple threat with Becky. Just curious if its on Evolution or SNME. Sami/Penta vs. Bron/Bronson was good. Post match went as expected though its nice to still see Jey with high role as he came in for the big save. The wrestling was good here though 4 matches in this time frame is still too little. Tag titles match was probably MOTN though the other three are worth checking out. The build to SNME an Evolution was in full swing here with some solid matches being set and other general stories moving decently forward. Pretty solid show, arguably even good though the small match count still keeps me from going fully that direction. -
Goto's reign was never going to be long so that isn't surprising. Still nice to see him get 4-5 months and the most defenses in the current lineage of the belt.

Not sure Sculdun was in position to do much of anything given it was his money that funded the rebellion. Seeing as how his wife was openly with Perrin at the end I doubt Sculdun got away unscathed. Regardless you could clearly see Perrin was unhappy with Mon gone despite still living his luxurious lifestyle.
-
I think it was more a time heals wounds and whatnot type of thing. He was already open to returning to WWE prior to going to AEW. WWE just didn't want to bring him back. Most of his stuff before returning to actual wrestling seemed to just to have something to do. Having millions is great, but I imagine you get bored fast when you're an athlete used to constantly training, performing, and/or competing.
-
To be fair the husband was likely putting on a front to some degree. They had to leave out a planned scene where he revealed to Mon he had been covering her ass for years as he was regularly interrogated about her. You can even see at the end he clearly misses her. Their marriage was political and understood as such between them, but he did care for her more than he let on.

I never knew this even existed and that vid made me feel a little depressed.

Probably positioning as she has also slammed Nia with ease -
Only caught the first episode of Ironheart so far, but it seems solid. I like the pacing what they seem to be building so far.

Trick/Briggs was good. The Hendry attack post match was unexpected, but I'm also not following TNA too hard. Also nice to see him though so I had no complaints. Tavion/J'Von was pretty solid.I assume Evans will be feuding with Jasper soon going off of the post match attack. Ricky/Adonis was solid. The Page attack after was expected and in hindsight a bi tgiven how the first tow matches went. No sure who thought a third post match beating in a row was a good idea. Stacks/Tony for the Heritage Cup was solid. More issues cropping u between Tony and Luca post match. Honestly this feud isn't doing much for me despite liking the wrestlers involved. The random vacating of the title by Dar alongside the disappearance of other former NXT UK wrestlers has me thinking thy are either the next batch of releases/contract lapses or the recent NXT Europe attempt #2 rumors are legit. Hope its the latter. Jordynne vs. Izzi vs. Lash vs. Jaida was good. Thought the action was good and everyone involved got in good moments. Still Lash came out of this looking the best with the showcase she got. Was nice to see the moving Tatum's story with Izzi here though Zaria and Sol kidnapping her after one interference attempt was amusing. With Grace winning here I assume her title shot at Evolution will be her NXT hurrah before hitting the main roster. Just feels like she isn't the one meant to beat Jacy with Blake around and plenty of other women in NXT showing they can decently keep up even if not realistically on Jordynne's level yet. Even with some questionable booking I thought this was a pretty solid-good show wrestling and story wise. Trick/Briggs and the main event were the clear stand outs match wise though Tavion/J'Von is worth a catch. -

Seemed like Jade wanted to lift Roxanne back up and transition to her finish, but had too much trouble getting her back up. Not sure why as I'm pretty sure Jade has lifted much bigger women than Roxanne before for stuff life this. -
AJ has been there since that time so creative either just changed their minds, or Dom has a legit issue he needs to heal form.
-
Renegades release feels like a confirmation that EoF was delayed a pinch seeing that six months between expansions is seemingly the goal. Just looking at the stream right now I'm mostly just happy to see a crossbow finally in the game

