    HOMELAND

Oh man, how did I forget the hilarity of El NiƱo, on top of everything else, making it a point to tell Brody, "Stay away from my daughter!" Maybe next episode pedo-doctor will warn Brody, "HER FATHER IS THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY!"
  2. Sweet Lord, what kind of super virus do they have on their hands at the prison? Kid went from basically fine to fucking dead in a DAY.

    HOMELAND

It was an improvement over the first two episodes, and there were definitely interesting thematic parallels at play between Brody and Carrie's stories. The Tower of David set was both incredibly realized and also a very fitting backdrop to a story about systemic imprisonment. And, geez, the creepy pedophile doctor was a fantastic character, just the sort of incredibly specific, wonderfully weird character you NEVER see on this show. That said, it was still kinda boring. Again, its like they've completely forgotten how to create a suspense sequence. Brody's escape to the mosque had all the drama of a trip to the mailbox.
  4. This has to be one of the most inept overtimes I've ever seen. Edit: Yeah. Exactly what you said.
  5. Washington is trying their hardest to make this a game in spite of horrible officiating in Oregon's favor.
  6. Man, these PAC-12 refs are so in the bag for Oregon.
  7. Florida just doesn't have the ability to create the explosive plays that it takes to beat LSU. Oh well.
  8. Wow. 3 straight plays on the goal line, 3 replay reviews in Oregon/Washington. Two reversals. Wild.
  9. Alright, Ima be a Gator today, I guess. It would be a great help to Bama if Florida could hang a second conference loss on LSU.
  10. I really hate this new boring Missouri offense.
  11. Oklahoma just Dareused Texas.

The CBS shows are summer shows, the rest are "in season." Although the "in season" and "out of season" designations are going the way of the dinosaur, too. Just another way cable is changing the game.
  13. I feel bad for Murray. He was all set to make one last run at a championship, but literally every other good player they have had gotten hurt.
  14. Texas up 17-7 on OU early, much to the chagrin of Texas fans.
  15. I love that we've reached the point where "Clowney didn't ride the team bus to the stadium" sounds believable enough that Gameday would run with it.
  16. Well, Arkansas can't pass, so there's that. CLOWNEYWATCH in t-minus 30 minutes.
  17. KIFFIN is live on the set of GameDay right now.

Already happening. Just to bring it over from the other thread, here's the rundown of shows off the top of my head... FOX: The Following (15 episodes), Sleepy Hollow (13) , 24 (12). NBC: Hannibal (13). CBS: Under The Dome (13). ABC: Hostages (15). They should probably also get credit for being ahead of the curve when they moved LOST to short seasons after season 3. We will speak not of the last season for obvious reasons, but I think everyone agrees that the shorter 4th and 5th seasons were tremendous improvements over the 2nd and 3rd. I'm probably forgetting at least one or two more. I think EXTANT (I think that's what it's called) that's set for CBS next summer is also a short season. Of course, the common theme between all these shows is that they are all, too varying degrees, heavily serialized, high concept and/or genre shows. I think there will always be room on the schedule for crime procedurals that run 20+ episodes (Lord knows CBS won't part with it's acronym shows easily), and I don't think season-length really has much of an effect on half-hour comedies, but we are inevitably moving toward anything that doesn't fit into those categories being short-ordered, for a variety of reasons.

I think they should lean into the comedy a bit more in season 2. For one thing, the comedy helps the camp factor go down easier because it lets you know the show is in on it. For another, the show was unexpectedly legitimately funny when it wanted to be. Even Vic became a tolerable character once he became a joke and you knew he was liable to get his ass kicked any time he showed up. When Paul catches Felix following him in the club, and Fe deadpans, "I thought you wanted a blowjob," I died.
  20. Jerry Kill has gone on leave of absence to deal with his health issues. He has probably coached his last game at Minnesota. Or at the major conference level, for that matter.
  21. I don't think anybody is surprised by the number, but it is too many for a show like this. I think the last 10-15 years of television have proven fairly conclusively that, when it comes to heavily serialized shows with unique mythologies, shorter seasons are better. It's taking a while for this idea to bleed over to the networks, but it's happening and will be the norm sooner than later. FOX is leading the way - they're already doing 15-episode seasons of THE FOLLOWING and seem to be setting up SLEEPY HOLLOW for 13-episode seasons, not to mention the upcoming shorter season of 24 that will probably lead to more if it's a hit. NBC has gotten into the act, too, with HANNIBAL getting 13-episode runs. SHIELD seems like a no-brianer for a shorter order of 15 or so episodes, and I imagine it will eventually turn into that in future seasons if the ratings keep dipping.
  22. Ratings were down again, but the drop wasn't as steep. Around 700,000. So it looks like it's going to level off between 7 and 8 million for the time being, which should be alright.
