  1. Well, I can't LIKE this because I LIKE the move too much - as done by Danielson. If you'd indicated you were talking about Jon Moxley's version I'd give you the trophy. I'm very thankful Mox has stopped using it regularly. That said, I think you're totally right and I often think about those reasons during his matches, but then go back to loving it.
  2. Re: Punk For every Watt, Ian, or Cosey Fanni Tutti there’s a backward gazing fascist racist homophobe in the name of punk. Or somebody freely expressing their inability to be kind and thoughtful. There’s also a glut of shitty bands adhering to a 3 chord formula in solidarity to some kind of ‘truth’. Not to say there aren’t good ones too - some of which are pretty self righteous as well. Punk is whatever you want it to be - good (creative, open to new ideas, often anti-norm) or bad (all forms of egotistical fascism). I’d also suggest for all the truly great punk rock the everlasting ‘tude led us into this hot take era - ignorance and all.
  3. I’m hoping that somehow leads to Mercedes respecting Willow and giving her the rub and a new partner (after Stat’s sorta surprising heel turn). Not that a babyface match with that history is a bad idea. I just don’t want a heated feud with Willow that messes with her heat nor do I want her losing to anybody even the former NJPW champean. If you wanna book another loss to the lady in between wwe stints, as somebody that sees Willow as a potentially huge drawing star, I’d be good with that, but a loss is not even a booking sheet consideration. And for good reason$. I want a union that leads to a Mercedes turn well down the road. When Willowmania is fully established and there’s no chance of her being booed against MM.
  4. I hope you’re still feeling Randy come Winnipeg. The catalog is deep especially when you bring Cummings into the mix. That said, a Guy Maddin reference, that wouldn’t likely have even semi-wide appeal, would be pretty outstanding. I love this card. I’m feeling like somebody sets their sights on the Mone. I suspect the Doctor might be in. Hoping and wishing for a Rebel by her side. Terribly interested to see how Joe defeats Wardy. What a great line-up!
  5. I hope you see the other half of Anatomy. I loved poor things similarly, and in year of really excellent conscious films, poor things had some of the best messaging of all.
  6. My vote goes to Angelico. Or Bryce Remsberg.
  7. I really liked her as Aldis’ second during the early NWA power run. The few actual matches I saw with her were not particularly strong, but she was working greenhorns. I think she has potential.
  8. In their current state I'll give you no argument, but they will Hopefully move on. When they do I know there's a few us who feel, at some point, that Anthony Bowens could potentially have something to offer as a singles. Caster too. He's greatly improved over the course of his time in AEW, and his charisma suggests it's way too early to write him off.
  9. Lance Archer and Dutch. They've looked great together on ROH and, I think, Rampage-Baby. They just need to get Vincent to stand in the corner rather than the apron.
  10. I really wish they'd send the Bears to New Japan for a year. The Jack Perry loan has me hoping for more. It's a great way to fine tune things and freshen up. I've often wondered what Private Quen and Isaiah Party would look like after some reps in New Japan rings. The Gates, for example, have looked a lot better since their Tag League run. Tho, they could use more time overseas. And New Japan clearly needs some fresh talent.
  11. I like that workmanlike Dreamer look too. He ruined it later with polka dots and added flare, but the shirt and simple dark pants were perfect for that character. When Raven's t-shirt would get ripped off we could see he was in good enough shape to not wear it, but the shirts were kinda neat. When he later stopped wearing it his look wasn't nearly as effective, but that may be more the bad eyeliner etc.
  12. Absofuckinutely! It's such a better presentation for him, and it matters. I just don't see him getting over with the audience at large in yellow spandex. Wrestlers without the million dollar physique shouldn't be afraid to look to ECW for costume inspiration. Like, would Raven or Sandman or New Jack etc etc gotten over displaying their physiques? The ROH back to the tights thing in the early 2000s was a huge mistake. I'm glad Kevin Steen figured that out.
