  1. Jamaal Charles deserves better than being stuck in this Kansas City offense for the rest of his career.
  2. That's also 7 seconds you could be doing other constructive things, like drinking water or quietly sitting on the bench, rather than bitch out the one player on your team that actually bothered to show up this year.
  3. He definitely took a few, disappointed slow steps out of the box when he realized he popped it up, but pretty much every batter does that. Even if the ball had been dropped, he would have been well on base. If Papelbon felt the need to chirp, maybe he should have waited until Harper actually got into the dugout, instead of screaming at him as he jogged off, like some sort of shitty hockey dad.
  4. 2 qb leagues are weird and foreign to me, I have no advice because I am scratching my head.
  5. Closers (unless they're named Mariano Rivera) should realize that the have the most overrated, least important job in baseball and should keep their mouths shut and just be thankful that they get paid millions of dollars for no reason other than people's obsession with useless stats. Not that I have any strong feelings on the matter. Poz has a nice take on the matter, which inevitably leads to a Royals and Reds story (he just needed to squeeze Buck O'Neil in there for bingo ) http://sportsworld.nbcsports.com/harper-papelbon-choke/ “I mean, Manny freaking hit a homer,” he said. “Walked it off, and somebody hit him. I mean it’s pretty tired. It’s one of those situations where it happens and, I don’t know, I’ll probably get drilled tomorrow.” You will notice that Machado is “Manny” in this retelling while Papelbon is “somebody.” Should Harper have publicly called out a teammate like that? Maybe not. But Harper is part of a new generation, one that doesn’t believe you should throw baseballs at people’s head in order to teach them unspoken rules. My daughter just read me this short story, Shirley Jackson’s “The Lottery,” about a town where everyone gets together once a year, has a lottery and — not to ruin the ending for you — stones the “winner.” Some of the people in the town tentatively ask, “Um, is this really a good idea?” and “You know, some towns have stopped doing this lottery.” But an old guy grumps that the kids today just don’t get tradition. Papelbon is that guy. So, you won’t convince me that the Machado incident had nothing to do with Sunday’s main event, where in the eighth inning, Harper flew out to left field. Papelbon decided that Harper did not run out the fly ball quite as hard as he should have (replays suggest Harper was perhaps sluggish out of the box, though this seemed a bizarre time to play hustle police), and he began screaming at Harper. And he kept screaming. And he kept screaming. Harper — the one player who lived up to expectations in this disaster film of a season and who was playing a day game after playing all 12 innings on Saturday when Washington was eliminated from the playoffs — finally turned around and shouted, “Let’s go.”
  6. Quick google search didn't bring up too much. Off the top of my head, there was a Canadian kid (I think he was in his 20s and playing semi-pro) that died during a fight when his helmet came off and he hit his head on the ice. I think I remember a player in Russia dying a few years ago when he was hit in the head with a puck. Of course, there have been famous close calls, like Clint Malarchuk having his jugular cut by a skate blade. But from what I can tell, it does not seem to happen with the same regularity as football. Hockey's biggest problem has been fighters succumbing to drugs/alcohol and suicides after their playing careers have ended.
  7. This probably has a lot to do with it. I know high school football is a different beast in the States, but when I played our medical "staff" was volunteer student paramedic that graduated from our high school 2 years previously.
  8. It seems foregone that Grienke will win the NL Cy (though Arrieta has had a monster season as wel), but who wins the AL? Keuchel seemed like the obvious choice for most of the year, but Price has really come on in the last couple months. Even with giving up four today, he has a lower ERA, more strikeouts and the same number of walks. Keuchel has given up less hits and has a lower WHIP, their inning pitched is basically identical. I think Keuchel still takes it since he's been the frontrunner all year, Gray and Archer are 3/4 respectively.
  9. Okay, so Brandin Cooks is out and Davante Adams is likely out, who the hell do I start as my flex. Ameer Abdullah or Joique Bell (DEN) Michael Floyd (SF) Barf Or do I drop Floyd and pick some shit head like Kyle Rudolph (SD), Tre Mason/Tavon Austin (PIT), Nelson Agholor (@NYJ), Charles Clay (@MIA), Rishard Matthews (BUF) or Darrius Heyward-Bey (@STL)? DHB may be the best bet, but I don't like any of those dudes.
  10. Cut the cord and now have mlb.tv, but they would always show tonnes of west coast games. It was always pretty great coming home from the restaurant at 10 or 11 and being able to chill to Vin Scully or watch Felix Hernandez pitch. They also show all the playoff games and all-star game. Usually for the World Series, they'd show the international feed. Pretty good if you didn't feel like listening to Buck a few channels over. Sportsnet went pretty whole hog into baseball 5 or 6 years ago. Obviously the Jays are the focus, but they show lots of other games. Sunday night game is on TSN.
  11. So....Marisa Tomei was just sitting in that chair, turned around the entire time, while the rest of the board just went about their meeting? This show continues to be great. Grace Gealy is my new celeb crush. She's like Halle Berry 2.0. And...DAT AZZ!!! I don't know what you're..........ohhhhh

  13. And not even the good Walls, too. The shitty boston crab version.
  14. If Brees is healthyish, I'd go Brees. The Vikes will probably try to run first. I don't really like that choice at all though.
  15. I could be one gentle breeze away from Stafford exploding and Derek Carr being my starter. ~DA RAIDERRRRZ~ I have the same two in a league and fuckit, I think I'm going Carr.
  16. It's only half of G&O, but I really liked Another Period, Riki Lindholme and Natasha Leggaro's Victorian upstairs/downstairs parody. The supporting cast is stellar, including Michael Ian Black and Christina Hendricks.
  17. NY Giants Cincinnati Carolina Oakland Atlanta Tampa Bay San Diego New England NY Jets Pittsburgh Indianapolis Arizona Buffalo Seattle Denver Green Bay Tiebreaker #1: Manning Tiebreaker #2: 295 Tiebreaker #3: 75
  18. Basically everything but the Piggy/Kermit melodrama was gold. Unfortunately, that took up the bulk of the show.
  19. Everything with the band was great. Zoot thinking the production meeting was AA (I guess NA is probably more likely) killed me. Imagine Dragons should know better than to invite Animal on the road, those guys would be dead in a week. Enjoyed the show, wasn't crazy hilarious or anything, but I'll stick with it. Second the love of Garfunkel and/or Oates showing up as Fozzy's girlfriend.
  20. The Jays are hitting Nova well, but everything is heading straight to defenders.
  21. My nephew will still be pretty pumped. Now if they could only start on a Minecraft movie, he'd be set.
  22. He's probably too late of a bloomer to get serious hall of fame consideration, but he's definitely in the category of most fun player I've ever watched. Personality and talent-wise, he's there with Ichiro and Vlad Guerrero for me.
  23. The Big Short looks great and it's not just because of all the fantastic wigs.
