  1. Did the Steiners and SST ever have a payoff match to this?
  2. I just saw this FB reel where Kurt Angle German Suplexed a wrestler who had Rey Mysterio around the waist, but not like he was going for a German of his own. It sent Rey flying farther than he would have from a regular German. No clue what that’s from but it’s 1 of the coolest spots ever. Kurt Angle is maybe the GOAT innovative spot that doesn’t involve props man.
  3. Scott Hall doing those jobs was what made him a ppv guy other than a filler guy ftw. He did the first job to Sting, the first job to the Steiners, and he lost Hogan’s title to Goldberg so Hogan wouldn’t have to do it himself. And this was all before he started doing jobs as a spoof like when he lost to Hector Garza and co.
  4. I did remember this and was on the fence on whether it counted or not. I thought it made a little more sense than you but I understand your view of it. I didn’t quite count it as an upset because he was still THE FIRST MEMBER OF THE ENNN DUBUYOOO OOO to us at the time. Meanwhile a filler title defense was exactly what they needed coming off of Starrcade, which was coming off as planned at the time of the decision to let Hall win WW3. That gave them that whole month to come up with a long term plan while they merely did nothing in the meantime as people sold out every show and bought that ppv. It was all just that organized and perfect at the time then...well you know.
  5. Another variable is that sometimes Battle Royals didn’t include the top guys. Skyscrapers IIRC.
  6. Also, in Battle Royals anybody could win. They would sell the living f*** out of that to sometimes. Did an upset Battle Royal win ever happen? Does DDP count? Even though they reversed it? It’s probably happened in some Royal Rumble since 2010 or so but I never watched as much WWF.
  7. I figured that wrestling training dialogue was minimal at first, similar to other kinds of training. It might be a goal to be a friend with your peers and superiors in that field, but it sure isn’t the first step in training somebody or being trained. Anyway I came to mention that when i went to YouTube to watch the Nick Patrick video yesterday, I clicked on another match afterwards which is something I almost never do. I only watch matches on YouTube that go to YouTube to watch to start with. To do all the jumping around cheats you out of getting the most out of the match IMO. But that match I watched was Buzz Sawyer vs Tommy Rich from WCWSN. I know Buzz was a trainwreck but he was an amazing talent. It’s as sad that so much of his talent was wasted as it is that he was con artist. This was a good match that I didn’t expect. I think I read a time or 2 that it was some sad postprime Tommy Rich match or something but this was solid. It might haven even beenTommy’s best match since the last time he was really hot years ago.
  8. I just listened. Patrick is dancing around the obvious still like everybody always does. Granted he was asked more about the count that concerned him and his job more than the overall plan and screwjob. And there was also 8:25 that I don’t know if I believe. I believe Eric Bischoff said that to Patrick, but I’m not sure that Sting said that to Eric Bischoff to start with. I bet it was just more damage control. Meanwhile if Sting did say that, well, he wouldn’t have said that if he didn’t give a shit like they keep saying he didn’t.
  9. I forgot about Konan, who I obviously will not judge here now that I’ve been reminded that he also didn’t wrestle. Everybody else though...naw. Raven was pouting a crying like always and Nash actually slipped up in a recent interview. He didn’t say he was faking but he said he ate a whole pan full of weed brownies. We almost had the chance to say so much for the whole weed has never killed anybody thing I guess. I can’t wait to hear the Nick Patrick video. Thanks for posting it. I’ll have to catch it later. I bet I listen to the whole thing and still feel mad though. Nobody ever straight blames Hogan. They talk Hogan and they include Hogan and they just dance around him. The 1 exception is Eric Bischoff coming clean in the post here a while back but I’ve still only heard the clip. The whole interview might be the same old crap.
  10. Total shit card, but only after something like 18 people backed out of doing business that day and Eric went ahead and made 1 do it. And ROFL at his explanation over the years about making that person an example. Yeah he made Dean Malenko go out and work. That’ll show everybody and they’ll never pull that stunt again. Nash/Giant and Larry/Eric were 2 more matches that people really freaking wanted to see. Meanwhile the rest of it was still ok. Before it all hit the fan Starrcade 97 had a Wrestlemania 5 vibe. There was the main event, a couple other heated matches and the rest of it was just kind of like a party that built the last little building towards it. Then fart noise.
  11. Then when it come time for a payoff to all of that, which would have paid off..............duuuur ok daddy I’ll do it your way and you won’t have to lose. Hey since I’m a good boy can we do it again tomorrow night? You won’t lose then either I promise.
  12. I heard myself yesterday on Hair Nation Sirius XM doing a promo. That’s right. I did a promo lol! They kept running their own promos about how we should send our own in and I did. I had forgot about doing it so I wasn’t sure what was going on at first which was Twilight Zone enough for me.