  13. Couldn't agree more on the Huller comment. I suspect you'll go back to Asteroid City and that tone might just work. This was my favorite Tom Hanks role in 35 years. Tho, I've avoided a great many of his titles since Big. Fallen Leaves is a very subtle movie and won't be for everyone. I found it very meditative and incredibly (and deservedly) heartwarming. If you haven't seen any Kaurismaki films the pace could be a bit jarring, but if so try and stick with it. I think it'll work out in the end. He, Kaurismaki, is kinda the Finnish Jarmusch. Tho, his movies generally have a bit more emotional density. Jarmusch's Patterson with Adam Driver felt akin to his Finnish friend's films. I totally get the apprehension to see Maestro, and I don't know anybody that loved the movie as much as me. I thought Bradley Cooper was so fun in the Bernstein role. I also thought the movie had a great pace. Carey Mulligan was the stand out for a lot of ppl, and I totally get that too. Yeah, you've got the right idea with Zone of Interest. I urge anybody reading this to go see that movie in the cinema if you're able. Honorable mentions for best of the year to three films not recognized by the Academy - Andrew Haigh's beautiful film All of Us Strangers, Christian Petzold's captivating Afire, and Todd Haynes' excellent May December. I suspect the subject matter of the Haynes film was a bit too challenging for the Academy. I don't know how Haigh's film slipped passed, but again such a strong field of choices. I'd still like to catch Oscar winner the Boy and the Heron.
  14. I don't think it was quite clear that Deonna was working heel at the PPV, but what you're suggesting about the Collision segment makes sense and I really really really hope you're right. EDIT: who joins Deonna to battle the dynamic duo?
  15. What a great year for film! This was easily my favorite collection of 'Best Film Nominees' that I can remember. I'm always happy to see films and filmmakers I like get a commercial boost from the Academy. Particularly happy to see Zone of Interest take some hardware. I've long loved Glazer and was glad to see him get a nod for arguably his best yet, but especially happy for 'Best Sound'. I suspect the picture will play well on the small screen, but seeing this movie in the cinema was so captivating. Too unnerving for most I'd have to assume. What a year for Sandra Huller! Also glad to see Justine Triet win for the Anatomy of a Fall screenplay. There were a lot of films that challenged the times and momentum-building-relentless-misinformation, and AOAF was amongst the best. Teachers Lounge, which didn't win, also felt like a great awareness raiser. Lanthimos' Poor Things too! Between that and the Curse - what a great year for the talented Emma Stone. Nice to see Da'Vine Joy Randolph's wonderful supporting role in the excellent Holdovers take the win. Also, pleased to see first time director Cord Jefferson take home some hardware. I loved American Fiction. Oppenheimer and Nolan were certainly well deserving. I loved KOTFM and Barbie too. Past Lives was very thoughtful and really good. High(est) voter on the Maestro too. I'd argue more ppl would've been on board with it had they had the opportunity to see it in the cinema. Great sound picture. I was a little disappointed that maybe my favorite movie of all Kaurismaki's Fallen Leaves didn't get any of the Academy rub, but that's somewhat to be expected. Strange hearing Wes Anderson win for that strange and really interesting (I need to see it again) short take a win while not getting any attention for the excellent Asteroid CIty, but the field was strong nonetheless. Again, what a year!
  16. I feel much the same about Miro being unprofessional, whiny, etc. But... what actual facts of the matter do we know concerning his story and time in AEW? Seems like a lot of hearsay. Tho, I may have missed something. Certainly I've purposely missed some Important Tweets. Miro did an interview with Renee a year or so back, and seemed pretty content with AEW and especially the schedule. I believe it was sandwiched between disappearances.
  17. Really enjoying this Bucks/Okada dynamic. This was kinda fun too... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ze9OkyhQsuM Bishop Khan speaks! The Gates are starting to find their way. Toni/Mariah are so f_cking wonderful! Mistico-Danielson?
