twiztor
Raw 10/22/01 @ Kansas City, MOVince & Linda opening promo. Shane & Steph interrupt and get lyrically spanked. Survivor Series, 5-on-5, Winner Take All. Lita & Trish vs Ivory & Mighty Molly this was not good. Nobody was on cue and nothing looked crisp. the WWF women basically dominate and win when Lita Twist of Fate/Moonsaults Ivory. 141-159 WCW Cruiserweight Title: Tajiri vs Kidman (c) very good match. tajiri has most of the offense, but it looks great. Kidman has a noticeable limp but it doesn't slow him down. Tajiri becomes the champ after a fantastic Buzzsaw Kick. 141-160 DDP promo. He's still doing the motivational speaker deal. Kane interrupts and Chokeslams him. US Title: Rhyno (c) vs Kurt Angle man this match is REALLY good. Rhyno's offense looks believable and the crowd bites on every false finish. Rhyno with a GORE! but but men tumble to the outside Rhyno drags Angle back in for a 2 count. Ankle Lock! Rhyno taps out! New US Champ! 141-161 European Title: Bradshaw vs Hurricane Helms (c) Bradshaw is no-nonsense here Bradshaw completely dominates and wins with the Clothesline From Hell. 141-162 Multiple Commissioners Foley/Regal segments. Foley ridicules Regal at every turn. Undertaker & Kane vs Booker T & Test not bad. lots of brawling but solid action. cool finish as Test gets Kane up for the Pumphandle Slam, but Taker Big Boots him and Kane reverses it into a Tombstone Piledriver. 141-163 Hardcore Title: Rob Van Dam (c) vs Big Show match is all Big Show. he looks super dominant. RVD is able to get flashes of offense, but it looks like wasted effort. RVD sprays a fire extinguisher, but Show gets a chair up to block it. RVD capitalizes on that opportunity to connect with the Van Daminator and a Five Star Frog Splash for the win. 142-163 WWF Tag Team Titles: Dudley Boyz (c) vs Rock & Chris Jericho pretty decent match. good tag work by the Dudleyz. Rock is ridiculously over. a competitive contest ends with a Rock Bottom on D-Von! New champs! But how will they co-exist? 142-164 SmackDown! 10/25/01 @ Omaha, NEShane/Alliance promo time. He berates his employees independent contractors for losing so many titles Monday, then instructs over Alliance members to attack their own. Chuck Palumbo speaks up (the only wrestler to get mic time) and Stephanie fires him. Austin comes out to unite the troops. #1 WCW Title Contender Alliance Battle Royal JIP. really? Mike Awesome AwesomeBombs Tommy Dreamer to the outside through a table. ouch. comes down to Dudley Boyz - Booker T & Test - RVD. Dudleyz out. T&T eliminate RVD. Booker eliminates Test from behind as he's celebrating. Trish Stratus vs Mighty Molly pretty good match here. Trish wins after a bulldog (precursor to the Stratusfaction?). When's the rematch? 142-165 US Title: Christian vs Kurt Angle (c) very solid match here. Angle's suplexes and technical prowess vs Christian's underhanded tactics. Angle rolls into an Ankle Lock for the submission win. 142-165 WCW Title: Booker T vs Chris Jericho (c) this was good but went under 5 minutes. crowd was hot for this. Jericho wins with a roll-up bridge pin that the camera inexplicably cut away from. 142-167 Tazz vs Al Snow because Tazz was mean to the Tough Enough kids. Al Snow wins in a meh match. 142-168 WCW Tag Titles: Dudley Boyz vs Hardy Boys (c) this was ok but once again way too short. we only get like 3 minutes. ending was out of whack as multiple people were out of place. i wonder if the match got cut short for some reason. Dudleyz with the 3D to Jeff off the top rope to become the new champs! 143-168 Hardcore Title: Rob Van Dam (c) vs Rock this was good. they brawled on the entrance ramp early. fun use of plundah in the ring. Rock has RVD in the Sharpshooter. Enter Shane attacking the Rock. Vince chases him off. Five Star Frog Splash, but the Rock kicks out. Test with a Pumphandle Slam, but Jericho makes the save. Booker T hits Rock with a garbage can, and RVD rolls him up for the successful title defense. 144-168 Metal 10/27Lance Storm vs Crash Holly decent enough. Storm counters a hurracanrana attempt into the Single Leg Crab. 145-168 Mike Awesome & Tommy Dreamer vs X-Pac & Albert Heyman was JUST talking about Dreamer & Awesome's issues during SD's battle royal. now they're partners. Awesome looks good, but Albert dominates and Baldo Bombs Dreamer for the win. 145-169 Hardy Boys vs Hugh Morrus & Justin Credible Hardys win in a match that was much more even than i imagined. 145-170 Chavo Guerrero, Jr. vs Funaki this is our main event? ok match. Chavo via Brainbuster. 146-170 wow, what a one-sided week. at least we got some good matches out of it. i AM interested in seeing if anything happens with Chuck Palumbo (not likely, i know). it's a damn shame that basically every WCW and ECW wrestler have disappeared from the main shows. seriously. where's Lance Storm? Mike Awesome? Kanyon? even Stasiak is MIA.
