  1. Yeah - I didn't really mean Hogan as a cutoff point necessarily. I just wanted to use someone as an example where you could point to him and say "yes, he's a hall of famer, no doubt about it" Sting is a guy that is arguable even if you are massive fan of his. I wouldn't point to him and say "he HAS to be in" See, in part.. one of my issues is that I feel he's more deserving than Tanahashi and Angle. I think it's unfair that Sting is on the outside while an ace from NJPW who is only now seeing success as a draw got in and Angle.. who I don't even know how you can call a draw when he was never an ace and after like 2003 was not a very good wrestler is also in.
  2. Jraq, it's been a huge topic of conversation especially in the last week but even before that.. This board, other sites, podcasts, there is a ton of "hijacking" discussion going on. Really, it probably started the RAW after Bryan lost in 18 seconds. It's not like I created it.
  3. Can you stop adding lines to your post every few minutes? Who cares if I lumped in this Chicago crowd with past Chicago crowds? It's like when a sports writer says "Philly fans are assholes, they booed Santa Claus" Really? I think that was maybe 20 years ago.. Maybe more. It's probably not the same people. At least when I do it there's a possibility that some of the people in the crowd are the same people who were at Extreme Rules 2012 or MITB 2011, etc. It's not that serious. Move on.
  4. Optimus Prime vs Grimlock has me intrigued. The Transformers trailers always get me excited and then..
  5. It's been about a week and it is two threads. The monthly general discussion thread where I haven't discussed chants/hijacking, etc. in a couple of days and this thread where my first post was actually about how much I enjoyed the show. Jraq... you are not even stating an opinion in these posts. You are typing in all caps and complaining about me. If I've angered you so much, why don't you type out your own opinion.. or you can just put me on ignore if you feel so strongly about it. It makes no difference to me.
  6. He's not right about everything but he's pretty spot on about some of these live audience reactions so if I agree with him then I agree with him. You are just following me around at this point and I get that you are... I guess from Chicago or the Chicago era based on all of your sports teams being from Chicago... so it's not difficult to see what's going on here. If you have something to add to one of these discussions, please do.
  7. If the Bushwackers were draws in certain territories that's fine but what we're discussing with Sting is a guy who was on top of WCW in the #1 face position when they were the #1 wrestling organization in the United States....probably the world... through '96-'98. Where the argument comes to a standstill is whether you believe Sting was one of the primary reasons for WCW's ongoing success and if that period of time is enough to offset his inability to draw at a consistent rate throughout his early 90's run. There are a lot of factors..booking, management, etc... Some will say Sting deserves the benefit of the doubt because behind the scenes it was a shit show. Also, even though I dislike the comparisons, it is difficult to ignore others who have been inducted whom Sting is probably equal or more deserving than. That's where we are... I'll say this, I don't necessarily think Sting is a slam dunk but that's because if I was voting, I'd only want the Hulk Hogans of the world to be inducted...in a perfect world.. I feel the same about all hall of fames. Baseball: Give me Ruth, Williams, Mays, etc... I can live without Blyleven and Rice.
  8. What FSW is getting at is the crowd in Chicago prides itself on being "aware" and they preach that they want good wrestling. Sheamus/Christian is good wrestling. So when Sheamus/Christian gets shit on it goes against everything they are supposed to stand for.
  9. Man, I can't believe there are people who didn't enjoy that Sheamus/Big Show series or even the Sheamus/Barrett TV matches. I hate his promos but his ring work is awesome.
  10. Outside of the Heyman promo where he masterfully segued into Lesnar/Undertaker everything else on the show was probably going to happen anywhere else in the states. The Shield and Wyatts were going to have a rematch off their great match at Elimination Chamber. Outlaws/Usos have been feuding for weeks. Fandango/Summer/Emma/Santino, same thing. Christian/Sheamus, same thing. A Cena promo with the Wyatts. Daniel Bryan and HHH build to close the show. It was a great RAW but I'm not seeing the raucous crowd link outside of the opening promo. The fans did not impact the booking at all.
  11. What has been edited out on King of the Ring '93? I started watching it and it is like 2 hours 40+ minutes. That sounds about right...
  12. Well then maybe they should contact Punk and ask HIM why HE quit. Ask him why he hasn't been on Twitter or bothered to send out a tweet that "hey guys, I'm gone, don't expect me there" No, it's somehow WWE's fault. I'm not saying people here are acting this way.. but things like the Chicago RAW Twitter were strange to say the least. I'm just glad it's over. Punk will return when he's ready.