  13. Other than the occasional “shut up” it was normal for even the meanest heel to be respectful of the interviewer. That’s 1 of the little things that made our wrestling so great. I don’t know why, how, or anything about it but I know it just did. Now am I mixed up or was there some very politically incorrect promo that Sheiky did some time in the indies, that was infamous for a minute after his Brian Blair rant? It appeared on a dollar DVD bin DVD. It might have even been the first one because I for sure remember an OMG WRESTLING DEBUTS IN THE DOLLAR DVD BIN!!!! thread back in the day.
  14. Man he was just great. I like how many times in his promos, he would get all wound up talking so fast and just before he got to where you couldn’t understand him, the announcer would interrupt and say in 1 line what a wound up Sheik was trying to say. That’s where any other heel would tell whoever interrupted to shut up. Sheik would regain his enunciation ability and say EXACTLY THANK YOU! He did the same thing in his shoots.
  15. I just heard about Sheiky Baby. He had an amazing life from the start. He sure made the most out of it. I haven’t seen any of the A&E things but I hope they covered it all, especially before wrestling. I always knew who he was but as a youngun I had him written off as kind of 1 of those bad guys who was no real threat like he used to be. Then I grew up and all and THEN clicked on this little thread call “The Iron Shiek Goes Nut” one day. I’ve been a dang fan ever since lol! He took that and worked people like the dang pro that he was. Meanwhile that influenced so many people. So much crap talking you hear that’s for clicks or views or whatever...many people learned how to do that type of thing through that clip. I’ve since caught up on him and he was a solid worker in his prime, and just an insane sports entertainer heel. And his promos back then were funny to. The best promos are funny heel promos that are funny, yet you still hate the guy doing them. And he dang sure had a bunch of those.
  16. Sean Bossman: “The Boss” of Pro Wrestling. Does that name ring a bell with anybody? He’s losing his shit on FB right now.
  17. Pretty sure it wasn’t Grizzly Smith lol I’m not quite that old but I’ll have to see if it’s any of the others. As far as Grizzly Smith working in WCW as an agent, I just assumed he knew somebody who gave him a seat to shine with his rear. That seems to be what every WCW agent ever was.
  18. Big Sal is still alive. Would anybody happen to have a list of overall wearing wrestlers? I’m trying to figure out a match I saw on TV on a late Saturday or Sunday night when I was very young. I don’t think it was Hillbilly Jim.
  19. I agree that the execution of the plan was what was bad about that Royal Rumble, not the plan. Bob Backlun stopping and easing himself over the top rope didn’t look any better and didn’t help.
  20. Garvin/Valentine had a 1986 JCP feel to it, and I’m not just imagining that because it had Tony Schiavone on commentary. When Garvin hit him with the death blow the crowd even let out a JCP “OoOoOoOoO” noise like they used to do. How about The Rock n Roll Express vs The British Bulldogs? That gets unfairly lumped in with washed up vs washed up matches but that’s not what it was. I agree that the match could have been better but not because anybody was that washed. The Rock n Roll Express were playing off the crowd like they always do. For whatever reason, that crowd was just flat. So they just mat wrestled for 30 minutes instead which was still pretty good. Ricky Morton’s not clean shaved looked like a ran over pile of dog shit I will admit that.
  21. Ronnie has 10 years or so on most of the old guys we talk about. For a guy to be as good enough as he was through the years is impressive. When I learned how old he was I didn’t judge him. He was probably a good worker at 1 time and in any event he was always over even if the championship didn’t work out. Also Rick Martell was never what I’d call bad. He just wasn’t pushed storylinewise and stuff. Then when he came back in 1998 the storyline push he got was basically “this is that guy that was in the WWF forever with no storylIne” lol! He was still pretty good then really and it was cool seeing him show up looking like this regular guy with short hair and a smile lol! He seemed to enjoy in when he came back. It’s to bad he got hurt.
  22. Maybe he should drink the beer first like the happy interview wrestlers do.
  23. Valentine’s definitely somebody you think of when you hear the word “wrestler” for many little reasons but his shoots destroyed any hope of becoming a fan for me. He’s as negative as Honky and Superstar combined, but it’s with the intensity of some of his matches.
  24. I haven’t seen the WM match but I’m not shocked about that hot take considering what I know about this sport that I’ve followed for forever. I’ve heard the story about what made the match great/taboo a million times. It’s on my list of darkhorses to check out. I haven’t seen the Ric Flair brawl with the drop kick either but IIRC I saw a 10 minute or so highlight reel of it on YouTube. That looked like one of Flair’s best matches even. I’ve seen the Dog Collar match but I need to rewatch it. I seen it as a bloodthirsty 90s fan and was underwhelmed.