Didn't hear the first part of Seth's promo in the opening, but what I caught seemed like solid heel stuff. Bron/Penta was pretty good as expected. Surprised it more or less ended cleanly though the post match played into Seth's earlier comments well. Jade/Roxanne built into a pretty solid match. Roxanne was good as always, but this was pretty decent performance from Jade that played mostly well into her strengths. Bayley/Becky was building into a great match before the Lyra finish. Don't mind DQ finishes, but the way it went down here just didn't work given the earlier tease with Lyra not giving in Becky's goading. Still, this at least gives a decent idea of where all of this is likely heading in the form of a 3-way feud though I'm not sure how lyra will fair in that situation. Raquel calling out Rhea and the subsequent brawl was fun. Was happy to see Roxanne help Raquel and the two come out on top. It was very much needed with how Raquel has been made to look with Rhea in the past. It also moved Roxane's story with Judgement Day forward some with this serving as the incident to thaw out Raquel's feelings towards Roxanne. Jey/Cody built into a surprisingly damn good match. I wasn't sure how a face vs. face match with these two would work out, but it went well here with respect never going away, but the two not holding much back trying to hit their best shots. Also had a decent big match feel with the two playing off that early on. Its been good seeing Jey's singles work finally starting to catch up with his higher position. This and the last Gunther match still hit way better than I expected. Hopefully he keeps this up and more. Still too few matches, but everything here was good or more. Bayley/Becky might have ended up MOTN for me had the finish been better, but Jey/Cody were seemingly always going to be fighting hard for the spot. That one went way better than expected and definitely earned its spot as the main event. I thought the storytelling here was mostly good as well with the final bits of Night of Champions getting solidified and some decent furthering of other ongoing feuds. Good show tonight. -

The Knight/Heyman opening was fine to set up Knight vs. Reed. Asuka/Alexa was pretty decent but nothing special. Sami/Orton was good. Disappointed Sami lost. Him vs. Jey or Cody would have been a more interesting final. The Stratton/Jax segment was fine as a setup to the LWS match for next week. Charlotte/Chelsea was solid. Still feels like there is a better match to be had between them. Enjoyed the post match with the Secret Hervice pounce and Alexa save. I like this gradual humanizing of Charlotte. Its been long overdue. The Solo/Jacob segment was solid. Nice to see a title match between them set though I wish it wasn't on a show I don't watch. Knight/Reed was solid. Post match murder of Knight was good. Truth/Cena was fun while it lasted. The post match stuff between Cena and Punk was better. Cena doing his own pipe bomb variant calling out Punk for his bs from recent years was kind of awesome. Even as much as the crowd loves Punk they couldn't really disagree and cheered on. Sami/Orton was the standout here with the rest of the matches being fine but necessarily worth going out of one's way to check out. The storytelling was stronger as a whole though its hard for me to get excited since I skip Saudi shows. Solid show. -

Jaida/Thea was solid. Dug things starting off hot with the Thea attacking before Jaida's entrance even finished. The finish with Jaida tapping out where only Thea could see in the ring was a nice cheap heel move. Lash/Kelani built into something pretty decent by the end, but it felt like there was a better match in them. Still, it was good to see Lash take the victory here. She really hasn't received many chances as a singles since she improved a couple of years back. Hopefully she can impress this run. Trick/Wes/AJ (Top Dollar) vs. Elijah/Briggs/Inamura was solid. Thought this was a fun match with plenty of decent action mixed in with nice character from many involved. Not seen any of the former Top Dollar since he was released a second time, but its nice to see he has found himself a solid place character/ring wise. He fit in with Wes and Trick well. Zaria/Izzi was pretty solid with both women getting in a nice showcase. Thought this was one of Izzi's better matches. The finish was on the weak side though it did its job in furthering the story both have with Tatum. Jordynne/Lola was solid. Dug Lola taking the early advantage and how she would counter at time sin the later stages. Grace using her power to come back at various points was nice to see. Even with some off moments I thought this was one of Lola's better singles in recent times. Thought Blake's contract signing did exactly what to needed to do in making her look like a star and elevating Fatal Influence in kind with their interaction. A part of me would have preferred Blake fending off the group successfully here, but the reverse was probably more necessary. Given the what happened here it feels obvious Blake will be the one to dethrone Jacy despite the build to Evolution. No blow away matches here hough the wrestling was generally solid. Was nice to see so much focus on the division with the mini tournament to decide Jacy's next defense taking over the show and the main event being Blake Monroe's signing. Solid show. -