twiztor
HeAT 10/28/01X-Pac & Albert vs Raven & Justin Credible X-Factor gets another win that nobody cares about. 146-171 European Title: Kanyon vs Bradshaw (c) Bradshaw's Clothesline wins again. 146-172 WCW Crusierweight Title: Hurricane Helms vs Tajiri (c) solid fun match. Tajiri via Buzzsaw Kick. 146-173 Test vs Edge actually a decent match. too bad we end in a double countout. Raw 10/29/01 @ Louisville, KYVince announces his Survivor Series team: Undertaker, Kane, Kurt Angle, Chris Jericho, Rock Shane says that one of those guys will join the Alliance...tonight! InterContinental Title: Rob Van Dam vs Edge (c) solid match but not amazing. Both of these guys have looked better recently. RVD misses the 5* and Edge with the DDT to retain. 146-174 Hurricane & Mighty Molly vs Tajiri & Torrie great action when Helms and Tajiri were in the ring. not so much otherwise. Molly holds the tights and steals a win over Torrie. 147-174 WWF Tag Team Titles: Booker T & Test vs Chris Jericho & Rock (c) Jericho and Rock take turns attacking each other, then breaking up pinfall attempts. they still manage to win, with a Rock Bottom to Booker and a Walls of Jericho on Test. 147-175 Stacy Keibler vs Lita this was not so good. Matt accidentally elbows Lita in the face, but she still picks up the win with a Twist of Fate. 147-176 US Title: William Regal vs Kurt Angle (c) decent match, but JR and Heyman arguing largely detracted from it. Angle makes Regal tap out to the Ankle Lock. 147-177 WCW Tag Team Titles: Dudley Boyz (c) vs Undertaker & Kane this was fine but didn't seem to have much meat to it. Kane gets blasted in the face with a title belt and then 3D. 148-177 Street Fight: Shane McMahon vs Vince McMahon WrestleMania Rematch! Vince has total advantage the first 4 minutes. Shane attempts (and misses) a sloppy Shooting Star Press. more brawling. Shane with a top rope elbow drop on Vince through the announce table. tons of interference. Long story short, Angle hits both Jericho and Rock with a steel chair. Austin Stunners Vince and Shane wins. 149-177 so yeah, Angle joined the Alliance. that's the most illogical heel turn since..... Austin? SmackDown! 11/1/01 @ Cincinnati, OHAngle explains why he joined the Alliance: he "wanted to be on the winning team come Survivor Series" WWF Tag Team Titles: Rock & Jericho (c) vs Test & Booker T i guess since the match on Raw wasn't close at all, T&T get a rematch? this match is pretty decent. the animosity between the champs is largely absent here, until Jericho inadvertently missile dropkicks Rock. Test follows up with the Big Kick and we've got new tag champs. 150-177 Hardy Boys & Lita vs Dudley Boyz & Stacy good match. Matt gets 3D'd for the finish. More dissention in the Team Extreme camp. 151-177 US Title: Kurt Angle (c) vs Kane decent brawl for a while. Austin attacks Kane with a chair. Kane fights back and embraces his inner monster and takes the lead. Cool finish as Kane has Angle up for the Tombstone, but Angle crawls down his leg and secures the Ankle Lock, forcing Kane to tap out. 152-177 Hardcore Title: Edge vs Rob Van Dam (c) this was fine but never really got out of first gear. RVD's 5* Frog Splash nets him the pin after Test interferes with a Big Kick. 153-177 William Regal vs Tajiri short but sweet. Regal gets a surprisingly clean victory after the Regal Cutter. 154-177 WWF Title: Undertaker vs Steve Austin (c) Austin jumps Taker on the ramp. they brawl at ringside for awhile. back inside, more brawling. Taker has the most output, but Austin will land sporadic big shots that seems to even the odds. Crowd is loving this. ref bump. Taker nails Austin with a chair. Chokeslam. Kurt Angle runs down, causing a DQ. Austin & Angle beat on Taker. 