  1. Sold.+1Another 50 hours of the second best AC game? Sign me up.
  2. Raiden is definitely a Japanese game. Seibu Kaihatsu is the developer. Man I love those games.
  3. They're Facebook page has barely mentioned Rogue at all. It's been all Unity, all the time, for months. I'll get both games but not right away. Wait for the inevitable Ubisoft price cutting. And, yeah, don't understand releasing both at the same time.
  4. I just... don't get it. You sign well known actors from 2 HUGELY popular sci fi franchises and you stick them in that rom com looking piece of shit? And you make one of them use an American accent instead of letting her use her normal voice that was used in said franchise. It's important to saddle the show with a title that immediately limits its shelf life and demographic appeal too.
  5. The Cardinals defense was kinda middle of the road- in fact they were 28th in the league in points allowed. So I think they would've given up the touchdown or FG anyway. They'd have had time for one play. Harrison scored with no time left so if he gets tackled at the 40, there's what. a max of 5 seconds left?
  6. Next up: Bet Raise Fold - The Story of Online Poker - Documentary that follows a couple of online poker players and, through them, seeks to tell the story of the rise of online poker. They do a good job of that, highlighting the major players in the market. They buy into the "gee, it was just SOOOO easy to make money" narrative that's taken hold for the 2003-2007 period and so we get lots of players telling us just that. There's some discussion on the mental aspects - handling swings in bankroll, dealing with family, etc. And then lots of discussion on the 2011 "Black Friday" when the poker sites got shut down and player assets frozen. This portion of the story is very well-told and is especially infuriating to me (as a former online poker player*). They also spend time on the scandal surrounding the fraud committed by the Full Tilt Poker guys and how all but the non-player CEO got away scot-free (basically). The documentary isn't perfect - it mentions cheating as a concern for playing but then ignores the huge scandal involving Ultimate Poker and the cheating done there. Still, it's really good and makes me long for the days when I could play online. 9/10. * - I was fortunate in that the state of Washington passed a law that explicitly made it illegal to play online poker months before Black Friday. I was able to cash out my balance and completely avoid the mess created by the mass shutdown. It's 3-1/2 years and there are STILL people who haven't gotten paid by Full Tilt Poker...
  7. Well, Randy Moss had to do time in jail and then violate probation by smoking pot to get kicked out of FSU. So...there's your neighborhood for Ukeme's transgression.
  8. What if somebody tackles James Harrison around the 40yd line in Super Bowl XLIII instead of letting him score?
  9. At best, they win one more playoff game. Vanderjagt missed 3 FGs in playoff games for Indy. One was the aforementioned Pittsburgh game (the possible win). The other two were a 6-point loss and a 41-0 wipeout. I suppose it's possible he cost them the 6-pt game by virtue of missing an earlier FG forcing them to go for a TD late but I don't know. Regardless, they scored just 17. Can't fault the kicker missing one FG if you score only 17 and he accounted for 9 of the 17.
  10. Why the heck would anybody wanna see Golic discus? Is he particularly good with flinging plates or something?
  11. Another documentary: Ecstasy of Order - The Tetris Masters - This is a documentary following one man's attempt to put together a tournament whose goal is to crown a world champion of "classic Tetris" - that is, the Nintendo version of the game for the NES. You can take issue with the "world champion" portion of it - nobody from outside the US is involved - but that's really the only knock. We meet several players and their respective talents and techniques are discussed in fine detail. We get some fun archival footage of the 1990 Nintendo World Championship - at which Tetris played a prominent role and the organizer of this tournament competed. The players speak reverently of the almost-mythical player "Thor" - yes that's his actual name - who won the title in 1990. They are in awe of his talent and wonder whether he'll compete this time around. We get to meet Thor as well. And they discuss the difficulties of this particular version of Tetris. And then we get the actual competition, which might be the least-interesting part of the doc. What's really cool is that the players all seem to be nice. They seem to genuinely like and respect each other. They might all be (somewhat) socially awkward or whatever but they seem to be pleasant to be around. All in all, this is a well-done documentary on easily the most-popular video game of all-time. Well worth watching. And we get a great payoff at the end. 9/10. p.s. In watching the doc, it occurred to me that Tetris has been on pretty much every platform ever. Hell, I've even written my own version of it (a pretty good version, I might add). Every platform except the two current ones - XB1 and PS4 - that is. Wonder how long it'll be before we get versions for those platforms...
