I think the failure of Garvin's reign was waiting until October to give him the belt. It would've served better him winning at the end of August James

St. Ives - There are movies I go out of my way to see simply because the cast is intriguing. If the lead happens to be Charles Bronsson, then it is a movie I simply MUST watch it! The strength of any Charles Bronson movie is really based on how engaged Bronson is in it. Need example: Bronson was engaged onthe original Death Wish but less so in the sequels, especially as the series limped along after DW2. He's really engaged in Assassination, one of his last films, mostly because he and his actual wife, Jill Ireland, get to act opposite each other and they just crackle with electricity together despite the overall movie being just above "Ok". This is one of those Bronson movies where he seems really engag3d. He's working opposite Jacqueline Bissett, Maximilian Schell and a rather spry John Housemam. My lord, Houseman looks middle-aged here, which is odd because this is 5 years AFTER the movie adaptation of The Paper Chase and the same year as the TV series. Bronson is Charles St. Ives, retired cop turned crime reporter/novelist is hired by Abner Procane to retrieve journals that had been stolen from the latter's home safe. St. Ives gets the job done but pages are kissing, pages that outline the plans for a heist. Well now St. Ives is interested and things go from there! Did I mention the cast? It goes beyond the principles as a gaggle of "Hey! That guy!" Actors show up, not the of which are Jeff Goldblum and Robert Engl7nd as 2 hoods! But that's where the intrigue stops because the movie never takes off part the initial set-up. It's not a bad movie, just uninteresting one past it's set-up. It really is disappointing because our man Charles seems to legit interested and trying in this movie. It's like someone watched a good heist movie and thought "I can write a heist movie too!" and then wrote the dullest heist movie ever! It really is a shame, because with this lead and this cast, I shouldn't be wanting this thing to get on with it already, yet here I am writing this review. Not even an interested Charles Bronson can make this movie worth, save for a die hard Charles Bronson completist. James

So tbis morning, Sandy is sitting there in her tablet while I'm watching Hokuto No Ken clips on my phone. Sandy bounds over to me just as Kenshiro launches in to the 100 Crack Fist. Tbis leads to Sandy laughing hysterically followed by her going "ATATATATATATATATA... WATA!" for like 3 minutes. She finally stops ends it all with an "Omae wa mou shindeiru..." and I go from thinking she's adorable to thinking I might need to sleep with one eye open from now on. Tbis isn't the first time she's animeattacked me, as about 2 years ago she smashed an inflatable Thor hammer over my head and shrieked "GOLDION CUSHER!" 100% MY KID! James

The Cruise version of Reacher just didn't do it fir me. Richson's "Sherlock Holmes in the body of Jason Voorhees" approach is so very entertaining James

Pink Flamingos was lent to me by a member of the Marvel Bullpen. I'd never even heard of John Waters at that point so when I was told, bluntly, that I had to watch it, I took this person at his word. I was still living at home at this point and my gut told me I couldn't watch this movie in the living room. I was right James

.The Intern - This a pretty sweet date movie without a romance storythread. This is a literal De Niro movie and it's charming in it's own way. Anne Hathaway is Anne Hathaway so she's solid. Strong supporting cast and the late, great Linda Lavin giving De Niro the finger make for a few laughs. I imagine an alternate world where The Intern being a starring vehicle for Jason Statham. In that movie, Statham is the Intern for Anne Hathaway. Statham discovers that Anne's husband is cheating on her (an actual subplot of the real movie) and then Statham secretly goes to her brownstone, beats the crap outta of the husband. After the assaulting the husband asks "Who are you?" Camera zooms on Statham who then says barely whisper "I'm The Intern!" Roll credits! The actual movie is nice, inoffensive and worth watching in a "it's a weekday afternoon and it's raining" kinda way. James

If said team-up involves Diana and Steve punching a lot of Nazis then sign me up! James

3Something that always bothered me about The MOD Squad as a gimmick. Why have them be 2 white cops and not a white cop, a black cop and a blonde as the manager? James

It is a shame they killed off Dudley in L.A. Confidential the movie because he survived in the book and the next book White Jazz, deals with Exley finally taking Dudley down. James

I'll cede you Jackie Brown, but Boogie Nights is a movie that my view on it changes with each viewing. One would think a movie featuring Nina Hartley would get my full throated support. I've never seen The Apostle but now must add it to the "well now I gotta watch it" list. James

I maintain L.A. Confidential should have won the Oscar that year and not Cameron's 3 hour snoozefest James

Didn't Malibu Comics put out a sequel comic? James

Finished The Good Wife and am now steamrolling through The Good Fight because... well... more Christine Baranski, surely we can a dig on that right? Buy damn, I forgot how awesome Delroy Lindo is! Kinda weird considering he was just in Sinners and pretty great In it! Still, I'm kinda shocked I didn't jump on TGW franchise sooner. It was actually watching Elsbeth that got me to check it all out James
-
Make no mistake, Christine Baranski could make a movie of her in a business suit in black heels reading a thesaurus and it would get all the stars! She might be the only part of Chicago I like and she has, what, 5 minutes of screentime? James
-
I saw a commercial for Bride Hard while binging episodes of The Good Wife (my infatuation with Christine Baranski is... problematic). I initially couldn't figure out if it was an Abrams brothers style spoof or a spinoff from Bridesmaids. All I took away was that I have no interest to see it, even on a dare! James

Oh, Lensman is the 80s-wst anime! I saw the movie at Film Forum ages ago (along with *shudder* Robotech The Movie). It the perfect "let me put this on as background noise" anime movie James
-
But what about DC Cab? How can you deny yourself a movie starring Mr. T, Gary Busey AND The Barbarian Brothers? James

I saw Wise Guys in theaters when it came out and remember liking liking I was like, 12 or so. Back then I would go see a movie when skipping Hebrew School, I didn't skip Hebrew School to watch it again. That's saying something about my subconcious I think, considering that I saw DC Cab 3 times in order to skip Hebrew Scholl James

Since when is 3rd Bass cloying? Maybe use "Gas Face" instead? James