154-178 Metal 11/3/01 Coach announces that Christian beat Bradshaw for the European title before SmackDown went on the air. Gee, if only there was a TV show where they showed matches from the SD tapings. Guess we really needed to see the third Albert-Morrus match.Shawn Stasiak vs Billy Gunn Stasiak on offense for most of this match- it wasn't pretty. Gunn by Fame-Ass-Er. 154-179 Spike Dudley & Crash Holly vs Chavo Guerrero, Jr. & Justin Credible decent enough. Has to win some kind of award for weirdest pairings. Spike with the Dudley Dog, but Chavo off the top rope, and Credible scores the upset. 155-179 Hugh Morrus vs Albert ugh. 3rd time's the charm i guess? pretty nothing match. Albert by Baldo Bomb. 155-180 Billy Kidman vs Jeff Hardy good match, lots of fast paced action. Jeff Hardy wins with the Swanton Bomb. 155-181 they spent all of SmackDown hyping up that the Alliance was unified but Team WWF is in shambles. i mean, i can see what they're going for. Team WCW can only win when Team WWF self destructs. Obviously, Team WWF will not be able to coexist at Survivor Series and will cease to exist for the rest of time. i said this last week, but where's all the WCW guys? Lance Storm and Kanyon are both solid workers. Rhyno was at least upper mid card and we haven't seen him in a while. On another note, what a downgrade for Spike Dudley. he was set to team with Big Show on the last PPV and here he is losing on Metal.
twiztor
Rebellion 11/3/01 @ Manchester, UK InterContinental Title / Steel Cage Match: Christian vs Edge (c) this was the 8' high black bar cage, for those keeping score at home. was this the last use of it? good match. it lacked some of the heat from previous encounters, but definitely a good way to kick off the show. a solid 13 minutes that saw some good cage play. fun finish as Edge catches Christian's legs in between the bars of the cage and ties them together so he can't escape, then climbs over the top himself. 155-182 Scotty 2 Hotty vs Hurricane Helms this match picked up steam as it went and really got quite good by the end. fast-paced action that didn't see much down time. highlight was Hurricane attempting his own WORM, Scotty interrupting it, then Helms going for his ridiculous chokeslam. This leads into.... Scotty hitting the WORM, the crowd coming unglued, and Scotty picking up the win at 8 1/2 min. 155-183 DDP vs Big Show at under 4 minutes, this is a glorified squash, but it was a good one. DDP with a surprise Diamond Cutter (RKO outta nowhere!), but can't make the cover. Show recovers first and lands a big Chokeslam for the 3 count. 155-184 WCW Tag Team Titles / Elimination Match: Dudley Boyz (c) vs APA vs Hardy Boys great action in the opening stanza. the tags come quick and it all feels fresh. 5 minutes in and Faarooq gets a Twist of Fate to eliminate the APA Dudleyz dominate the next 5-6 minutes with their excellent teamwork. Hot tag to Matt and we go up another notch. Right at the 12 minute mark, Matt can't lock on the Twist of Fate and the Dudleyz with the 3D to retain. 156-184 William Regal vs Tajiri started off a bit rough, with their styles not meshing well. But after a minute or so, they had it figured out and the match was pretty decent. Felt like your average Raw match. Regal made Tajiri submit to the Regal Stretch for the semi-surprising win. 157-184 WCW Title: Kurt Angle vs Chris Jericho (c) this was a pretty decent match but again felt like they were holding something back. Jericho has really turned it up a notch since being slotted into the main event role, but i didn't really feel that here. Angle was also lacking his usual intensity, although that could be the heel turn. Angle attempts the Olympic Slam, but Y2J counters with a roll-up for the win, reminiscent of the Angle-Kane SD match. 