  12. Oh god yes. The NHL created a ratings bonanza for NBC a few years ago with the outdoor games. They've had great matchups in great environments with superstars all over the place. Detroit hit a mega grand slam with their hockey festival last year and really did it up right (an outdoor alumni game, a billion tournaments and amateur deals all over the city and, of course, an incredible Red Wings/Leafs game at The Big House in front of 105,000). And the NHL sees that success, is too stupid to realize that something is only special if it's infrequent, and just screws it all up with too many outdoor games. Blech.

    2015 HOF Thread

Following on from a video linked in the article: How many did he actually send into the Cove, and more importantly, how many hall of famers hit fewer total home runs than Barry Bonds hit into the sea? EDIT: Wikipedia has the answer: 35. The rest of San Fransisco have hit 33, and the rest of the Majors have hit 38. 18 HOFers hit 35 or fewer home runs. A few prominent ones: Ozzie Smith, Lloyd Waner, Rick Ferrell, and all three of the Tinkers-to-Evers-to-Chance guys. Ray Schalk holds the record for fewest with 11.
  14. Best Buy has a deal going on right now where you get 2 years free ("$120 value") of Gamers Club Unlocked with the purchase and activation of any phone. It also works with the purchase of SIM cards for Net 10, which are as low as $6.99 each. There's a phone you can price match against Radio Shack to get price down to $5. So you can get 2 years of GCU - which gets you 20% of all new games - for $5-7.
  15. So it's basically Robotron or Super Smash TV but with terrible graphics? I love both of those games so will give it a shot but the aesthetic for the game is just awful
  16. My Facebook has multiple people on it hoping that the Vikings release AD so the Lions can sign him. "We whip our kids in Detroit too" - actual quote. I hate my friends.
  17. What they were saying on ESPN last night is that they expect he'll just have to repay a bunch of the salary he got while suspended and that'll be the end of it.
  18. You didn't miss anything - the vampire DLC wasn't good.
  19. Nice! I almost bought Injustice today. Glad I didn't!
  20. At least IGN has extensive coverage on their site for the problem. And by extensive, I mean "not a single word".
  21. I'm there for ya. If only I had some clue wtf you're talking about.
  22. I've been down the "batshit insane family leads to niece living with me" road. Except in my case, my niece turned out to be a pathological liar and a total nightmare. That's neither here nor there. We were given custody of my niece for the time she lived with us. We actually went to court and my niece swore out a complaint saying she needed protection from her mom. If you don't go the emancipation route, you should try for that. We also applied for TANF ("Temporary Assistance for Needy Families") - essentially welfare for my niece to make sure all her expenses were met. It wasn't a ton of money - something like $375 a month - but it was nice for paying for her clothes, food, and so on. That was not based on any financial status on our part but simply her status as a child not living with her parent. Your situation sounds awful. Do whatever you can to protect your niece from mom & grandpa. They are toxic and will only cause (dis)tress. Do whatever you can to take distractions and stressors our of your niece's life and just let her enjoy the last half of her senior year. And be prepared for clashes with her. As I've learned with my nephew now living with us, it's not ALWAYS smooth when you shift the dynamic from "cool uncle you hang out with" to "authority figure to whom you must answer". And make absolutely sure you and your wife talk to each other and reinforce that you are teammates through this mess. Good luck, bro.
  23. So, yeah, me and the guys went to the movies last night: John Wick - Do you want to see 90 minutes of Keanu Reeves half-growling his lines and busting out headshots on a whole bunch of fools? Yes, yes, you do. This movie does nothing original - except perhaps not having Reeves bang the hot female assassin trying to kill him - but it does everything really well. It's slick, it's fast-paced, it has some humor and Reeves is fantastic in this. The bad guys are a bunch of cliches (Russian bad guys who smoke with the youngish son who's a totally entitled douchebag listening to obnoxious rap music) mixed with the "Mayhem" guy from car insurance commercials but you don't care. They mess with Keanu's dog and he makes them pay. And it all just...works. So ignore the flaws, dream of a world where John Wick kidnaps Liam Neeson's daughter or something, and enjoy this movie. It's a lot of fun. 9/10.
