January 2022 Discussion of Wrestling
For Great Justice replied to RIPPA's topic in The PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING
Good news for budgeting this invasion angle is that, as we all know, Trent already has Scott Hall’s denim in the AEW wardrobe. Now only a question of if it fits Gargano. -
Regal / Danhausen buddy cop gimmick Oh shit I never realized this but Regal might be the most BTE-perfect human being in pro wrestling

The big six man tag ends with Cody dropping the leg brother, and it alllllll comes full circle -
Sign me up for semi retired stay at home dad Triple H, taking the kids to soccer practice and keeping the thrill alive by promoting spot shows every other month at the Polo Club.

Oh man Coach TK is gonna Mid South the shit out of that April Lakefront Arena show in NOLA. Someone get Excalibur a Boyd Pierce suit and find out where Hacksaw put that gorilla costume. Punk and MJF, tuxedo coal miner’s glove on a pole cage match?
-
TK’s penchant for hyperbole means “North American” is more a limiting factor here than “Dream”. Dream for me is a Monty Brown comeback pouncing the shit out of hamandeggers on Dark

NXT "New Year's Evil" (January 4, 2022)

We’ll see. This feels different than a Keith Lee or Ricochet. This checks every single box Vince looks for in that spot including being a home grown guy. I’m not even sure “Roman-ing” it by overpushing him would fail as who doesn’t want to cheer for a dude talking shit doing crazy-ass high impact Steiner offense. -

Bron is about as can’t miss as there can conceivably be. An absolute future megastar and their next GUY unless they royally screw this up. -
I think we can file Atlas under “AEW is signing way too many wrestlers, but this is the sort of wrestler they should be signing”. 27, good look, not overexposed on national TV, looked great on Dark.

Prime was unequivocally the E show, in the best way

Get well soon Roman. Falling backward into Lesnar/Reigns (yes I know, again) at Mania maybe isn’t the worst outcome. It’s the biggest match they have.
-
If they get a fiver, I’d be curious if Anna Jay would be the youngest (in terms of # of total matches wrestled, not age) to garner that honor.

The Brandi Booking Vortex in full effect tonight. Not even Dan Lambert is safe. Wardlow is WCW singlet-era Sid right now and it’s great. The Batista turn is going to blow the roof off whatever building they’re in when they do it. Jade has crazy ups: -
Avalon/Cutler is probably the best match in Dark history to me in terms of capturing the spirit of the show. Paying off a show-exclusive storyline and s tier commentary.
-
I just can’t see the Hook font and not immediately think that I’m walking alone, in the unknown. Living to win another victory.

Agree on WCW Giant being underrrated. Yeah the 2008 post-Mayweather run was his best (and that No Mercy match against Taker at the top of that list), but shit, I’ll take 1997 Giant on WCWSN vs Meng, Roadblock, Traylor or whoever else over anything else he did in WWE -

Thus closes the chapter on what was in my personal opinion TK’s first significant misstep as a booker: 1) Sammy being the least consequential title holder in company history and 2) the fact that Miro ever lost it in the first place -

Mr. Wrestling II? EDIT: On second thought, doesn’t count as he and Wrestling I were clearly presented as separate acts, so that’s more a Lucia successor type situation. Ignore. -

Flair/Steamboat house show match I saw during that Spring 1994 loop. I was 10 and they hit all the classics. Was at Taker/Shawn 25 as well. -

I have kind of thought Mox would first come back to fight Punk for (in the spirit of the heel always believing he's right) using Mox's personal situation to get cheap heat. Those two just feel right soaked in red in bunkhouse match with kneepads over the jeans and Merle Haggard shirts.
