Mentioning the existence of the New Breed isn't the same thing as weighing in on the gimmick. Has he actually defended or addressed it anywhere, or is that just an idea in your head of a thing that he might say? I appreciate you finding a dumb thing that Corny actually said to take issue with.

I don't even know what argument you're trying to make. That Fiend's character was constructed to sell merch? The plan for Mania was for Reigns to slay the monster, until recently when it looks like it may be Goldberg beating him instead. That isn't my opinion. It was reported by Our Lord Meltzer. Either way - the long term booking points to The Fiend existing as a monster to be slain, just like every single monster heel in the history of the company.

Yeah, that's the thing: you're just assuming his opinion about things you haven't heard him address. There are plenty of things you can hammer Cornette with and be 100% right. You don't have to conjure things out of thin air.

AEW crowds are the choir and OC is preaching to it. There isn't really a reason yet for anyone to think his gimmick will reach very far past existing AEW/indie fans. Could it happen? Maybe. But I don't get the talk about it being some sure-fire can't-miss mainstream success.

The Fiend exists as a monster to be slain by a babyface. That has always been the purpose of the gimmick. And nothing is undermining it. Just because Goldberg isn't going full damsel-in-distress like Rollins, doesn't take away from the fact that Fiend has been booked stronger than anyone since Roman or Brock.

I mean, there's a post right above yours indicating that someone is excited for the match. You can assign your opinion to other people if you insist, but that doesn't make it a fact. I didn't say anything was sensible - WWE's booking has been trash for years. It's just well within the confines of kayfabe.

I think the issue is that he deserves credit, but very few on the board are willing to give it to him. Holding JBL accountable for bullying wrestlers in the early 00's is totally justified - as long as you hold people like Benoit and others responsible for doing that kind of thing, too, and I don't really see much of that. The level of vitriol directed at JBL seems to be based on 1. His cozy relationship with Vince, 2. His politics, and 3. Him not "deserving" to be the one to take the title off Eddy. This level of hatred towards him didn't exist prior to mid-2004, and then it was suddenly at fever pitch.

If they want to grow their viewership they're going to have to reach outside of their base. That means doing things that crowds aren't necessarily going to be on board with. "Find a breakout star" seems like an easy enough solution, but if the closest thing they have is Orange Cassidy, they have a very long way to go.

I'm not familiar with the angle or situation in question (because TNA), just the way you described it. "Like he was supposed to," to me, indicated he was told. Maybe he wasn't. I haven't heard either one of them talk about it, but I'm betting the events are in dispute and that Corny didn't actually expect anyone to read his mind.

"Money grab?" The whole reason there isn't another one is because it's too costly. I'm sure Conrad had to pay out the ass to get Punk there, he has to at least try to make his money back. Also: anyone assuming for no reason at all that AEW would book Punk to appear as a surprise kind of deserves whatever they get. A company trying to get off the ground in a cutthroat industry would promote a Punk appearance. The only wrestling company that would do a "surprise" Punk return is the one that likes to piss away money.

Booking a talent to do something and watching them go out to the ring and not do it seems like a perfectly valid reason to want to fire someone.

It still should. WWE has Main Event still that they've been doing nothing with since its debut.

I guess the big question is: Did WCW actually promote the Glacier debut on Pro before it happened, or did they just throw him out there cold (thanks for reading, folks) after months of vignettes?
