WRESTLING ON THE INTERNET NOT FROM THE NOW
Cobra Commander replied to RIPPA's topic in The PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING
May 1985 WWF All-Star Wrestling: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDAKUBQQ4FA Matt Borne is teaming with a job guy against Tito and JYD! We see Muraco, Steamboat, Bob Orton, David Sammartino, and the US Express in action! Freddie Miller is still employed by the WWF and is doing interviews for house shows in Worcester! Sheik and Volkoff are on the Body Shop! Jesse says "Allah Akbar" to the Sheik! The on-screen chyron guy keeps fucking up on the intros! David Sammartino's armdrags are still ridiculously violent looking and he does one every 30 seconds! They insist on referring to a belly to belly suplex as a "Body to Body" suplex, which would be a solid name for a Belly to Belly done by a really fit heel! Ted Grizzly looks like a guy who would have a long feud with Cousin Junior in rural Tennessee! Mike Rotundo has to figure out a finish after Ted Grizzly goes down like a bag of fat! Jesse puts in a varying amount of effort reacting to the announcement of names during the intros/outros -

who would have said No first on Sherri in the NWO in 1996, Sherri or the NWO? obviously once Elizabeth ended up in the NWO, they weren't gonna add another woman. Also guessing that wouldn't have been a great combo for the sake of substance abuse -

This probably isn’t a huge shocker but derby fashion was a bit of an inspiration for some of Cornette’s attire game. Although I think he said he got his stuff from a store in Nashville early on. Also worth noting that Derby fashion probably isn’t fly off the handle until the last decade or two. -

May 1995 WCW Saturday Night! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdb0M9beKS4 Sting squashes a guy! Bobby Heenan rotates between picks in the US Title Tournament! Meng squashes a fat boy! Dick Murdoch replaces Dory Funk Jr at Slamboree! DDP buys stuff! Someone brought a sign for Frankie Lancaster! A recap of the last 6 months of Ric Flair as he returns at Slamboree! Ed Leslie is announced as The Butcher but referred to as the Man With No Name! Savage beats Butcher in a few minutes and then we get a Savage/Hogan/Renegade vs Flair/Arn/Vader schmozz! Hulk Hogan reveals their secret weapon is Angelo Poffo (who may or may not be leading a washed Gordon Solie to leave the company) Also, it's a one hour (42 minute) episode since the Braves are playing the Phillies on that night. -

Is Drew not old enough to work CMLL? -
Tony probably can’t do the Joel Gertner nickname intros in 2024. At least not until he gets his TV rights secured

i'd think that being owned by the same group that owns UFC might have been a big factor in putting Wrestlemania in the same city that has run a bunch of UFC cards -

If Sabu had stuck around for awhile longer we would have gotten Macho Man vs Sabu because Mach worked for the Sheik as one of his first breaks. Washed up mid life crisis Mach would have been treated like a God if he showed up in late ECW to drop shoot elbows on Tony Mamaluke and Jeff Jones. -

The real surprise if [wrestler A] debuts at [show B] wouldn’t be that [wrestler A] debuted but that he should get into [country C] with his record -

I think ECW was dramatically overestimating their chance of signing Kurt Angle in 1996 even if they didn't run that angle -
I wasn’t entirely sure until it happened if Rampage would have an overrun but I should have figured that they weren’t gonna do a 45 minute Rampage. Modern Family reruns were not safe last night. New AEW “show” idea: AEW Uncut. With the content that aired in the overrun after everybody’s recordings went off.
-
There are upsides and downsides to the idea of mimicking the promo stylings of 1980s World Championship Wrestling episodes where there’s 20 promos in 2 hours and everybody comments on the main angle even if they’re not involved in it Just came to mind with the talk about lack of babyface outrage over the Elite

April 1988 AWA Wrestling: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-S0HtTdYzeQ Bad Company has a new manager! Rocky Mountain Thunder works a relatively safe match! We see Verne Gagne beat Jerry Blackwell from 6 years before with video quality that screams "1970s"! The Rock'n'Roll Express is here! The Rockers are still here! Ray Stevens looks like a Warsaw Pact dictator! -
Things I Remember from tonight's episode of Dyna-page: This won't go in any sort of chronological order because it went 3+ hours I think that Rampage was sort of the afterparty tonight even if it had matches that looked good when I looked at the TV. The angle ending Dynamite was sorta predictable. Choose to believe what you want in regards to Kenny's ability to do anything without ending up in a hospital. It's Kenny Omega, so there's probably a strong chance that he's actually gonna try to wait out what he has. The Bucks as the evil overlords of the show is fucking lame and lazy booking. Although them cutting off Tony's intro was kinda fun. Chris Jericho is as lame as ever but they might be leaning into that. Feels like hitting someone with a bag filled with hockey pucks is how you assault someone in Canada Orange is all alone because Chuck Taylor is gone Swerve is now feuding with Christian Cage in a "tie up the strings from 8 months ago" feud Oh yeah, Brian Cage showed up and lost. Buddy Matthews vs Copeland looked fun I remember nothing about Joe/Kassidy Of all the nights, this was one of them.

Stevie being in WCW for like 3 months and getting a Nitro match with Macho Man was pretty wild
