SirFozzie
No vidya game news today (I may put up another post later), but the good, the bad, and the ugly of a trip to the local theater to see Star Wars Episode VII. Don't worry for two reasons.. 1) I won't spoil it for any of you if you haven't seen it yet (but do so asap), and the bad and ugly refer to the "hilarity" that is Fozzie on an icy surface. https://www.an8bitmind.com/index.php/2015/12/29/so-i-saw-star-wars-episode-vii-last-night/
SirFozzie
A popular X-com mod team’s creators form their own studio, Splatoon reaches the end of DLC but still will get balance updates, Far Cry Primal gets.. uncomfortable (but somehow avoids the AO rating of doom), and Mass Effect:Andromeda news.. https://www.an8bitmind.com/index.php/2015/12/30/pre-twitch-stream-wednesday-news-update/
SirFozzie
Don't forget, tonight at 8 PM is the six hour 8 Bit Mind twitch stream. I'll be playing Hard West (XCom/Jagged Alliance style game set in the Old West with supernatural elements), and other games tonight!
SirFozzie
We are Live! A 6 hour (at least) Stream, featuring Hard West and more! http://twitch.tv/sirfozzie
AxB
That first (tutorial?) level of Hard West was pretty intense. I bet the rest of the game is a nightmare (not posting this in stream chat because it wants you to sign in using facebook, and fuck facebook). Is that what XCom plays like? Is that why Fresh went nuts, because we all kept dying on him?
SirFozzie
Yeah, that's pretty rough. I don't think there was anyway to prevent from being shot repeatedly. XCom is less stealth, but yeah, plenty of bang bang.
AxB
So are you recording this stream to edit it down to a youtube video, or is it watch live or miss it forever?
SirFozzie
watch live right now, I'm going to be looking into stream options for future ones. (Normally, I play music while I do stuff, but that would get my recordings muted on copyright grounds)
SirFozzie
Cut it a bit short, as having problems connecting to twitch, but I will do it again next week.. hopefully can get some of the DVDVR crew playing Rocket League with me! SirFozzie
I won't link the post here this time, but I have a number of things that are going up in the next week: A series of posts chronicling the history of Star Wars games, all the way from the 1983 arcade game, to the recent release of Star Wars Battlefront. (I expect this to be several posts, there are a LOT of Star Wars games to cover) Keeping with the Star Wars theme, we will have our first “Blast from the Past” review, BioWare’s Knights of the Old Republic! As a special bonus, we will have a truly OLD SCHOOL Blast from the Past, a retrospective of 80’s game designer Strategic Simulations, Incorporated (SSI), a company I spent about 1,000,000 hours playing their games growing up. (Sword of Aragon, AD&D Gold Box Series, Roadwar 2000, the list goes on and on) A review of Hard West (those of you who were on for the Twitch stream got to watch, and there was much death.. especially at the beginning where I had trouble figuring out how to set up ambushes in setup mode) As well as the second Twitch stream. Oh, and a quick note: I have set up a Patreon account if folks want to support an8bitmind.com, we have goals including upgrading my internet connection for better streaming ability. https://www.patreon.com/SirFozzie?ty=h

SirFozzie
Part one of the Star Wars video games retrospective is up. Do you know how hard it was to find some of these games? And yet, I want to play a lot of them (ok, not Jedi Arena. Seriously, if you showed me a screenshot and said it was one of those poorly made porn games for the Atari 2600, I would have believed you.) https://www.an8bitmind.com/index.php/2016/01/06/a-star-wars-video-game-retrospective-part-one-the-early-years/
SirFozzie
Study indicating nearly 40 million VR Users by the end of 2016? Don't believe the hype, but I don't need to, to understand why they're calling 2016 the Year of VR. SirFozzie
Just a heads up, I'm going to start my stream at 7, not 8 tonight. And for the first time, I'll be using Twitch's archival feature, so, if you miss the insanity you'll be able to watch it later.
