  1. I'm a pretty big fan of Hector. I love the Hector vs Jack Hart match from Florida. i can't find that. Write up from May of Last year (formatting butchered by the PWO board revamp)
  2. It's not on the network but... watch this promo and then this 7 minute match that's the best 7 minute match you'll see all day, and then watch the lumberjack match that follows later in the night (the finish to the first match leads to the finish of the lumberjack match)
  3. I PROMISE you that were I my 18-year old self now, I'd be a Davey Richards fan.
  4. I bet Vic will take up the Beefcake vs Lynn argument.
  5. Having a crowd ride you like that can't be fun. Acknowledge them. Double down on the annoying mannerisms. Piss them off more. Maybe even Screw with them by messing up some rope running. Something like that. But still punish your opponent and win. There's some meta heat there waiting to be snatched.
  6. It's funny because Eva would show a lot of emotion but it was all in the wrong way and at the wrong time and directed to nowhere in particular. She had these expressions at times when she was staged to, and they weren't bad or anything but she could have played against the crowd. Instead it was like the crowd wasn't even there.
  7. I hate Civil War and Ultimates too. The comics really started to shift after that. They moved away from the street level look of the early part of that decade and started to look at things that weren't just spies and ninjas and gangsters. I'm so glad the movies came a couple years later or else they would probably run it up just as bleak and heartless. I don't blame DC. I do kind of blame America though, and along with that, you. Nothing personal.
  8. Things can be serious without losing the sense of wonder. The problem is when they try to make things to real because these stories are not supposed to be real in the first place. They're supposed to be amazing. They are just afraid of losing people who are too jaded for that. You can have three dimensional characters and interesting stories without sucking on the teat of "what would happen in the real world? "
  9. I don't understand where all the words you have come from.
  10. I have real and honest disdain over the tone of the DC movies and the shift from "You will believe a man can fly" to gloom and doom and really with our society that it's taken that to be successful, that it's actually working for the most part. It's tied into how alienated I feel over the new 52 era of DC and feeling like I've lost, quite permanently, something I once was hugely invested in. That said, I don't talk about the movies much because despite my disdain, I have the marvel movies (and comics) to focus on and frankly, I just don't care. I'm not so insecure in my comics fanbase that I feel the need to hide behind the social legitimacy of a blockbuster movie. I'm not going to see BvS in the theater unless the kid really wants to, and he doesn't know that it's coming at all, I don't think. He knows about Ant Man and Avengers 2 and Guardians 2 and cap 3 and the rumors about Doctor Strange. So maybe I'll catch it for a buck on redbox. I haven't seen Spider-MAn 2 yet and I'm in no rush. If you guys hadn't talked up Days of Future Past, I probably wouldn't have seen that. So yeah, I really, really dislike the DC tone and direction and everything I've seen and heard about it. It's not some loyalty thing. I WANT DC movies that I like, but I don't need DC movies at all if what they're doing is against everything I care about the properties. They're sort of dead to me though, so you don't hear nearly as much from me as you do from, let's say, Mike.
  11. From what I've seen, he's way better without it anyway.
  12. Ha, you and your logic... I started writing a post which was basically. "Well, if this happened, then..." and then "But on the other hand, if this happened, and this was just part of..." and at that point I realized how ridiculous this was getting.
