  1. turns out that Houston being favored vs KU at Allen Fieldhouse did not help the Cougars much as they lost 78-65 to the Jayhawks and got KU fans chanting "Overrated" at Houston
  2. is it considered irony for Rock to be around a WWE that has build a structure where the brand is the draw and not individual stars, a system they prefer so that certain stars can't easily follow the path of the Rock and bail out for movies. I mean, you don't sell 40,000-50,000 tickets before announcing a main event without it being about the brand. And if people turned their tickets in over a main event, i'd imagine the tickets would be bought by somebody else. Some online people are kinda fighting the last war here.
  3. somehow this idea will end up with Nia Jax being dressed as a biker who still has very nice hair, a change from her previous gimmick as "the monster heel with really nice hair" then again, WWE is the land that hasn't figured out that they could solve the "all the movie sounds the same" thing by just attaching some sort of distinctive open to songs to remind people "hey, it's this person"
  4. I think the same thing happened with Torrie Wilson and Billy Kidman then there's the people who think the WWE was trying to hook up John Cena with Maria Kanellis
  5. on one hand, you'd think wrestlers would be good at thinking on their feet, on the other hand, recent wrestling has had a lot less adlibbing on promos than previous generations there's probably a bit of variety among 80s/90s wrestlers for who would have been good in movies and who wouldn't have.. for example, I don't know if Scott Hall really did any movies, but I'd think if he was in good condition, he would have potential to be good in a bit part at least Stevie Richards might have been good in "the role that we intended to give Eric Roberts but we couldn't afford him". Maybe they'd give Stevie bit parts as a surfer dude first to see if he could acclimate to working movies as a dude hanging out behind Sean Astin or Pauly Shore.
  6. yeah there's a fetish for everybody, if they went towards JNCOs and Hoodies, there'd still be some people getting way too into it
  7. If the trending topics are any indicator, Twitter users are trying to throw some weight around, which since this is X/Twitter in 2024, means they'll fail miserably at winning over the fans who actually go to WWE shows. Considering this is 2024 and the internet isn't actually much of a luxury item, the split really isn't between online/offline fans, but between very online fans and everybody else.
  8. so Bieniemy is either the Raiders OC in 2024 or he's on Deion's staff in Colorado until Deion fires him midseason?
  9. Yeah there's some people online who sorta walk a tightrope between their love of big butts and their distain for not being skinny. But that's a whole other topic for another place probably.
  10. If we could trade some shows from 2014 to 2024 and from 2024 to 2014... I suspect the 2024 crowd would handle 2014 content a lot better than the 2014 crowd would handle 2024 content. It might be hard to gauge how good 2013/14/15 if you factor out crowds, but it wouldn't surprise me if the actual on-screen product hasn't really improved a lot over 10 years. It's possible a lot of the difference is that the crowd turned over post-Thunderdome to become a bunch of people who don't strive to be mad in public. How mad should people really be that Cody, who shoulda known better, is the victim here. Cody's been partly hampered by the fact that the guy who hired him has had his power disappear since 2022 and that the current WWE boss is a guy that Cody spent time talking trash about before returning to the WWE. Like no shit, a de-facto booker change is gonna mess with some guys spots. I mean, he could still fall upwards. But if Cody gets a front office job, I'm guessing that means he's not pushing himself harder because maybe someone at Endeavor will have enough of a brain cell to know "don't let your front office guys put the titles on themselves"
  11. WWE is about to pivot away from conventional ratings for Raw. So live gate numbers/receipts is about to become more relevant for gauging fan interest than it has in years. But once again, until proven otherwise, the fans who are really loud online aren’t as loud in person as they were 10 years ago/etc.