157-185 Mighty Molly & Stacy Keibler vs Torrie Wilson & Lita Trish Stratus is the special referee for this. match goes less than 5 minutes. Torrie and Stacy are terrible, as per usual. Lita is presented as the best, by far. She Twist of Fates Molly for the win. 157-186 WWF Title: Steve Austin (c) vs the Rock match gets a jump start early on as they brawl around ringside and to the top of the entrance ramp. Austin keeps control for a lot of this. He also uses a lot of middle fingers, which is more blatant than we usually see on TV. they trade Sharpshooters. ref bump. typical overbooked finish. Angle hits Rock with a chair. Jericho makes the save, but Rock thinks Jericho hit him. Rock Bottom to Austin. still no ref. Angle hits Rock with the title belt. Stone Cold Stunner. 1-2-3. 158-186 this match was more fun than this writeup would imply, but there's a lot of brawling and not much to specifically call out. fun to watch, crowd was hot. i guess i viewed this show as a pay per view and expected more. Nothing was outright bad (except the women's match) but nothing really stood out as being amazing either. After match #3 i started to get worried that the faces would win every match (WWE did this last time they ran a house show in my town and it really took me out of the whole thing). Luckily that was not the case. No Booker T or RVD surprised me. was this the event that was "voluntary" for the wrestlers, but when RVD turned it down he got heat?
twiztor
HeAT 11/4/01 Albert vs Scotty 2 Hotty nothing match. Albert by Baldo BombRaven vs Chuck Palumbo pretty mediocre match. Palumbo wins with a roll-up. 158-187 Justin Credible attacks Palumbo after the match, and Billy Gunn runs out to make the save. Tazz vs Spike Dudley this is Joined in Progress because whoever taped this couldn't get his satellite dish to work. ha. Tazz suplexes Spike all over the ring and makes Spike tap to the Tazzmission. 159-187 Ivory vs Trish Stratus both women are wearing black pants and shiny purple sleeveless tops. odd. Trish debuts (and wins with) Stratusfaction. 159-188 Raw 11/5/01 @ Long Island, NY dark match: Crash Holly vs Brock Lesnar cool to see this one. Lesnar is the powerhouse and Crash is a pinball for him. Brock gets the win here. Vince to open. He says someone from the Alliance will jump ship and join Team WWF at the Survivor Series. and he says that someone is "Stone Cold" Steve Austin. Austin runs down and Stunners Vince.Ivory vs Lita no entrance for Ivory. big crowd pop for Lita. meh. Lance Storm distracts Lita, Matt Hardy comes out to even the odds, but he's too late as an Ivory facebuster scores the 3 count. 160-188 InterContinental Title: Edge (c) vs Test Test completely dominates Edge early. Edge with a comeback spear. Test crotches Edge on the top rope and has the most blatant feet-on-the-ropes moment ever, but it nets him the win and the IC belt. 161-188 not a great match, but it turns out OK by the end.European Title: Christian (c) vs Hurricane Helms a rare Alliance vs Alliance match. and for no reason. good match but too short. Christian wins with the Unprettier. US Title: Undertaker vs Kurt Angle (c) decent enough match i guess, but it didn't do much for me. Taker survives the Ankle Lock for WAY too long, then reverses it into an Ankle Lock of his own. Austin attacks Taker, causing a DQ. 161-189 Tables Match: APA & Jacquelyn vs Dudley Boyz & Stacy Keibler i don't really see the point of this match. it's not much of a match anyway. just brawling. everybody fighting everybody. Bubba tries