  2. the 6 teams with the largest negative gap between actual record and pythag record in the first half of 2023: Rangers: 59-32 pythag, 52-39 actual Padres: 49-41 pythag, 43-47 actual Cubs: 47-42 pythag, 42-47 actual Royals: 30-61 pythag, 26-65 actual Cardinals: 42-48 pythag, 38-52 actual Twins: 49-42 pythag, 45-46 actual And the 5 largest positive gaps are: Marlins: 45-47 pythag, 53-39 actual Orioles: 49-40 pythag, 54-35 actual Reds: 45-46 pythag, 50-41 actual Brewers: 44-47 pythag, 49-42 actual DBacks: 48-43 pythag, 52-39 actual and to open the second half, the Rangers won, Padres won, Cubs lost, Royals washed out, Cardinals had their game suspended in the 3rd inning, and Twins won by 1 run.. while the Orioles beat the Marlins, Brewers beat the Reds 1-0 and the DBacks lost. Good work by the MLB scriptwriters to put the 4 teams overperforming by the most against each other
  3. The Royals kick off the 2nd half by postponing a game for rain 3 hours before first pitch as a thunderstorm was knocking out power around the area, only for the radar to clear up by first pitch. There'll be a split doubleheader tomorrow. Bumping Shane McClanahan out of this series is worth it in the end. (Also if you're the Rays, you get to start McClanahan vs the Rangers instead of the Royals, which is more relevant to their postseason interests)
  4. then there's Nicolai Volkoff (Steve Gobrukovich) and Nikolai Volkoff (Josip Peruzovic) when one's career was ending around the time that the other's career was starting
  5. the counter to having a tribal curse placed on your team is to bribe another tribe to work on your behalf, like what the Atlanta Braves do (allegedly)
  6. "Chaos in Cleveland as the Guardians gave out solar-powered bobbleheads on opening day, only for the eclipse to throw a wrench into plans"
  7. whatever probability there is that Adrian Adonis partied with Rick James in Buffalo, there's a 100% probability that cocaine would have been involved in said party
  8. I don't know if he ran around but i'm pretty sure he did sit down in the directors chair and puffed on a cigar
  9. Even if Cagematch has more Billie Starkz matches entered than Nick Wayne matches, it also has Nick Wayne working more Game Changer matches than Billie. Not sure if there's any consistent way to quantify which indy workers are working in higher profile spots. Not sure what the average non-wrestling fan reaction would be to "Nick Wayne worked matches before turning 15" compared to "Billie Starkz worked matches before turning 15" or compared to "Billie Starkz worked matches against men before turning 15". Fans are probably way way better about how they treat women's wrestling these days compared to 10/20 years ago but that progress only goes so far.
  10. I was considering the possibility of something bringing up John Cena's debut in regards to Nick Wayne losing in his debut. If that's happen, I haven't seen it (and I think comparing Wayne/Swerve to Cena/Angle in 2002 would not work as an argument) but I did see someone mention Cena/Zayn (Zayn's debut) to Dave, so somebody compared losing to Swerve Strickland in a debut to losing to John Cena in a debut. Also considering how Cena floundered a little before WWE got it right, it's not the best comparison Wrestling probably prefers every new guy have an Elly De La Cruz/Yasiel Puig/Kevin Maas sort of early surge as opposed to the really good pro athletes who did take lumps before becoming the best.
  11. has the Firm been gone for long enough for Grande Guillermo to join the Embassy?
  12. so, who's the gambling favorite to be the first AEW wrestler to violate these rules
  13. during the 3rd Dark Journey appearance on this show, I decided she's gives off some Jennifer Beals vibes. The glory days of wrestling, when any stripper was one chance meeting away from getting into the wrestling industry.
  14. some of you probably already knew this but while watching 1987 World Championship Wrestling, I realized Lex Luger is older than Arn Anderson
  15. on one hand, Dory vs Rotundo might be trying to drive away viewers. On the other hand, we've had multiple Dark Journey appearances in this episode (on checking: she's gone by the end of the month, but Dark Journey's looking pretty good here) Good job by Alan Martin in not dying after JJ Dillon hit the Slingshot Suplex on him
  16. this Dory/Rotundo match has been going on forever (checks) this is going to a time limit draw in 14 minutes.. man, they must have wanted people to go to the Omni for Wargames or go outside for the 4th if they're doing a Dory Funk Jr/Mike Rotunda time limit draw in 1987.
  17. Watching July 1987 World Championship Wrestling and I did not realize that Dory Funk Jr showed back up there post-WWF. Also he looked ancient in 1987 and he's working uberboring Mike Rotundo
  18. Also shoutout to the one Adrian Adonis Buffalo friend who casually said he missed the funeral because he was incarcerated in a federal prison at the time
  19. That’s better than the Wresting Todd Marinovich, which is probably a Von Erich. How many months until they can have him turn heel on Hook? Figure you gotta wait a little bit with Jungle Boy just turning heel on Hook and somehow that feud will go like 7 months until they remember to end it. I’m guessing those reasons are similar to the reasons why Keith Lee’s push evaporated quickly in AEW? Also having the heel turn be in one of the weirdest bad segments possible didn’t help
  20. I could see a No Holds Barred remake where they swap the races of the Rip and Zeus roles and a few of the worst people on the Internet get pissy for a day or so Montez Ford is Rip! Dijak is Zeus!
  21. The ads in the Victory Sports Wrestling Yearbook for 1975 have only the finest advertisements. Like ads for X-Ray Spex and $9.99 Sex Dolls
  22. watching Prime Time Wrestling from 7/11/1988, and Rodger Kent really sounds like Mean Gene (although I think Rodger had more senority in announcing in the AWA, so maybe Gene Okerlund sounds like Rodger Kent). Also there's Frenchy Martin and his "USA Is Not OK" sign, the epitome of subtlety in heel arts.
  23. I suspect that wrestling promotions in general would rather not mention the ages of their workers (because of the surprisingly old guys that are working for them)... which might complicate things for wrestlers who are good and younger than the average age. So you could watch Wayne/Swerve and know that Wayne is 18, but you might not realize that Swerve is 32. Looking at WrestlingData, FWIW, and the average age of wrestlers at Forbidden Door? 37.5. Average age of wrestlers on Dynamite last week? 36.5. Average age of wrestlers on Dynamite this week? 32.9. Obviously that isn't all Nick Wayne (Daniel Garcia's 24, Komander's 24, Skye Blue's 23). So in some sports, it's easier to figure out when a rookie shows up and is instantly one of the best players on the team. Wrestling, isn't quite like that.