  13. This is probably a case where we just don't know nearly enough of the true story.
  14. I wrote that up in december. Goldust (debut) vs Marty Jannetty - In Your House - 10/22/95 Dustin had been on house shows for about a month and a half before this, mainly going up against Bob Holly so this isn't his first time in the gimmick or working heel, but it's definitely early on and the first time on TV/PPV. Marty explodes from the get go causing Goldust to hit the floor and stumble around the ringside area/ramp. It's not the worst idea since it let's the crowd get a look at him without his wig/robe for the first time. Just when Dustin is about to turn around and rush back in Mary nails him with a clothesline which Dustin does his twisting bump for, onto the concrete. Jannetty rolls him in but he slinks right back out and sort of highsteps away. The body language wasn't quite down yet. He stalls around the ring as Jannetty does the chicken dance in the ring. Weird way to debut a character. They do a little chain wrestling, leading to a roll up by Goldust. After the kick out, he's ready with a huge punch. Jannetty comes back with a flurry of their own ending with a Frankensteiner. This keeps on for a bit, spirited stuff with some good strikes and back and forth. It culminates with a huge Dustin clothesline which Jannetty does an even larger flip sell for. Not how I would have started the match if I was debuting him, but it was good action nonetheless. Goldust's control segment is strong for the most part. His offense is well paced and a grounded chinlock works here because Jannetty is good at working from the bottom and keeping it interesting. One thing that's coming out from watching these (as well as endless babyface Dustin matches) is that he's very good at pacing and layering hope spots. At one point Jannetty looks like he's going to clothesline Goldust on the top rope from the apron but actually snapmares him outside instead, which is a crazy spot. The cutoff here is that (apparently signature) Jannetty kidney bump into the post. After a suplex in, Dustin goes back to the chinlock base. Again, at the time, I could see why people might not have liked this element of Dustin's work, but against the right opponent it's tried and true and effective to lead into hope spots. They flub a Jannetty flip over counter to a back body drop, but then he misses a splash into the corner and you'd swear his face goes right into the post. Goldust follows up with a DDT for a two count, but Jannetty comes back with a rocker dropper. Instead of going for the pin he goes for the fist drop off the top. Goldust moves. Jannetty lands on his feet and hits a fun elbow drop on a kneeling Dustin. Three fired up clotheslines later, Jannetty goes for the fist drop again, only to eat a foot. Goldust gives him the thumbs down and a goardbuster for the three. This was definitely good but way too competitive for a debut. Good match, wrong circumstance.
  15. In that case Foley's first title win. I came close to going to that one.
  16. If we're talking matches within our lifetimes? WWF @ Montreal, Quebec - Forum - August 4, 1989 Tim Horner defeated Richard Charland (sub. for Greg Valentine) Dino Bravo pinned Jim Neidhart The Bushwhackers defeated the Powers of Pain via count-out Barry Windham defeated Paul Roma The Ultimate Warrior pinned Andre the Giant in under 1 minute Dusty Rhodes defeated the Big Bossman via disqualification Shawn Michaels & Marty Jannetty defeated Jacques & Raymond Rougeau in a 60-minute Marathon Match, 3-2 in overtime; fall #1: the Rougeaus won; fall #2: the Rougeaus won; fall #3: the Rockers won at the 48 minute mark; fall #4: the Rockers won at the 57 minute mark; fall #5: the Rockers won when Michaels reversed an inside cradle by Raymond, putting Jannetty on top, after Jacques had done the same moments earlier to put Raymond on top They did it in Philly and Chicago too. Philly had Hogan and Savage on top so that might have been better.
  17. Www.midatlanticgateway.com/resourcecenter/gateway_remembers/nov1975greensboro/nov1975_main.htm It'd have to be Something we can't see now. That seemed a good choice.
  18. I'm still sort of a CMLL novice, but from my perspective, this is kind of a godsend for CMLL if they can sign him. They're not exactly known for longterm planning, but I think there has to be some danger of burning the crowd out on Rush unless he's given a strong opponent. To me, the end goal that makes the most sense is building up some younger guy over the next year or two to be the one to finally give him his comeuppance, but in the meantime, they can't keep running La Pesta Negra + Shocker vs Rush/Sombra/Mascara into the ground. I figure they either have to switch him over and make him full out Rudo but sort of an independent group unaffiliated with the other rudos like Perros Del Mal were in 06 or Los Invasores(?) in 2010(?). Then you could put him against anyone and everyone, but they still seem to be using him occasionally with random tecnicos. I think he teamed up with Porky last month. If hey do that sort of Rush vs the world scenario, then you could build to a match against his then-former partners in Maximo and Marco and from a narrative level at least that seems sort of interesting. Maybe even something short against Porky but no matter how over/beloved Porky is, that still feels a little like slumming? If they bring Del Rio in though, they can sort of keep the status quo going for another 6-9 months running various combinations while they build up one of the idolo guys or something. I imagine the crowds will eat up his act. He was fairly over even when he was cruddy back in 06. But I really have no idea what I'm talking about. That's all just what feels right to me. EDIT: For people in the know, what's the deal with Ultimo Guerrero vs Atlantis? Does Atlantis definitely lose the mask? UG has more shelf life at this point since he's nine year's younger. Could he, whether he loses the mask or not, leverage some sort respect thing into a quasi turn so that he can be the next person to be pitted against Rush? I feel like that could take up some amount of time too.