to PowerBomb Jackie on the table, but she escapes. Faarooq spinebusters Bubba through the table for the win. 161-190Rob Van Dam vs Booker T JR tells us this is a Hardcore Title match, but it's not announced that way. Tajiri attacks Regal, who had joined us on commentary. Big Show runs in and chokeslams both men. no contest. guess the belt wasn't on the line afterall. WCW Title: the Rock vs Chris Jericho (c) Jericho controls a good portion of this. He's using lots of strikes. definitely feels like a personal rivalry, more so than their previous encounters. Rock with a Sharpshooter, and it seems like the tide may be turning. Jericho with a Rock Bottom to halt that momentum, but only a 2 count. He follows that up with a Breakdown through the announce table. back in the ring, Jericho attempts the Walls of Jericho, but the Rock with a small cradle and gets the 3 count. new champ! Another great match here, and completely different than their last couple matches. SmackDown! 11/8/01 @ East Rutherford, NJWCW Tag Team Titles: APA vs Dudley Boyz (c) pretty by-the-numbers tag match here. not a bad opener though. Dudleyz 3D Faarooq for the win. 162-190 InterContinental Title: Test (c) vs Matt Hardy typical Test match. goes like 3 minutes. Test retains after a Big Kick. 163-190 WCW World Title: Booker T vs the Rock (c) Book focuses his attack on Rock's injured arm. Rock fights back, Jericho attacks Rock from behind. Rock gets Book in the Sharpshooter, RVD interferes for the DQ. 163-191 Jericho hits Rock with a chair, RVD Frog Splashes Booker. William Regal vs Big Show match never really gets started as the WCW jobbers rush the ring. Big Show squashes them all. i guess this is a DQ win for Show? 163-192 Jeff Hardy & Lita vs Lance Storm & Ivory OK for what it was, but that's not much. Team Extreme picks up a quick win. 163-193 Christian vs Tajiri neither the European nor the Cruiserweight titles are on the line here. Tajiri completely dominates the match with his unorthodox offense. Tajiri looks really on point with his great kicks and submissions. Christian ducks the Buzzsaw Kick and delivers an Unprettier for the win. 164-193 Undertaker & Kane vs Steve Austin & Kurt Angle Kane's "not here", so this becomes a handicap match. match is all brawling. it bounces back and forth between Taker dominating both men to their number overwhelming him. Taker shoves Austin into Angle, then schoolboys him for the ridiculous win. what? 164-194 post-match, Austin Stunners Angle. what? Metal 11/10Justin Credible vs Spike Dudley not bad. they trade finisher reversals until Spike pulls out an Abdominal Stretch into a pin. i'm sure there's a name for that, but i don't know it. 164-195 Tommy Dreamer vs Perry Saturn good matc, very engaging. Saturn fights out of a DDT attempt into the Credunza. 164-196 probably the best Dreamer's looked during this whole Alliance debacle. Chavo Guerrero, Jr. vs Jeff Hardy quick match. Jeff wins after a Swanton Bomb and he accidentally lands right on top of Chavo. 164-197 Raven & Hugh Morrus vs Albert & Scotty 2 Hotty thus begins Albert's transformation into the Hip Hop Hippo Albert Baldo Bombs Hugh Morrus for the win. haven't we seen this before? 164-198 A clean sweep for the WWF! i feel like WWF has gone into full "Fuck WCW" mode. they haven't looked this bad since the first couple of weeks. Again, no sign of anybody that actually came from WCW or ECW on the main shows (except Booker T & RVD). I'm a little bit sad that next week is the culmination of my last 5 years of this project. Then again, i'm kinda relieved. i definitely burned myself out from late 2016/1999 until mid 2017/2000. Oh well, down to the final five shows to watch!
