  1. After months of stomach pains and fatigue, my wife had a CT scan last week. The result showed "something" on her adrenal glands, enough to warrant a follow-up PET scan. Doing some research, we learned that colon cancer like she had usually returns in the form of cancer on..... the adrenal gland. With that in mind, we met with her oncologist this morning to get the PET scan results. And, as you probably guessed because of where I'm posting this, the test came back clean. NO CANCER. Such awesome news. She still has to see a G-I doctor to get her stomach looked at but we at least know it's not cancer!
  2. What we heard in the first game and all preseason is that the Eagles would play really fast and score a lot of points by playing really fast. The reality is that they aren't doing either one (99 points through 4 games - just 20.9 per game since the first half of the opening game). They're leading the league in rushing (199 a game!) but doing nothing with it. So what it seems to me is that they have big issues on both sides of the ball.
  3. I don't think it's a coincidence that the NFL rushed to settle the lawsuit against them from former players prior to the publication of that book. Too many smoking guns in there.
  4. Just get Netflix streaming and watch Jed Bartlett in glorious HD there
  5. Hey look, somebody took my scan of Havoc '90 from my Cover Scan Museum and put it on Wikipedia. Awesome!
  6. For the love of God, Southland. The season ends on a major cliffhanger involving the main character and.....the series gets canceled. SCREW YOU, TNT. I was going to mention Models, Inc - yeah, I watched it when it was on, shoot me - but then I found out that they actually filmed a finale for it and showed it on E! during reruns. ALF didn't get one in its original run but they did a movie to tie things up later.
  7. Another night, another Netflix movie: Fightville - Yet another in a long line of "behind the scenes" MMA documentaries. This one tracks guys in Louisiana, most specifically Dustin Poirier and promoter Gil Guillory. Documentary actually is very good and pretty much all of the guys coming out looking like pretty decent guys. I knew nothing about any of the people involved beforehand and know only what I learned watching the doc but ended up liking them all. Some good moments, like one of the gyms using guys to pound on fighters who don't show up for their training regularly, including one time where Poirier beats up on a friend. The friend takes his licks like a pro and understands he was simply being taught a lesson. Good stuff. Anyway, I recommend this one pretty highly - 8.5/10. Just got an e-mail saying that season 9 of The Office is now on Netflix. Looks like I'll be watching that now!
  8. So the lead designer of the original NBA Jam game is from Bay City, MI (my wife's hometown!) and may have had a bit of a bias when designing the game. And that leads us to this awesome story: NBA Jam was rigged against the Bulls
  9. Sounds good, I'll have to add it to my Wish List. If you enjoyed that book, have you tried 59 in '84 about Hoss Radbourn's incredible 1884 season? If not, I can't recommend it highly enough! As for me, I just finished The System, by John Benedict and Armen Keteyian. It's a series of chapters/essays on various aspects of college football, mostly bad, some good. There's a wealth of great information and this is truly a must-read. I've just started The Godfather of Poker by Doyle Brunson. Am only 50 pages in, so far, so good. I have a sneaking suspicion it'll be like Amarillo Slim's autobiography and come up wanting in terms of truthfulness.
  10. IGN has started a 5-part series on the History of Naughty Dog. Here's part 1 of their story on one of the best developers on the planet: http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/09/27/the-history-of-naughty-dog-part-i-1982-1994
  11. Anybody else watching Netflix on their PS3? Since the introduction of "My List", I've run into an issue where, if I watch an item that's on "My List" and then remove it, my entire list goes blank. If I exit and come back into Netflix, the list reappears but this is still pretty annoying. Anybody else?
  12. Per Brian Billick regarding that up-tempo Eagles offense: Digging further, if we take out the 53 they ran in the first half against Washington in Week 1, they're averaging 61 plays per game. So, uh, yeah.
  13. Yeah, that all kinda ties in with the "it wasn't 1994" theme. It's no coincidence that what we saw in Montreal is exactly what we're seeing in Florida.
  14. This week's update for the US: Free - Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning - The game that made Curt Schilling go broke while stealing a pile of money from Rhode Island. Get the last laugh now by playing it for free! I've heard this is actually good and will check it out. Discounts - Flashback HD (PS3) - $8. Heard this sucks which is unfortunate. The original is a classic that I somehow didn't like. - Several game show games - Darksiders II - a couple different packages - MX vs ATV - Red Faction Armageddon
  15. It's a myth that 1994 killed the Expos. They were 11th in attendance in 1994 and improved to 10th in 1995 - with a last place team. They dropped back to the 11th in 1996. What killed the Expos is that they got rid of all their good players and stopped even trying to be competitive. The fans knew that there was no reason to support them because their guys would be gone soon after or the owners would gut the team. Who can blame them? Andres Galarragga, Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez, Larry Walker, and a host of others all left with not much coming back the other way.
  16. Sorry, Selig gets the blame for '94. First of all, he became commissioner in 1992. The strike and lost World Series took place in August of 1994 - 2 years later. And why was the situation so bad in 1994? Because the owners had colluded to screw the players and ended up having to pay a $280 million judgment to the players. And who was behind the collusion? Bud Selig.
  17. USC has no chance of landing Saban. USC isn't nearly as good a job as the school or its fans think it is. The area it's in is bad, the stadium is bad, and the facilities are cramped and not that great. And, oh yeah, they're short on talent and scholarships. Remember, the only time they have been good in the last 20 years was when they were cheating like crazy.
  18. The '85 Series doesn't even rank in the top 20 comebacks.
  19. Jeebus that controller is awful. Has nobody learned that recessed controls are never good?
  20. That's how I feel about Ducktales and Castle of Illusion. That's also how I felt about The Walking Dead and a couple other games - and I've been right so far.
  21. The October free games for the US have been announced: Sine Mora (Vita) Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning (PS3) Poker Night 2 (PS3) Hotline Miami (PS3/Vita) Shadow of the Colossus (PS3) Shadow of the Colossus is hardly a shock after we got ICO this month. I'll give all of the PS3 titles a shot, I think, though Hotline Miami doesn't look all that hot. Great reviews, though, so we'll see.
  22. An experience like that would pretty much complete my life. Won't ever happen cuz I won't do any ocean kayaking but, yeah, you get the idea.
  23. Tabe watches more Netflix: Witness - Remember when Kelly McGillis was scorching hot? When she was scorching hot even when wearing Amish clothing? Yeah, this is that movie. Kelly plays an Amish mother whose son, Samuel, witnesses a murder in a bus station bathroom. Harrison Ford plays the detective investigating. He quickly learns that the murder was perpetrated by dirty cops who then seek to murder him so he hides out on Kelly's family farm. Ford must adopt Amish clothes and ways to fit in and so he does. Romance sort of blooms and then we get the big finale. The movie is excellent with the relationship between Ford and McGillis portrayed in a quiet, understated way in which glances and words take on extra meaning. I do have some complaints, seeing McGillis topless not being one of them, mostly centered around the little boy. Early in the movie he's portrayed as borderline retarded or just stupid instead of just unfamiliar with "English" ways. When asked to describe the killer, he isn't traumatized yet is unable to find such hard words as "short" or "black" or "tall". The kid is bilingual, clearly supposed to be bright, and yet in that conversation he's treated as stupid because he's Amish. Anyway, really good movie and great way to spend 2 hours. 8/10.
  24. Eh, if that hadn't gone to penalty kicks, I'd consider it. But alas, it did. So I present to you this one - a great comeback.....with a twist. And you absolutely MUST listen to the audio with it:
