  1. For people who don't really follow these sorts of things, this is Natsupoi covering a song by Ado from the One Piece Red soundtrack. Tam did another cover earlier in the week: These are mainly to boost the meltear CD although these two songs are not actually on there.
  2. Not sure if this will work but here's the search tag for Tsuji on NJPW World. https://front.njpwworld.com/search/tag/man_840 NJPW has tried to make things happen at Dontaku so I was waiting for something. Mox appeared on video and then ELP showed up to solidify his face turn. The Tsuji appearance was out of nowhere (he's still got CMLL bookings this weekend according to cubsfan).
  3. A story in three tweets: Taichi left a gift for the Stardom wrestlers at the Kokusai Center. Tam went to look for it but it was already gone. (Taichi unfairly blamed one of the custodial staff) Who got it? (Spoilered because it's three tweet links in a row and they eat up space.)
  4. Decided not to go anywhere during Golden Week but Mayu Iwatani makes me regret not going to Shimonoseki to see her dive off the Stardom tour bus.
  5. SANADA wins, of course, but Hiromu made it entertaining. Post SANADA pointing, a video hits that was teased earlier and Yota Tsuji comes out, takes out the other Four Guys and spears SANADA. Then, with impeccable timing, Tsuji waits a beat for the crowd to die down then hits the LIJ pose with a big smile on his face.
  6. Lot of changes tonight. Stardom World predated the deal with Bushi Road, right? Either way, Stardom and NJPW are beholden to other masters than Bushi Road sometimes. Sakura Genesis didn't stream live in Japan on NJPW World because TV Asahi aired it on their cable station to celebrate 50 years of NJPW on Asahi.
  7. 30 years but it's not like it was consecutive. Sort of misleading for them to say that. They are back in the Kokusai Center after running the Pay Pay Dome last year (which was only because they couldn't use the Kokusai Center). Stardom will run the Kokusai Center the next day. The highest and second highest priced seats are already sold out. The next two tiers are almost gone.
  8. The shot of the match is right before that clip starts when Okada is visibly struggling to complete the move he was going for. He really sold that SANADA took everything out of him.
  9. In Japan Hansen and Brody et al still get a lot of love because the guys (comedians usually) leading the talk shows are all in their forties and fifties so they often go back to the stars of their childhood. Also, lol at Michael Elgin being on the list. If the rankings were done now, I assume Tama Tonga and El-P would be higher, probably displacing Ricochet, Dragon Lee and Archer.
  10. I don't know what it was about Norton. Maybe being from late AWA tainted him for some people. He certainly never got any real recognition in WCW until Vicious and Delicious. A fan vote on NJPW World from 2021 or 2022 put him at number 16 in a ranking of foreigners in NJPW. The list really has some recency bias though so if you take out anyone who wrestled before 2010, he's comfortably in the top ten, above Bam Bam Bigelow.
  11. Kenoh and Kondo won the Twin Gate belts, marking the first time someone from outside of DG has ever won them. It's also Kondo's first ever title in DG. Kenoh is now a tag champ of two different promotions with two different partners.
  12. Are you talking about HANAKO? Stardom said that she was doing 学生プロ (student wrestling) prior to her debuting. And she did a few Prominence matches here and there. It's not a big secret.
  13. While most of the world (rightly) recognizes Sakamoto for his pioneering work with YMO and others on the electronic front and for his compositions like the work he did for the movies Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence and the Last Emperor, he also did a lot of other stuff that never went out of Japan. Witness one of his two Oricon Number 1 hits, a collaboration with the lead singer of RC Succession Kiyoshiro Imawano written specifically to be used in a Shiseido ad campaign.
  14. Because it's a special 50th anniversary thing with TV Asahi (50 years of NJPW on Asahi), I won't be able to see SANADA point weirdly after winning/not winning the IWGP title at Sakura Genesis. I think everywhere outside of Japan can still stream it live on NJPW World.
  15. There were a lot of what they call "public viewings" - places that had TVs simply switched them to the game (city halls, train stations, airports) or maybe set one up for people to watch (again, city halls and possibly neighborhood - or fureai - centers). The latter are usually aimed at older people. A couple of other places may do them in halls with projectors. There were some places that charged tickets. Here's an example of first a private "public viewing" (it was like 4000 yen a ticket, I think) and a local small one in the same video: It's kind of anything goes to some extent since the games are already being broadcast on free TV (NHK TV fees excluded). The same thing happens during the World Cup. During the Olympics some places might do them for a hometown hero. Sports bars are not quite that common outside of the big cities. My small city has one but it was raining on the day of the semi-final so I just watched at home.
  16. 42.4 with a high of 46 when Ohtani faced Trout. The replay in the evening did a 22. It was also streamed live on Amazon Prime in Japan so we will never know the true numbers. The quarterfinal with Italy was the highest with a 48 because it was during prime time.
  17. I have no idea why that barstool person tweeted that out. It's like, what, it doesn't sound impressive enough that almost half the TVs in the country tuned in to watch the game on the morning of a work/school day? The top rated televised sports event in Japan is the 1964 Tokyo Olympics broadcast that included the Japan women's volleyball team (legendary team who were called the um..Oriental Witches) with a 66.8, closely followed by the Japan/Russia 2002 World Cup game with a 66.1 (a 1-0 Japan win that caused riots in Russia, I believe).
  18. Because I now see it all the time, I want to make sure that everyone else notices SANADA's weird pointing when he talks. He's an action figure with a molded hand and the only point of articulation is his wrist.
  19. I was at work when the game was going on but keeping track on Amazon Prime and the WBC site. Couldn't really cheer but when Ohtani struck out Trout a shiver went through me. Every single Japan WBC so far scored a 40 plus in the TV ratings in Japan. The semi-final "only" got a 42.5 (with a high of 47.7) due to it being in the morning even though it was a national holiday - had it been during prime time (or golden time as it's called in Japan) - it probably would have gained the highest baseball rating ever (a Yomiuri Giants/Chunichi Dragons game at the end of the 94 season that determined the league champion that got a 48.8). The quarterfinal with Italy got close with a 48.0. And this is not including the numbers from Amazon Prime so it's very likely that half the country was tuning into the games.
  20. Robbie Eagles is now TMDK 4 Life and is Hiromu's next IWGP jr title challenger.
