  1. Amazon has started to update Turbografx Mini preorders. They're showing a 5/22 release date with most preorders set to arrive between 5/26 and 5/28.
  2. Wow. I'm impressed as it took me two solid hours because I kept biffing the randomized QTE where you both climb the cage.
  3. A big part of it was rental syndrome. Game companies were terrified of releasing stuff that two average kids could beat in a weekend, and tweaked shit for US release to make them harder (see also Contra Hard Corps). If you have the PS4/XB1/Switch/Steam Genesis pack, it will let you play both the US/EU and JP versions. The JP is still rough, but not nearly as gouge-your-eyes-out nasty as the Western version.
  4. Age of Apocalypse happened about a year before I became a Wednesday Warrior. I've been trying hard to keep up with Jay and Miles, but...this is not the kind of stuff I loved when I was in high school (when I mostly checked to see if Waldenbooks had a new issue of Quasar, X-Factor or Guardians of the Galaxy), and it REALLY isn't the kind of stuff that got me super into comics in college. I can ABSOLUTELY understand why it was such a huge deal for so many people, but coming to it cold 25 years later I'm mostly "oh that's a neat angle" with no actual attachment or investment.
  5. New MK 11 expansion coming 5/26 with new story chapters featuring the DLC characters, and Professor of Art History Peter Weller as Robocop.
  6. Hooked up my PSVR for the first time since Christmas because I craved some full immersion Tetris Effect, and finally tried Astrobot Rescue. It can be a little frustrating, but it's charming AF and I'm having a blast with it.
  7. Fair. And while my two favorites are out, there's a lot to like there. The "toy" action games are all very interesting to me, and there are enough card and board games that I DO want that it's a disappointment but not a dealbreaker.
  8. Me at lunchtime: Oh cool, there's a new Clubhouse Games out next month! Me on watching the trailer ten minutes later: Fuck do you MEAN they didn't do the Battleship and Stratego clones?
  9. "Time Lord Victorious" sounds ludicrous: a story starring 8, 9 and 10, told in comics, novels and radio plays with tie-in toys and an escape room or something? If this brings Eccleston to Big Finish, I'll probably cry. https://www.radiotimes.com/news/tv/2020-04-27/doctor-who-time-lord-victorious/
  10. A mix of my Dragon Con crew (people I used to MUSh with in the 90s) and my local Geeks Who Drink team have been running various Jackbox games a couple times a week and it's been rad. Tonight we finally broke out a few games we hadn't previously run, and both Earwax (Cards Against Humanity-type "assemble an answer to a prompt from random pieces" game, but with sound efects) and Bomb Corp (which distributes rules across multiple players and makes you talk them out to make sure nobody breaks one) are amazing. We'd already been having a great time with the games that have made these famous (Fibbage, Quiplash, YDKJ and Trivia Murder Party) but this was some shit we'd never looked at and took us by surprise. Would there be any interest in a DVDVR night for these games every week or two? I can set up a discord server to host and I own all 6 packs.
  11. I don't think she's saying your post is anti-Semitic, but that the jokes about Sy Borgman are?
  12. Has anyone else been having serious network trouble with MK11? Ever since the Spawn patch, I can't reliably do even a 3-fight Tower of Time without a server fart dumping me to title. (On PS4)
  13. My "good eps only" GI Joe watch hit "Worlds Without End" today. And Grunt and Steeler finding their own corpses is still the single most fucked up thing in the history of children's television.
  14. I have turned the corner on Clutch. He has by far the most personality of anyone in Year One GI Joe. Hama and Trimpe's affection for Grand Slam is still a mystery.
  15. We lost Dad on Wednesday. I cried a lot before, but haven't since. I am not okay, but I'm better than when I was watching him struggle to breathe. I have almost called him 4 times since I got home Friday, just to tell him I am making his chili recipe or that I got home safely. I think COVID is making it worse; there's currently a two week backlog for cremation in the DFW area, and we won't be able to have a memorial service til June at the earliest, so I was at home alone less than 48 hrs later with no family time and no opportunity to let him go. It just doesn't feel real, in a way that it immediately did with my mom.
  16. Working my way through Marvel-era GI Joe for the first time. I had forgotten that other than Snake-Eyes, Scarlett and maybe Breaker, nearly all of the characters who were important to the cartoon either originated in the comic and only got toys 2-3 years in (Baroness), or were just the new guys when they were making the MASS Device pilot. So far I'm really enjoying it, but it feels weird to be reading about Clutch and Grand Slam as important recurring team members. Haven't made it to the start of the Vietnam and Arashikage flashbacks yet though.
  17. That's the gray goo ep, right? All I remember about kt is that Ray Palmer saves the day after riding in Diana's cleavage.
  18. He's still in very rough shape, but is conscious and stable. On O2 but not a vent, getting nutrition thru his nose because he's aspirating too much to eat or drink safely and he's not strong enough to get the stomach tube installed.
  19. My dad is on his way out. Not COVID, just his body deciding it was done with chemo and shutting down. He's on a vent and sedated in the ICU. My sister is freaking out because she can't see him (the entire ICU is patients-and-staff only, they even made the public elevators not recognize that button) and they won't even let her spend time in the waiting room. My brother and I are not local; Aaron, who has been a pastor for over a decade and is VERY used to the "my elderly loved one is dying" cycle, has kind of shut out his own emotions in favor of being the caregiver/counselor. I'm sitting in an apartment alone and crying. Yesterday I was terrified that he would need me for in-home care, and I was gonna have to move to an exurban town where being a disabled non-driver meant relying on other people to leave the house. Today, I'm terrified that I'm going to say goodbye to someone who can't talk back over Skype video, if I even get that. I'm glad I saw him in January and that we'd been talking daily during the lockdown, as it's at least something. Edited to clarify the elevator thing. obviously there are elevators going to ICU but the ones visitors can access don't
  20. I've been on a GI Joe kick this week, and this morning I watched RESOLUTE for the first time since it aired on Adult Swim. Thoughts: 1) the action scenes are amazing, especially the ones with Snake Eyes and Tunnel Rat 2) Warren Ellis's script has crotched itself on the thin line between stupid and clever and fallen onto the stupid side 3) in spite of this, Duke and Scarlett's last six minutes is actually kind of charming 4) I am very very glad we no longer live in a world where Steve Blum gets asked to voice nonwhite characters because his Roadblock is borderline offensive. 5) it's weird in a show so bloody and with a death toll in the millions that only one named Joe actually dies (there are a lot of unnamed characters who don't make it) 6) pretty much any two-parter of the 80s series feels more grown up than this "grown up GI Joe"
  21. Children's author and illustrator Tomie DePaola has died at 85 after complications from a fall.