twiztor
HeAT 11/11/01Albert & Scotty 2 Hotty vs Hugh Morrus & Chavo Guerrero, Jr. decent enough match. Albert dominates (of course) and Team WWF wins. 164-199 post-match, we get an absolutely horrific Albert WORM Spike Dudley vs Billy Kidman solid match, best we've seen on HeAT in quite some time. So obviously is only lasts a couple minutes. Kidman wins with a version of a facebuster that i've never seen. 165-199 Raven & Justin Credible vs Billy & Chuck not bad but not great either. Palumbo Jungle Kicks Credible for the win. 165-200 DDP vs Edge Edge counters a Diamondcutter attempt into a DDT for the win in sub-3 minutes. 165-201 Raw 11/12/01 @ Boston, MAUS Title: Kurt Angle (c) vs Edge very good match. excellent way to kick off Raw. It is evenly matched and high energy. Angle with the Olympic Slam. He locks on the Ankle Lock, but Kane's music and pyro distract him long enough for Edge to recover. Edge with a spear and we have a new US Champ! 165-202 Kane enters through the crowd and beats up 3-4 Alliance members WWF Tag Team Titles: Booker T & Test (c) vs Hardy Boys fast-paced, fun match. Twist of Fate/Swanton/Lita-Can-Rana to Booker T and we have more new champs! 165-203Tazz vs Steve Austin goes like a minute. Tazzmission, low blow, Stunner. the end. Chavo Guerrero, Jr. & Hugh Morrus suck up to Vince. the Alliance fires them.WCW Tag Team Titles: Dudley Boyz (c) vs Albert & Scotty 2 Hotty ok, this match never gets started. Stacy in the ring to distract, but Albert pulls her skirt down (sexual harassment much?) and the Dudleyz flee. Hardcore Title: Undertaker vs Rob Van Dam (c) fun brawl on the entrance ramp. RVD with a cross body off the (lower lip of the) Titan Tron. Booker T attacks Taker from behind. Taker beats up both men for a bit. As he superplexes Booker, RVD off the top rope with a Five Star Frog Splash to get the win. 166-203Mick Foley enters, cuts a fiery promo. At Survivor Series, he's unifiying the tag belts and IC/US beltsnon-European Title match: Christian (c) vs Big Show total and complete Big Show squash. 166-204 post-match, DDP delivers a Diamondcutter and the Dudleyz break a table over his head. WCW Title: William Regal vs the Rock (c) only goes a couple minutes. Rock is wearing his street clothes. Tajiri spits mist in Regal's face and Rock forces him to tap out to the Sharpshooter. 166-205 The Rock calls out Steve Austin. they trade catchphrases for a long while. then they sing to each other. then they duet ("Margaritaville"). this is surreal. Rock Bottom to close. SmackDown 11/15/01 @ Albany, NY SD dark match: Jazz vs Lita fun match, Jazz looked like a superstar. She beats the stuffing out of Lita and comes across as a killer. Lita picks up the win, of course, with a sloppy Twist of Fate.Rob Van Dam vs Kane match is pretty good. these two meshed better than i expected. Booker T interferes, setting Kane up for RVD's top rope ninja kick and the pin. 167-205 Edge & Hardy Boys vs Test & Dudley Boyz this as completely cut out from my video. I only see a replay of the finish. Edge spears D-Von for the win. 167-206 DDP vs Big Show Show comes out and does a lame DDP impression. DDP enters and slugs Show. Chokeslam. 3 count. waste of time. 167-207 Paul Heyman calls out Vince McMahon and then cuts an absolutely SCATHING promo on him. Reminds me of One Night Stand 2005. Heyman puts down Tazz as a way to highlight Vince's failures. Tazz takes offense and chokes Heyman out. Booker T vs UndertakerTaker attacks Book on the entrance ramp and just beats on him. Taker grabs a chain and shoves the referee, causing a DQ. 168-207 Taker beats on Booker some more and Chokeslams him. Tajiri & Torrie vs Regal & Ivory match is pretty horrid while Torrie is tagged in. Regal with some cheap shots. he puts Torrie in a version of the Regal Stretch and the ref calls for the bell. JR says Regal has been DQ'd. 168-208 what happened here? in this match, man-vs-woman was allowed. Jericho & Rock vs Angle & Austin Jericho in the FIP role, but he never really seems like he's in danger hot tag to the Rock and he cleans house. Austin attacks Rock's leg with a chair, causing ANOTHER DQ tonight. 3 in a row, really? 