  13. Hard to say he wasn't instrumental when he was the top face in a program that was majorly successful. Of course nWo still would have been hot... but not as long. Sting helped keep the story moving in a compelling direction.
  14. Sting was the top face in the top feud.. you can try to minimize his impact all you want but it was important... NJPW is not as big as WCW was then.
  15. Actually, yeah.. I didn't feel like the crowd was too awful except during that Christian match. They were awesome during most everything else and hopefully they got all the punk crap out of their system. Heyman is so legendary. Talk about clutch promos..
  16. Tanahashi is not even close to being the best worker in the world. He's nit even the best worker in his own promotion. Plus, being a draw for New Japan in a lot of ways is a huge so what... yeah, they have started to turn things around so give him some credit there but WCW from '96-'98 was massively popular.. more so than NJPW is now. Sting was the top face.. Also, umm.. is Kurt Angle really in? Why? He was a good worker in the early 2000s but that's it and he was never the Guy in WWE.
  17. Kaptain kayfabe hit the nail on the head. Its time for that portion of the audience to move on. Jae was also right.. if punk cared enough he would have just sent out a tweet saying no I wont be there and saved his fans time and energy but in truth he's probably sitting in his house reading comics or mma play fighting with the Gracies. He left. His choice. He'll come back one day...WWE tried, its on him. The machine will keep going.
  18. Rusev's theme is boss and his manager from Rocky IV is insanely hot. Why isn't Hogan vs. Rusev our WMXXX main event?
  19. Outstanding show tonight. -Heyman was legendary. Holding the mic out there dangling like "alright, go ahead.. no..louder... you can do it" and cut an amazing promo. Only Heyman could have done that and then he still manages to work it all the way back to Undertaker vs. Lesnar. Great stuff. -Usos finally won the belts. -Shield/Wyatts was awesome once again. Not as good as their PPV match but still very good and I love the story they are telling with The Shield. -Bryan/HHH is receiving a proper build... Bryan was the man out there until the numbers caught up to him. Anyone shitting on the show... I don't know what else you want.. Great stuff.
  20. I'm sad that Matt hasn't enjoyed RAW lately. It's been fucking great for weeks with MOTYCs all over the place.
  21. Oh yes, that's a good point but I'm unsure if there are even figures available because WCW merchandise and toys were sold up here and elsewhere while I was growing up and a lot of my friends did own the action figures, etc. Also, WCW Saturday Night was weekly viewing but hell if I could find an actual show to attend. I'm not saying this would make a real difference in Sting's candidacy, just an interesting observation..
  22. Yeah - for me, I dislike using arguments such as wrestler x is in so why not Sting.. but even in hall of fames such as the baseball hall of fame (which lord knows they have their own issues), that is very much a deciding factor for some people. They will look at Bert Blyleven or Jim Rice and measure their numbers against the current candidates and decide based on that very type of analysis. I think it kind of waters down the hall because now instead of one or two people sneaking in you end up with many more than that.. Unfortunately, I think the WON HOF is already watered down to a degree so when I look at Sting and his peak run for drawing power which we agree is '96-'98.. I believe it's more than enough to warrant induction. Being a top star in that era should probably weigh more than being a top star over a less popular time period.
  23. It's difficult to argue with Dylan's numbers and I'm glad he posted them so everyone could see. I just think he was such a big star through WCW's run on top that it offsets a lot of the dismal attendance numbers in the early 90's. I really do think it had more to do with WCW management than Sting. I mean, Flair vs. Steamboat was an absolute classic wrestling rivalry but even they did poor numbers in the Superdome right? I don't remember the figures but it wasn't good.. I think if you bring TNA into the argument it helps Sting in a weird way because TNA gained more viewers and notoriety when they brought Sting in and even his final match in the company during what most people would call the lowest TNA has been on the wrestling radar.. the taped show still drew more viewers than any show they had done in weeks. If there are people willing to watch a completely over-the-hill Sting on a taped show in a terrible promotion... how many more people would be wanting to see him have a run in WWE? Case in point, Hulk Hogan's star power dwindled in that promotion but as soon as he goes back to WWE.. it's all over the news and it looks like the opening hour numbers for RAW were pretty good. Final note, I think my other issue is that there are guys already inducted who were less of a draw than Sting. Wrestlers who never had a '96-'98 hot streak where ratings were off the charts and attendance numbers were good. Two wrongs don't make a right and I get that.. but as said, I think he's done enough to warrant induction.
