Did I wake up in 2009? Between this and the seniors division idea (which I assume came to a merciful end with Tito/Bonnar), people just need to let certain stuff go. First off, absolutely not to the actual question. You're not going to develop a man of that age on an extremely lower platform (with no visibility) especially when he's a bigger superstar than at least 80% of your roster. But I will elaborate more on that point a little later. Second, look at how UFC utilizes RFA and Legacy a. Those are the two defacto minor/feeder leagues anyway. b. Working with those two organizations shows me they are not interested in developing any talent long term. The rate at which they are bringing guys up is insane when you realize 1/2 of these fighters will circulate the prelims for a majority of their UFC tenure. A quarter of them will unceremoniously get bounced after 1 or 2 fights to never to be seen again because they started as injury replacements. The rest are prospects (undeveloped or not) who can actually make a name for themselves whether they challenge for a belt or not. c. The reason why UFC is so overextended now vs. when they had WEC is they are essentially trying to do the jobs regional/minor league/international orgs have failed to do. Not that you don't have organizations that don't sell tickets or have a clear fanbase. It's that minor MMA organizations usually don't have a platform big enough to reach a certain audience to captivate fans. Because the UFC has more than enough programming with roughly 90% or more of the top fighters in the world, it makes watching anyone below that level (excluding Bellator) optional viewing. You have more Rumble on the Rock, Cage Rage, pre early 2007 WEC, and ICON/SuperBrawl type promotions than ever. However, people do not really give a damn enough to watch them. Although a purpose of the minor league is to build talent, the main purpose should be legitimizing them on a platform where they can be more than faceless guy #3506 and ready for the top orgs to grab them for immediate use. It helped that Alistair Overeem fought in Pride, but Strikeforce only grabbed him based on the whole Ubereem internet campaign. If he was just some big, roided up washed up Pride vet, he would still be fighting on Martjin de Jong's mob money funded shows in western Europe. That or KSW. He would have never been brought back to defend a belt very few people knew he won. Plus, he would have never got the Lesnar payday after that. So if CM Punk already has that hardcore faction behind him (which is way bigger than Overeem's), why the hell would you demote him down to whatever bummy regional league? I mean that on a star building level and skillset development level. So they can fill whatever 500 or 1,000 seat venue they run? Ed Soares has connections with exotic venues that most other promotions would lose their ass running, but he has no real interest in being the scapegoat when things fail. This guy didn't know one of his fighters fainted during a bout and continued on because he was doing some other shit for the UFC. The problem is no one wants that responsibilty unless they know they have the pieces to either compete with UFC or at least Bellator. So trust is definitely involved here. Who the hell would run this minor league if they were owned by the UFC? "The MMA Org Angel of Death" Jeremy Lappen? If you don't like how Dana and Lorenzo run the UFC, you're definitely not going to like the guys they handpick to run a minor league organization. It has disaster written all over it.

What I am saying is there is an inherent contradiction anyway. Not only is his job to hype CM Punk, it's also his job to hype Schaub. So what is he going to do when Schaub has another fight on a PPV or main Fox show? He is going to pretend like Schaub actually has a shot to win, which apparently he does not feel anytime he goes out there with someone half decent. And looking at his record, he is going to fight someone like that 9 times out of 10. So if Schaub calls him a "two faced piece of shit company man", then he could've stopped at least some of bombardment he got. But hey, he got what he wanted. Also, Rogan does not have to know about pro wrestling to know about Chris Benoit. If he can make the correlation with concussions with Terry Norris, then he can do with pro wrestling. He doesn't know about Rafael Nadal, but I'm pretty sure a 47 year old man can see pro wrestlers ain't playing tiddlywinks out there.

I think some people are putting a little bit too much into this. I would be more concerned if the UFC's business model was built completely around him like Kimbo Slice and EliteXC. Yeah, it would help business with him being around for awhile and being more than one-and-done like say...Rulon Gardner. However, that's radically different skill levels, different circumstances, and different mentality on how to use talent casual fans might know. This was more of a Bellator (well Viacom) type signing where you don't need this guy to win fight after fight to be worth the deal. Lombard is doing good but his deal really hasn't panned out. Also, it doesn't help his teammate is now world champ in the weight class he moved down to. Alvarez lost his first fight, but I am not completely writing him off yet. However, they still need him to win fights so he can challenge for the LW belt. For this one, Punk losing through whatever means does not instantly kill the deal. Even if it is to someone that doesn't have a fantastic record. 2-0 or 1-0 is still more pro fights than Punk has. This is not like some "None of these MMA guys are tough" thing where he has to prove pro wrestling is the strongest. This is learning on the job.

You know this is all going to end with JDS vs. Overeem. Gotta be a set up for a bigger Overeem cage meltdown.