168-209 we get a 1-by-1 showdown of the Survivor Series Main Events. Austin is the Last Man Standing. Metal 11/17/01Raven vs Funaki Raven by Evenflow in a match that was perfectly acceptable. 169-209 why is Funaki still employed? Tommy Dreamer & Steven Richards vs Billy & Chuck not bad. hot tag to Billy and he picks up the win after a cool Palumbo-assisted Fame-Ass-Er 169-210 Saturn vs Justin Credible match is good enough but forgettable. Saturn wins after a stepover armbar that Coach calls the Rings of Saturn, even though it isn't. 169-211 Crash Holly & Spike Dudley vs Lance Storm & Kidman fun match with a good finishing stretch. Kidman pins Crash after his new facebuster (which doesn't look as good as on HeAT). 170-211 As usual, i can't find video of the International broadcast of Heat, so here's the results courtesy The History of WWE: Quote Sunday Night Heat - only shown internationally: Spike Dudley, Albert, & Scotty 2 Hotty defeated Lance Storm, Justin Credible, & Raven when Scotty pinned Credible with the Worm Perry Saturn defeated Billy Kidman via submission with an arm bar The Acolytes defeated Tommy Dreamer & Shawn Stasiak when Bradshaw pinned Stasiak with the Clothesline from Hell Final tally leading into Survivor Series: WCW/ECW 170 - WWF 214
twiztor
Survivor Series 11/18/01 @ Greensboro, NC HeAT match: Albert, Scotty 2 Hotty, & Spike Dudley vs Lance Storm, Justin Credible, & Raven no mention of this impromptu Impact Players reunion. Albert dominates. WORM to Credible. Evenflow to Scotty. Dudley Dog to Raven. Lance Storm Superkicks Spike for the win. fun but short. 171-214 European Title: Christian (c) vs Al Snow this match was set up randomly on HeAT. Al Snow enters to the Tough Enough theme. no more "What does everybody want?" crowd is crazy hot for Al Snow. He looks really good here, too. Snow hits the Snowplow, but Christian gets his foot on the bottom rope. At 6 1/2 minutes, Christian lands the Unprettier and remains Champion of Europe. 172-214 William Regal vs Tajiri Regal catches a kick to the face and his nose gets busted open. the Commish has the advantage for most of this 3 minute match. Regal with the pin after a double underhook powerbomb. 173-214 Regal has completely dominated this feud, and i am baffled. InterContinental Champion Test vs US Champion Edge this match isn't very good. Test is in control for most of the 12 minutes (gotta keep Test strong!) match starts to pick up towards the end. Edge kicks out of the Pumphandle Slam and wins with a forward roll. 173-215 Steel Cage Match: WWF Tag Champs the Dudley Boyz vs WCW Tag Champs the Hardy Boys match starts off a bit slow (relative to these two teams' usual output) but really turned out very good by the end of the 15 minutes. nice moment as Bubba attempts to Back Body Drop Jeff into the cage, but he grabs hold and tries to escape. Stacy Keibler slides a table inside the cage. Counter by the Hardys, and Matt escapes over the top. Jeff on top of the cage, but instead of escaping, chooses to dive back in to land on a prone D-Von. However, D-Von moves and Jeff crashes through the table himself. Bubba pins Jeff, and we've got new unified champions. 173-215 Immunity Invitational Battle Royal WCW/ECW guys: Kidman, Raven, Dreamer, Richards, Helms, Storm, Credible, Stasiak, DDP WWF guys: APA, Crash, Funaki, Billy, Chuck, Saturn, Spike, Albert Test beats up Scotty 2 Hotty and takes his place. Tazz enters late, a man unto himself. Stasiak is eliminated in seconds. Palumbo eliminates DDP to save his partner Billy Gunn Hugh Morrus & Chavo Guerrero, Jr. enter the fray. neither lasts long. Test eliminates the other final 3: Storm, Bradshaw, and Gunn to gain one year of immunity from being fired. 174-215 Women's Title: Trish Stratus vs Jacquelyn vs Lita vs Ivory vs Mighty Molly vs Jazz Jazz is the surprise entrant. she is apparently a part of the Alliance. solid action, but the match only goes 4 minutes, so not much of a story to be told. Ivory gets some Stratusfaction and Trish is crowned the new champ. 174-216 SS Elimination Match: Shane McMahon, Booker T, Rob Van Dam, Kurt Angle, & Steve Austin vs Big Show, Kane, Undertaker, Chris Jericho, & the Rock Rock and Austin square off to start, which is a bit of a surprise. 