  12. There were a few “why aren’t these hot women dating main eventers” situations in the WWE
  13. Anyways, Jacob Fatu replacing Brock Lesnar in all the “Brock Lesnar does this” storylines would be the rare time that Jacob Fatu would be the less problematic person in a trade off. Like Jacob Fatu just ends up abducting Heyman and making him his manager because he doesn’t understand why people think he’s a maniac. Sorta like if Jacob Fatu was the Tuco Salamanca of the family (you can use this idea if you wanna, Gewirtz)
  14. I think “the timing isn’t right” is a consistent problem for anybody with a felony in regards to their dreams. But I don’t know if the last week has really helped Jacob Fatu’s chances of landing in the WWE. They’re probably gonna have to get their front office situation sorted out before they make a risky hire like a guy who can’t enter Canada. In a world where Jacob Fatu is actually hired, they should roll him out like he’s gonna be another Roman ally. Only for him to attack Roman. Of course this plan is not happening with the current WM matchup. But as I’ve said or joked before. They still haven’t done a Roman face run during all this.
  15. I’m sure that in the world of wrestling racial stereotypes, a Samoan has won a strap match by headbutting all four turnbuckles in succession. More seriously, a Samoan Strap Match sounds like the sort of stip that maybe has never been done but could easily be interesting if both guys were willing to strap each other. (If they’ve done a Samoan Strap Match, I’ve totally forgotten it) For some reason I’ve found bullrope matches to be more consistently interesting than strap matches. So Cody could continue the “second banana” thing by pledging to help the Rock by making sure Solo can’t interfere due to his injuries from a strap match. Before Solo interferes anyways. Or they debut Jacob Fatu despite his rap sheet.
  16. “No take backs” said whoever the Raw authority figure is. Also I’ve read people acting like Cody’s gonna get his title match in Australia when nobody in this country is gonna be watching live. Edit: I assume the scenario where Cody loses in Australia is the one where he works a bull rope match with Solo at WM
  17. Priest cashing in during the match to win the belt would be one way to do Cody/Seth without putting the belt on Cody. Edit: maybe have Cody add a stip that if Seth beats him, Seth gets the future match with Reigns. Note the wording would technically mean that Priest swooping into the match wouldn’t lead to Priest winning a match with Reigns. But all of us would think it did and complain it didn’t.
  18. Thanks for making me laugh coke through my nose in a steakhouse also, this is from @Matt D on Segunda Caida today in regards to Wild Red Berry: A Dr. Smith homage gimmick in wrestling feels like it would both be amusing to a few people and also impossible to coherently pull off. Like would he be sabotaging his allies consistently
  19. Gewirtz only writes about being in the limo with Vince a bunch in the 2000s. So he presumably had to pinky swear that he never saw anything illegal going on. Sorta like the Rock might have to do. But on the (almost*) 65th anniversary of the Day the Music Died. Cody gives up his seat to the Rock. (* the actual anniversary is today the 3rd but it was early on February 3rd so stuff like Waylon Jennings giving up his seat on the plane might as well have happened on February 2nd)
  20. I’m ready to find out “what if Brian Gewirtz didn’t have his ideas filtered through an old man” (it probably won’t actually wind up good)
  21. It would be hilarious if Rock used the reaction to this angle as an opening to get his final revenge on Triple H for 20+ years of H politicking Even with his NXT image rehabilitation, there’s probably enough people who’d believe “HHH made this angle bad to get back at the Rock” as opposed to the angle just not being good. And yet, the words of the pipe bomb promo will hold to be true
  22. 17,264 people in an arena in 2015 vs 46,125 people in a stadium in 2024 Wrestlemania is the WWE Super Bowl and it feels like this is acting like the Super Bowl crowd is gonna be like a regular season crowd in a city. So, the diehard Codymaniacs need to figure out if they want it to rain during the main event or if they want it to be really cold during the main event
  23. It feels like “making it obvious that Cody doesn’t have as much support as 2014 Daniel Bryan” is a strategy with some downsides Because let’s be blunt here. Cody’s fans support really isn’t deep enough to cause an open fan rebellion here.
  24. Cody was pinch-hit for
  25. Wasn’t Heyman the public origin of the “inning” analogy?