By that criteria, there are a ton of judokas and BJJ players that haven't been in a fight that includes striking. Doesn't necessarily disqualify you from competing in one. Demian Maia came from an affluent background (well at least compared to many of his contemporaries like Jacare growing up in Manaus) in Sao Paulo. It's not like he was getting into fights everyday. It took him a few fights to get use to the whole "getting punched" part. Hell, Jacare got knocked out early on in his career. Today's Jacare would put that version of himself in the hospital. Sometimes, it clicks. Sometimes, it doesn't click it all.

2014 UPCOMING MOVIES/CASTING/TERRIBLE PROJECTS...

If you can't get Hans Zimmer, Desplat, or anyone of that ilk to do a pulse pounding score, that's the immediate backup plan. See: Untold, Dracula -

I would agree with that except for the fact that there is no set criteria for a podcast. Rogan isn't trying to protect some type of journalistic integrity. From a "we're just being conversational" perspective, the informal nature of podcasting protects Rogan. Unfortunately, what's going to make Rogan look like a douchebag is Schaub had NOTHING once he stopped explaining what happened in the Browne fight. Forget what you just brought up about other guys not being elite or w/e. If Schaub had even mentioned the fact Rogan just gleefully interviewed a man who said himself that he has 13 concussions, it turns into another conversation entirely. That or they eventually have an argument that automatically ends his (Schaub) UFC career. People joke about UFC brass telling Rogan to retire people in the cage post-fight. But this is the other side of that coin. There is no crowd to cheer for you when you say you're going to continue fighting on and Rogan has to stand there with a dumb look on his face trying to process it. This was Rogan without the entire UFC figure facade.

You gotta keep in mind, Rogan (and Callen most likely) knew someone like Greg Giraldo. This ain't his first "intervention". It's probably normal to him now.

At the 30 minute mark now. It started getting brutal when Joe goes into the Cain spiel twenty or so minutes in.

I am going to keep it US Airways Center just based off GP. Since it's still being called that at the moment, I am going to use that as my loophole.

It's a PPV company, and the peak Fox interest is during the NFL season. People are seeing the ad spots and hearing the commentators do the reads during games. I would think he fights before September of next year. I have no horse in the race or actual preference, but that's a logical reason why. The first two Fox shows of 2015 are in Sweden (stadium show) and the Prudential Center in April. They've already ran in Chicago for Fox shows twice. Maybe you do the show in July in Chicago.

I mean if the prelim show was on Fox like the last Fox show (a very rare occurrence BTW), then it makes sense. However, if the prelim show is on Fox, it might as well open up the main card or be the 2nd fight on the main card. You would just use that downtime in the preceding two hours to build up the main card. It would instantly be more effective than shoulder programming because you're going to have people stick around until the fight. If the fights suck, they're going to tune out in droves after the Punk fight. If the fights are good, then they might as well see what's up with the co-main and main event. If the prelim card is on FS1 (like this week's Fox show), why even bother? I know they're trying to build that channel up, but you don't waste the 1st fight on that.

Very odd considering who the UFC just signed and who Rogan interviewed on the PPV http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2014/12/8/7356577/ufc-commentator-joe-rogan-to-brendan-schaub-you-are-not-an-elite-fighter

Bad Meets Evil (Eminem and Royce da 5'9), which was formed before the beef and then reformed after Slaughterhouse signed with Shady Records Still one of my favorites.

I think it was Meltzer that said interest correlates almost directly to number of people streaming vs. actual buys. So yeah, you're going to have a ton of people finding illegal streams. However, that's already assumed if you have number of casual/non fight fans searching it up on the internet. Actual MMA fans who are not buying UFC shows anyway and don't give a shit about Punk are NOT going to count for those extra buys. Even out of curiosity. You also have to assume the number of paying wrestling fans has dwindled due to the WWE's own PPV suicide. So either way, most of the wrestling crowd is not what the UFC is going after. The UFC is going after people willing to pay to see him fight. If you're willing to pay top dollar for some of the stuff WWE has put out, they assume you'll pay to see CM Punk fight. They're not trying to convert wrestling fans (although that would a cherry on top) like 2005/2006 when they were on Spike. Most of the people who have switched over have done so.

Biggie's greatest diss was on "Unbelievable". He actually ended a career with one line.

You mean Viacom? If Viacom was still interested in TNA, they would've scrapped it for parts. Coker is making these moves because he couldn't get Kimbo or Gina Carano. UFC most likely isn't releasing Cung Le from his contact. So the only way to make it like Strikeforce (and PRIDE) is to sign wrestlers because the actual MMA free agency market stinks. They aren't going to be able to compete with the UFC on a top fighter-for-top fighter level.
