  1. In Japan (and most of East Asia) table tennis and badminton are some of the biggest Olympic sports (curling sort of too after the last winter Olympics). The mixed doubles quarterfinal between Germany and Japan was tense today. I can't imagine how it would have been with a crowd. The semis are between Japan, Taiwan, China and France. France has a player who started out in China and later moved to France, something not uncommon in the last few Olympics. The best players in Japan go to China to train. Japan picked up the first ever skateboarding gold today. If people have VPNs can they access the NHK online feeds? They don't have everything up there because some events are on TV (split between NHK and all the different TV stations) but they do have live streams of things like 3 x 3, surfing, boxing and tennis. During the gymnastics qualification runs each apparatus had a different feeds (not that they labeled it that way though.) Also, I'm not sure if they showed it but here is the pantomime pictogram thing (can't embed because of NHK): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-q7URCY7vY
  2. Your official sponsors for Kizuna Road and Summer Struggle.
  3. The whole point of having a Wrestling Dontaku is that there is a giant event going on at the same time that in a normal year brings something like two million people into Hakata. But they've already canceled the parade for this year and the Dontaku itself is scaled way down. No one is using the Marine Messe hall on the 3rd and 4th so why not run one slightly bigger show there?
  4. The audience cap was raised to 10,000 last month. On the 18th of this month the government will decide whether to stay with that or go to half-capacity.
  5. To add some context about the earthquake, they were in Sendai where it was probably a four or five on the shindo scale as it was fairly close to the epicenter. It is also one of the areas where the Tohoku earthquake hit and the tenth anniversary of the quake was about just under two weeks ago. There are still constant earthquakes happening in that area on a small scale that are aftershocks of the Tohoku quake with the last big one happening in February.
  6. Press Conference for Wrestle Kingdom. https://news.goo.ne.jp/article/battle_news/sports/battle_news-20201223_65805.html "El Phantasmo" is there. Everyone does the do your hand gesture while standing next to your opponent photo op and then there's this:
  7. This is going to be another episode of the thing they did with Amazon that was released back in September.
  8. The third joshi legends "performance" match is Dump Matsumoto and Bull Nakano against Jumbo Hori and Yukari Omori
  9. The last two episodes of the 6:05 podcast are with a bunch of voters going over their ballots, the year's inductees and various other topics, among others what changes should be made. Even if you aren't a fan of Brian Last, you get to hear a pretty nice range of long time voters and at least one first time voter.
  10. On Thursday Spike mentioned getting something from Friga. And I'm like "who?" Then on Friday my new resident is..Friga. I've been playing AC:Pocket Camp (the smart phone game) a lot recently after stopping a while back. They've started to introduce more elements from ACNH. Right now C.J. is doing a fishing event and Flick is supposed to come by after that. My current goal is to get my ACNH villagers and my ACPC campers to line up.
  11. I hit the wrong button when I was trying to give candy to a villager and she painted my face. There was a weird glitch when I saved my game dressed as Jack. When I started up again not only was I down to my undies but my hair and facial features had reset to the default.
  12. I believe you can eat them like any other fruit so if you are planning on uprooting a bunch of trees in the future you can use them then.
  13. It's not like they are very rigorous at convenience stores and most markets where "press this button if you are of age to buy alcohol, we trust you" is standard operation. Cashiers having eyes will stop most kids from buying alcohol but a teenager not wearing a school uniform has a good chance. At least with some beer vending machines you had to put your drivers license in to verify...something. I was never sure how they worked.
  14. That reminds me, why was Phil Hickerson was named after a Japanese shochu highball when he was in World Class/USWA? Anyway, beer is generally expensive in Japan so the Strong Zero (I've been buying triple peach recently) and it's type are good alternatives although I'm more of a canned highball person if I need something quick from a convenience store.
  15. The description actually has this: 各種空手チョップ/karate chop 2:42...
  16. If a villager gets "adopted" by a friend, they will remember you. If not, they get memory wiped. I've had a few times when the very first character I meet on a tour is the villager who had just moved out and they didn't remember me.
  17. No K.K. on my island today . I guess he could pop up once the Bug-Off is finished.
  18. Seems like they were paparazzi-esque ambush shots. No one looks good in those.
  19. From a quick online search (obviously this is not a definitive answer) those photos and the story accompanying it are from 2017 about an incident in 2015. He looks better now. He has been running his own announcing school for a couple years and apparently he had invited over some announcing student from Senshu University and he sexually harassed him. As far as I can tell, he is still in business and is still working. Most of the stories about this case are either republishing the original story or slightly repurposed versions almost all using the same photos. Jprime is a tabloid and the story used an anonymous source so it's hard to tell what exactly happened and if the story is just being used as way to imply that Wakabayashi is gay.
  20. I think almost all the guys who wrestle full time for Kyushu Pro have changed their names to reflect their Kyushu roots. Setoguchi changed his name to Sakurjima after the volcanic island in his native Kagoshima. The former junji.com is now Junji Tanaka and he does a Yamakasa bearer gimmick which means you see way more of his butt then is normal in pro wrestling. Genkai used to be Hideyoshi in Osaka Pro, I think.
  21. Kyushu Pro did their annual Kinniku Yamakasa show without an audience. Main was Genkai vs Yuji Hino for the Kyushu Pro title. Genki Horiguchi and Yokosuka Susumu are in a three way for the tag titles aganst Kenichi Arai and Minoru Fujita and Naoki Sakurajima and Kazuaki Mihara. This is usually their biggest show of the year. They generally bring in one big name like Muto and Tenryu (who had his last match in Kyushu for them). I believe for their 10th anniversary show they were going to run the Kokusai Center in Hakata which only NJPW (Dontaku) and Dragon Gate (Final Gate) run and then Fukuoka got hit by a typhoon that weekend and the show went on with a much smaller crowd.
