Anecdotally, it seems that kids are really into Cody. You did hear the crowd perk up when they teased him eliminating Punk a couple times before it happened. In regards to the crowd, I think WWE may have the same issue a lot of sports have. The expensive seats that are close up and on-cam don’t get filled with the passionate fans. They’re the people who are there for status. I haven’t watched a WWE PLE in a couple years, but I tune in last night and there are the same dorks down front in their same stupid “trademark” shirts or whatever and they’re on their phone the whole time or trying to make the right reaction face to go viral, but not really getting into the matches. Like, I don’t see Crockett getting involved with MTV or selling NBC on their product. We watched the 92 Rumble yesterday morning, so the amount of people just laying around in this year’s really stood out. In 92, the “non-featured” wrestlers would at least be looking like they were attempting to eliminate someone.

Agree. But there’s also probably an argument to be made that, if not for Vince, we’re not all talking about pro wrestling here right now.

I know AEW has their attendance issues, but I’ll take a smaller, passionate crowd over a huge one with the same handful of dorks in the front row every show reacting to nothing.

@Matt D really nailed what I was trying unsuccessfully to articulate way earlier in this thread. All things WWE are Vince’s idea of what it should be. People talk like he thinks people should talk. People look like he thinks people should look. The whole presentation is his vision. It’s all done by him and for him. Hopefully that changes soon. I could see reasons why they shouldn’t go away from that. The company is massively successful. Why blow that up? But that’s why I have a hard time with it.

That might be the worst ring announcer I’ve ever heard. I don’t know if it’s Dunn being gone, but that was the least annoyed I’ve been with WWE production in a very long time. I still can’t stand the commentary where no one speaks like a human, but the way they shot and punched the show was way better than last time I watched. Punk looked like shit. His hokey look at the WM sign every two seconds was dumb. He seemed winded pretty much immediately. Why do they have like 20 minutes between every match? I felt like it was an hour between the women’s Rumble and the start of the 4-way Oh, one positive thing I’ll say was that it was cool seeing how diverse their roster is now.

I feel like, if you're not going to allow piledrivers so wrestlers start using piledriver-like setups to do faceplants or whatever, then there should be a storyline thing where piledrivers are banned and lead to a DQ and suspension or something. Then, at least, your wrestlers don't look dumb for going for the less-devistating move.

Sometimes the really bad sociopaths (as Vince clearly is) are very good at hiding stuff from the right people, too. Some of the people we've mentioned who may have been somewhat close to him could very well have had no idea. Maybe some inkling that he was having an affair or whatever, but perhaps not that his behavior with this woman was so monstrous. This made me realize that I was confused about some of this. Is this most recent news (the horrible details that came out yesterday) the same incident that he was ousted for last year (or whenever that was)? If so, while it already looked bad that they let him back in before, now it REALLY looks bad.

Put yourself in that woman’s shoes for a second or imagine she’s someone you know or care about. When I do that, I see @piranesi’s reaction as being pretty reasonable. This is infuriating, disgusting shit.

I respect that, but that’s hard for me to do with Vince/WWE. That company is such an extension of him. He may not own it now or be totally in charge like he used to be or whatever, but it’s his vision.

My kid is so excited to watch the Rumble this weekend. God, I don't think I can sit through it. I don't really want him to watch either, but how do I explain why? This is all so gross.

The fact that the two wrestlers announced for this show are guys I have not heard of, but now want to check out really badly is a great tribute to Dean. His excitement for some random name I'd never heard before led me to check out a ton of wrestlers that I wouldn't have found otherwise. I so wish I could attend this. I think it's a really sweet gesture and such a cool tribute. I'll definitely be checking it out on IWTV.

For the record, I think Hook works wonderfully as a heel to us over-40 dudes who look at a slice of pizza and get fatter. He's out here flaunting his metabolism with his pizza and his chips. Just wait, man! One day that'll all catch up with you!