  18. What a run! This Collision show had flow and felt a bit more important than a usual Saturday Night. No surprise to see Shane Taylor v Danielson have an excellent opener. Taylor is a bad ass. Really loved this and the post match Will Ospreay/Danielson segment. Ospreay is earning his money in ring and on the mic! Such great charisma and connection with the crowd. Ospreay killed this. Okada/Bucks squash ruled. I loved seeing Okada destroy these guys, and it made for a strong full time debut. Post match Pac/Kingston/Penta confrontation was full of fire. So great to have Pac back in the fold. The Trios match is gonna be so fun. Can't wait for all these Okada singles too. Darby/Jay video was very good. Mariah May v Adora was a great showcase. On an increasingly stacked roster, Mariah May is slowly becoming the best part of the show. Incredible charisma, great offense, etc. Toni Award ceremony was the good kind of silly. But, ugh, please stop trying to make Deona a goddamn babyface. Riho/Nighingale video! Loved all these promotional videos. Nick Wayne v Adam Priest was a nice showcase. Wayne's starting to put together a strong act. Mother Wayne rules. Adam Priest is so good. They need to find a place for him on the Honorclub roster. Copeland run-in was fun and energized. I kinda dread a 'what's in the box?' angle. Feels a bit 'Devil'-ish, but these guys are pros and I trust they have something up their sleeves. Jarrett/Leathal/Briscoe promo was good. I really liked Jericho v Titan. I thought they clicked. Future graphic reads 'Titan is All Elite'. Hook getting a little Sand-y there chasing off the rising Gates. So stoked for this Tag tournament. Speaking of which. The FTR promo was good and solid. Cash is great. Dax was great here. The Infantry interruption was okay. Dean/Bravo have vastly improved over their ROH run. Curious to see if FTR can lead them to a breakout bout. Mistico v Angelico was terrific. I'd love to see Angelico work more Luchadores. I'd love to see BCC bring him on for their CMLL beef. House of Black v Briscoe/Lethal/Jarrett was kinda fun. I think I might've liked this one more than most. Looking forward to seeing Mark beat the shit out of all three of those ghouls in singles. What a fun show! Great promotional videos throughout. Tho, I wonder why no Wardlow-Joe video? Or did I miss it? I was a bit under the weather watching this one, but this show lifted my spirits. A real delight. AEDubyaaa's is starting to build some real momentum.
  19. Thanks, this picture completely represents my point. Again, this criticism based on age is a bit ridiculous considering the precedence of common casting in film, television and stage of older for younger. I can't even think of an example of bad age casting because I generally find it pretty easy to adapt. KOTFM was obviously no exception. An off hand comment likely said in passing by Scorsese, who I have no reason to believe was lying, doesn't make for much of an argument, but it does offer some insight into where you're coming from. It also fuels an assumption I have - Marty is more than likely getting some backlash from Marvel Universe/Comic Book fans for his public disdain of those type of movies. I would suggest Scorsese puts a bit more thought into his casting than you presume. The run time was a hang-up for you, I get it. 'Used poorly' seems at odds with the ppl I've talked to and many, many of the top critics, or ones I care to read, but everyone is entitled to their opinion. I like movies that breathe, and I'm happy this one did. I love JFK, but that pace and editing is what worked for that movie. It doesn't mean it would work here with this far more sensitive story they were telling. It does help me better understand what you were wanting, but, again, it's not the film they were making. I trust (one of the all time great editors) Thelma Schoonmaker alongside Scorsese's choices. And for good reason. The goodwill they've built makes it easy to try and understand their choices before complaining. That said, I didn't have any complants. I thought this movie was beautifully performed, shot, cut, etc. I also thought it was exhilarting like many of the ppl I spoke with after seeing it. Curious what movies you did think were great in 2023?
  20. The Miro TNT title run gets forgotten from being sandwiched between his poor debuting Gamer era (alongside Kip Sabian) and this two year plus disappearing act. I'd argue that TNT Title run was as good as any. The talk of CM Punk failing in AEW isn't quite accurate. He was great til the injuries. And match-wise pretty strong the rest of the way thru. His Collision run was entirely excellent - unless I'm forgetting some quarter hour misfire. Totally, but I sense or hope more for an alignment with Willow (maybe following a Wednesday STAT heel turn?). It just doesn't seem like a great time to pit blossoming top babyface Willow against top top babyface Mone. That said, they continue to try and book Deonna Purrazzo as a babyface and Toni Storm as a heel.
  21. It didn't get across the horror to you. But to a lot of ppl, myself included, it most certainly did get across the horror of the situation. You complain about the running time, but want more murders? The book was the basis for the movie. It's not exactly uncommon practice for a screenplay to focus on certain elements or parts of the original material. Drawing attention to a story for one to do their own further reading is pretty welcome. So what does a 40 something year old in the 1920s look like? Deniro is far from a kindly old grandpa in this movie - subtlety goes a long. long way with such a character. I'd say the same about the entire picture.
  22. Natural-ly. ( for the love of @gordi )
