  1. I think Raw is bad and just watched RINGS instead when I realised he was gonna close the show but I stayed awake until 6AM for DB's thing and I don't regret it for a second. A great wrestler, a great human being, and if you didn't cry screw you.
  2. Well to be fair - he is one of like 3 guys who has been healthy for the entire 5 weeks of the year so far Let's be real here we aren't missing a great Randy Orton run.
  3. Kalisto-Owens was a great TV match. Kalisto's had a better 2016 than anyone else in WWE, too late to make a serious play for March Madness but they may have found the great TV worker they've been missing ever since Rey left.
  4. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dln5oIGw5q0 just trust me and watch this one
  5. I know early Henry gets shit on but I liked him a lot as a guy that just did slams and splashes. Terry Funk was the best worker in 1998 WWF.
  6. Late to the party but the best part of March Madness is def. folks voting WWE wrestlers over everyone after bitching about WWE for the whole year.
  7. Nominating: Jun Akiyama vs Jake Lee-AJPW (1/3) Akiyama beating on a rookie is always fun and that's what we get here. Akiyama carried the match nicely, giving Lee enough shine and spotlight to make him look good (which Lee took advantage of with some pretty offence, his kicks looked very good) but viciously cutting him off before he could get lost in a control segment. Finishing stretch is really interesting in that it doesn't feature many big moves but a lot of them are believable nearfalls because of the difference in the pecking order. Bonus points for Akiyama busting out a vicious strike I don't remember him ever doing before.
  8. Hideki Suzuki vs. Masato Tanaka (1/1)-YES Great match, easily one of my favourite this year has produced so far. I liked the matwork a lot as well as all the strike exchanges, loved how Suzuki made Tanaka fight for every transition instead of just getting all his spots in. Suzuki's matches being meaningfully suppressed added a lot to the nearfalls and they didn't go overboard with them. Suzuki's Billy Robinson throwback gimmick rules.
  9. I'd take the easy way out Talking Heads: 77 More Songs About Buildings And Food Fear of Music Remain In Light Speaking In Tongues
  10. It's funny to me that Cornette uses those arguments to attack Lucha Underground because that's largely how I feel about the era he is so fond of. I love 50s/60s american pro wrestlng. I love the atmosphere, I love the setting, I love the style. Pat O'Connor demonstrating holds on an announcer and explaining what damage they cause is my favourite thing. The 80s stuff is something that just doesn't really connect with me, and the stuff that does doesn't have ANYTHING to do with sports build (Terry Funk throwing chairs, Memphis angles etc.). It's an obvious cry for attention, but alas, people still care about him. Pro wrestling is a fucking work. It still rules though. -Roland Barthes, 1957 Do wish this thread was free of strolling though. The idea WWE doesn't jump at the slightest sign they might potentially have competition in some form, no matter how minor, is as ridiculous as thinking Triple H was good in 2003.
  11. First 65 episodes of Kinnikuman are subbed.

    2016 Yes/No NJPW

Nominating: Jushin Liger vs Virus (1/24) Really neat maestros match and a good use of your time if you're up for a couple of minutes of wacky holds and reversals. Dragon Lee vs Kamaitachi (1/24) What is there even left to say. I'm voting Dragon Lee over everyone come March Madness and so should you. I was impressed by their ability to combine Kamaitachi's new offence he'd debuted in the Maximo match and just generally continue the theme of them constantly finding new ways to one up each other while simultaneously providing a completely accessible match. Still it is the festival of insanity you'd hope for and probably provided cubsfan with about two hundred GIFS.
  13. veoh and rutube see: www.voicesofwrestling.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=236
  14. Nominating: Yoshiaki Fujiwara vs. Atsushi Aoki-AJPW (1/3) This was wrestled under "HARD HIT Graplling Rules". I enjoyed the opening, I think it established well that Aoki coud be a threat to Fujiwara despite him not matching him in matwork skill due to his advantage in speed and just generally not being 66 years old. Then Fujiwara starts trolling Aoki and the match completely disintegrates (in the sense of them following the rules) and they just start headbutting the shit out of each other. Then they decide that wasn't ridiculous enough and start shoot headbutting the ringpost and just doing whatever the hell comes to their minds. Once they've filled enough time with bizarre stuff to ensure Fujiwara wouldn't get blown up they go back to doing neat matwork and the match with a really well set up submission. Not something that I'd recommend to someone not familiar with either for them but it's great fanservice if you're a fan already.

    2016 Yes/No NJPW

Nominating: Dragon Lee vs Virus (1.23.) An amazing sprint, not sure I can think of a better lightning match. Very accessible and easy to get into even for non-lucha fans due to it being all action and the nature of the match gave the nearfalls even more urgency and credibility, especially if you're familiar with both guy's offence. The chain wrestling opening bit was short but really well done, loved Virus' flash submissions and they more than delivered on the highspots.
  16. I would like Devitt and his boys a lot more if they constantly referenced Fire Of Love.
  17. They had to rebuild the company around Tanahashi and Nakamura so pushing them properly and hard came first. Mutoh got a title reign because he's Mutoh. They brought in Kojima when he was All Japan's top guy so they gave him the belt when he came in before using him to put over Tanahashi. Makabe is/was New Japan's biggest crossover star and got insanely over. They were dead set on pushing Okada once he came back from an excursion. AJ was set free from TNA and they went all in with him. If Mutoh wasn't willing to come in, Kojima didn't quit All Japan and AJ stayed in TNA then Goto would've probably had a title reign by now. Though it should be noted that in the past couple of years they have been way more interested in pushing Naito and Devitt (jhad he not left).
  18. Misawa had like a seven year build and a high profile singles match as Tiger Mask II vs Jumbo before beating him. Okada just came back from an excursion and won the title out of nowhere. Misawa vs Jumbo also never got a proper finish due to Jumbo's illness.
  19. You must've watched a different match than me then. Pretty much everyone New Japan decided to push above him was a better and smarter choice.
  20. You gotta keep up man. It's all about Veoh now and he'll also post links to new shows on the VOW forum.
  21. As I've mentioned in the other thread-Kevin gave me the ok so I started the puro MOTY threads for 2016. Firstly-I'd implore everyone who watched WK and loved it to nominate the matches they did in the New Japan thread so we can at least try to revitalize this thing for a bit before everyone forgets about it. Secondly-does anyone remember what time limit Ditch used for the "shorties" thread?
  22. STARDOM, Sendai Girls, Oz Academy, K-DOJO, Michinoku-Pro, whatever sleazy indy promotions HASEGAWA is working etc. all go here STARDOM Io Shirai vs Kairi Hojo (1/17) || 2 yes || 0 no || = 2 K-DOJO Hiro Tonai vs. Kyu Mogami (2/25) || 1 yes || 0 no || = 1