Dug the opening segment with Liv, Dom, and Kairi. Its good to see Io getting bigger segments and focus like this. Asuka vs. Vaquer vs. ivy vs. Raquel was good. Tons of nice action with everyone looking good and having their moments. Was a pleasant surprise to see Asuka win this and I dug Rhea factoring in to the finish for some revenge on Raquel. Vaquer probably should have won this as the newer talent, but Asuka getting a good reaction and push like this upon her return is a welcome site, and Stephanie doesn't lose anything here as someone who didn't take the pin loss. Gunther's promo and the setup for Goldberg/Gunther at SNME was fine. Have to admit though nothing here would probably please me short of Gunther either squashing Goldberg or beating Goldberg in one of his best matches ever. AJ/JD was solid. Dug the post match stuff with Finn and the title. Bayley's segment went a bit wrong and some of it felt a bit off words wise. Still the passion was solid and the message got through to the audience. Becky was also on point as usual. Kairi/Liv was travesty. Reminded me of ow Mayu Iwatani got injured off a normal dropkick. Its a damn shame given Liv was clearly being built for a big title match with Io and some sort of big match with Nikki Bella as well. Hope she doesn't have to be out too long. Jey vs. Sheamus vs. Bronson vs. Rusev was good. Was a bit disappointed with how little Rusev vs. Sheamus there was here, but otherwise this delivered like the women's match. Was good to see Reed get in some beast moments. This current incarnation of Rusev finally got a good crowd reaction. Jey had some nice hero moments. And Sheamus was Sheamus which says enough with how he delivers every time. The overbooking in the finishing stretch was well executed and brought even more drama to the final stages of the match while playing into the various feud Seht's group has going on. I do wish the post match was stronger. Feels like it would have been better to end on some action than Cody and Jey staring off a bit after Seth backed down. Even without Liv/Kairi not really happening this show felt hort a match or two at four. Even saying that the matches that did happen did deliver. The King and Queen qualifiers in particular stood out well here with all involved shining to a decent degree sans maybe Ivy Nile who still looked good. The actual stories were solid and forward moving as well. If there was another solid-good match or two and Liv's injury hadn't happened I would honestly label this a good show. Still, pretty solid as it was. -
Opposed to a better match I assume they mena bigger match which is not wrong per say, but that is also a match that doesn't need a belt. Goldberg/Gunther would be a match that interests me if I knew Goldberg was willing lose.
-
Always seemed obvious to me that the loser of the title match would get the last spot. They didn't sell it as a serious mystery, just Pearce waiting to make his final decision.
-
Opening segment was fine. Knight vs. Orton vs. Hayes vs. Black was good. Everyone looked good here, and I dug the finishing stretch. The camera shots were perfect. Jade vs. Piper vs. Nia vs. Mia was solid. Dug Piper and Nia ganging up on Jade and Mia. Still, the crowd was quiet during much of this with no one really having much momentum. Naomi's promo with Tiffany right after the match was pretty solid. Dug a pissed off Nia on the attack. Dug her scaring off Naomi a bit less so. Lumis/Gacy vs. MCMG was decent despite some awkwardness from Lumis. What I caught of Cena/Punk segment was good. Was nice to see Truth attack Cena again right after. Charlotte vs. Alba vs. Alexa vs. Candice was decent. Candice and Alba teaming up like Nia and Piper earlier was less interesting. Charlotte being the victim of choice wasn't the best either though I hink Charlotte had better comebacks. I dug the finish with Alexa sneaking out the pin on Candice just before Charlotte could get submission from Alba. The looks they gave each other were great. Cody vs. Priest vs. Andrade vs. Nakamura was good. The wrestling tonight was fine though it was just the Men's KotR qualifiers that really delivered. The story bits were stronger though this show still felt on the long side with how things played out. Not the best show though still solid.
-
Both were trainwrecks, but Moon Knight was a slightly more interesting trainwreck. Secret Invasion just made me angry with it being such a waste of a good cast.
-
Why would anyone subject themselves to the Inhumans series? Its made by the same showrunner who ruined Iron Fist.
-
I'm ok with it ending at S5. Doesn't need to go too deep and we still have 3 seasons to get there.
-
Page/Legacy was good and a nice showcase from Legacy. Was good to see Ricky on the attack post match. Briggs/Inamura vs. Spears/Niko was decent. Lash/Wren was pretty decent aside from the botched finish. Feels like Lash should have just hit again properly to keep it from ending flat. Didn't care for Kelani on commentary. She just isn't particularly likable character wise right now and desperately needs to go full heel if they want people to actually find her interesting. Mariah's vid was neat though maybe a bit too inspired from what she learned from Timeless Toni even with more themes from Marilyn Monroe and more modern setting. Still not a bad gimmick or name though it feels weird given most already know who she is. Feels like they could have at least kept the Mariah name like they did with Ricky Starks/Saints. Jacey/Lainey was pretty solid and a nice debut for Reid. Tony/Luca vs. Tyson/Tyriek was decent though the bit building off the lack of trust between Tony and luca took me a bit out of it. The finish in particular felt kind of flat. Just not sure where this story is going, and if its going the obvious place with Luca turning on Tony then drawing it out just feels dumb and annoying. Oba/Jasper was a good hoss fight building well off the hurt ribs Jasper caused at the beginning of the show. Everything Jasper did here was simple but well done with that imposing size feel really coming through despite him not being too much bigger than Oba. Oba looked like beast in his comebacks and came out of this looking great. The wrestling was solid overall, but it was the title matches that carried things to that level. Thought all three matches did exactly what they needed to in making the newbies look damn good while still providing good victories for the champs. Its interesting realizing watching this show how often the title belts around the shows have changed only halfway into the year. Oba and Stratton are the longest running champs at six months. Made the matches feel like there was at least somewhat of chance of a title switch happening, especially Oba's match given how it kind of built on what happened with Jey/Gunther last night. The non-title matches were fine but not likely what they could have been with the focus being more on the story aspects that led to them opposed to the actual wrestling. It was nice to see Evolution build start here with there being a bit of mini tournament to find Jacey's challenger. Will be interesting to see who they choose. Most would be better champs than Jacey right now so it will interesting if they have her drop the belt there. Anyways solid show overall.
-
He defended against Logan and Seth. As for whether its worse than Kofi's. Kofi's reign was a bit boring with no noteworthy matches. Jey actually defended against the biggest heels, been in the biggest stories, main evented a ple/ppv with Cena, and fought through hell and injury only losing do being essentially knocked out. Kofi's reign ended in less than a minute to Lesnar. Honestly Jey probably had the better reign despite it being short. He grew in way that had the crowd completely into him as a main eventer. Its only been the smarks that haven't cared for it, and much of that was because he beat a favorite in Gunther.
-
Opening with Cena and Punk was a solid setup for their title match. Sadly, I can only give so much of a damn since I don't watch Saudi shows. AJ/Gable was solid. Rhea vs. Kairi vs. Liv vs. Roxanne was good. Dug the story of this one being Liv finding herself gradually working well with Roxanne until the finish with Roxy sneaking away with the win. Beyond that I thought everyone mostly looked good here. Was happy to see Roxanne get the win. She probably needed it more than the others and it worked as another move forward in her story with attempting to join Judgement Day. Dug the Becky segment. Her trying to gaslight the crowd into thinking she was the sane one and not a complete bitch was amusing. Bayley's return was nice to see though a part of me wishes it happened after Lyra beat Becky's ass down again. Truth coming in right after that segment was surprising. As was the hair cut. Kind of like that he is coming back as Ron Killings. Will be interesting to se him be less of a comedy character after so long. Sami vs. Dom vs. Penta vs. Bron was good. Dug the push with Bron as a beast here. Surprised they managed to mostly keep this everyman for himself outside of one moment to put the beating on Bron. Knight coming in for the finish was a nice surprise and worked well to set up Sami to take the win. Skipped around the Nikki Bella segment until Liv came in. Liv was nice with how fired up she was. Nikki had some decent comebacks as well when talking shit. Will be interesting to see if this leads to a 1 on 1 or a Brie return with the Bellas challenging for the tag belt at Evolution. Happy Liv is getting a big match either way though I kind of hope its the latter. Would be nice to see the titles themselves in a big spot, and the Bellas were among those who wanted tag titles for years for obvious reasons only for them to happen after both retired. It would be good to see them challenge for the titles at least once. Jey vs. Gunther was pretty darn good, maybe their best match yet. Really dug how this was worked around Jey's busted ribs and the fact that he was overworking himself the past few weeks. All this worked to set up pretty nice struggle for Jey throughout the match. Kind of loved the ending stretch being a battle of sleepers with a struggle happening for both guys. As well executed as all this was I have to admit I'm not actually big on Gunther retaking the belt. Feels a bit too soon considering just how well Jey's run as champ had been going with the audience. This felt like the time to give him a nice heroic win. It feels even more odd given Seth and friends current heel run. Curious to see where it all goes though right now I'm overly fond of it. Even with my complaints I thought this was a good show. The storytelling and wrestling delivered here with plenty of interesting things being set up and every match being generally good. Still felt one or two matches short, but we at least got a great main event out of it in Jey/Gunther.