1st ten minutes are your standard "everyone gets their moment" sequence. Big Show tags in and looks dominant. In short order he takes the Angle Slam, Scissor Kick, Frog Splash, and a Shane-O-Mac top rope elbow, and Shane pins Show. Shane then takes a Kane Chokeslam, Undertaker Tombstone, and a Lionsault to also eliminate him early. RVD with a Five Star Frog Splash (which gets no sold) and a top rope ninja kick to eliminate Kane. Taker single-handedly dominates Team Alliance until Austin gives him a Stunner and pulls Angle on top for 3. Rock with a sudden roll-up and Booker T is gone. Jericho-RVD have a good face off, with Jericho's Breakdown eliminating RVD. Austin & Angle isolate Jericho for a bit. Hot tag to the Rock, and Rock makes Angle tap to the Ankle Lock. Austin reverses a roll-up to pin Jericho. out of frustration, Jericho with a Breakdown to the Rock. Rock with a Stunner to Steve Austin, but Nick Patrick pulls Hebner out of the ring before the 3 count. Austin with a Rock Bottom to Rocky, but he's able to kick out. Angle runs out and clocks Austin with the WWF title belt. Rock Bottom to Austin, and the WCW/ECW Alliance is finished. solid if underwhelming show. the winner of the battle royal practically gave away the result of the main event. tajiri was soundly beaten by Regal. again. i don't understand what they're going for with that feud. i pretty much hate that the fate of WCW & ECW was down to 1 ECW guy, 1 WCW guy, and three WWF guys. i don't know if anyone came out of this show stronger than they went in. that can't be a good sign. interesting that the final nail in the WCW coffin would happen at Greensboro, an NWA town through-and-through, and the site of the very first Starrcade 18 years prior. How's this for insanity: Starrcade '83 is as far from Survivor Series '01 as we now in 2018.
twiztor
and with that, my Monday Night Wars viewing comes to an end. i have watched every WCW program since the first Nitro and every WWF program since SummerSlam '96, meaningless weekend shows and all. I have positive memories of the InVasion storyline. I'm probably repeating some of this from my first post, but it was my last grasp of holding onto friendships and routines after high school. I rooted hard for the Alliance and remember feeling like every match meant something. With this rewatch, i have the complete opposite opinion. Everything was rushed. The commentary, which i remember being a highlight, had its moments but all to often devolved into JR and Heyman arguing and detracting from the matches. Speaking of, almost every match from Raw and SD! only goes 3-4 minutes. It's really hard to get invested in 17 year old matches that only go a couple minutes and, all too often, have some sort of cheating or swerve thrown in. I am glad that i completed this personal challenge, but good lord did i get burned out once Thunder and SmackDown and all the other random stuff started happening. how i did it in '99-'00 i'll never know. it was fun, but i sure won't be tackling a project like this again any time soon. i've been complaining about the lack of WCW guys on the main shows. That complaint stands, but i guess Rhyno and Kanyon are both out injured. I don't think that was ever acknowledged on TV, but i may have just missed it. On the B Shows, WCW & ECW guys were just randomly thrown together as tag teams. Justin Credible and Tommy Dreamer have each had 5 different tag partners since this whole thing began! DDP scores ZERO pinfall or submission victories since his debut. To be fair, Kanyon tagged with him for a couple weeks and got one or two, but for a former WCW champion and arguably the biggest 'name' they brought in, ZERO real wins? Booker T is an afterthought in every segment or feud he's in. they did him absolutely no favors. not once did i think they were about to start making him seem like a big deal, or main eventer, or an actual challenge for anybody. happy to answer any questions if someone has a fuzzy memory or wants clarification on something. i don't know why you would, but you never know.
