  1. Really? That's no good. Has that been reported?
  2. Surely Bryan is being added to take the fall so Edge can win without Roman being beaten? Everything seems to point to Vince deciding that the big story for this year's Wrestlemania is the legendary Edge's triumphant return from injury, epic rumble win from the #1 spot and big crowning moment at the show itself. I hope not though. And I guess it's possible he's changed his mind since then anyway.
  3. First few matches didn't do much for me. The video package for McIntyre/Sheamus was the highlight of the show at that point. Great great package as we've come to expect from WWE. And the match was even better. Brilliant, stiff war between two guys who know each other well and are happy to lay it in. Both guys had bumps and bruises all over them. Bliss/Orton/Fiend was dumb but honestly not as dumb as I thought it'd be. Not sure what to make of the new look really. It's something. As expected, the main event was fantastic. I loved their match 6 years ago and this one stands up well alongside it. Probably the most I've enjoyed a match in the thunderdome. Bryan is just a master and Reigns is fantastic in his own right now. Hell of a ref bump. The Edge "turn" was a bit clunky perhaps but it was fine. As long as we're getting Bryan added to the Mania match...
  4. It seems weird until you remember that Wrestlemania is two nights this year. Perhaps they're hosting a night each? The idea of a Titus and Hogan double act is strange of course.
  5. The ladder match felt a bit off to me - as most (all?) of the multi-person ladder matches AEW have done so far have. Archer was the highlight. I didn't feel like Sky, Caster or Page really came out of it looking much better than they did going in. And I figured this match's main purpose was to give those three guys the chance to really shine.
  6. Oh yeah, completely agree with this. So odd. Why did they do that?
  7. Who are we referring to here? Of the "home grown talent", the names that have stood out to me so far are MJF, Darby, Jungle Boy, Guevara and Starks. And John Silver. Perhaps Wardlow and Hobbs in the future. Britt for the women. Pretty much all them are featuring prominently. In fact there's a number of names that are probably featuring more prominently than they should be at this point - Sabian, the Acclaimed, most of the Dark Order, Jack Evans, the Best Friends. I was just thinking that the roster could do with being trimmed sooner or later and there's really a lot of people that could be cut without anyone really batting an eyelid.
  8. That match is such a banger. Came to it when watching '97 Nitro on the Network and was shocked at how great it was. A real hidden WCW gem.
  9. well Meiko/KLR was a real banger but I sure was hoping for a different result. I thought KLR might retain with shenanigans but was hoping it wouldn't be clean. Seems strange to bring in Satomura only to have her lose so quickly. Really good match though. Ilja/Gradwell was also great - Ilja basically doing the old Ken Shamrock gimmick works for me. He's probably my frontrunner to topple Walter atm. Was skeptical at first but Noam Dar hosting a talk show could have potential, he had me chuckling a few times.
  10. No one's posted this fantastic video tribute to Kobashi by Hans Meier yet. Big fan of this - he's got a bunch of other great ones on the channel as well.
  11. I don't disagree that Edge is a good opponent for Reigns to beat, even if I'm not that into it. I'm not sure it's a given that he won't win though. By any means. In fact I thought a lot of people are expecting Edge to win as they'll play up how incredible it is that he came back from a career ending injury to win the big one at Mania. Do hope not though.

    1997 WWF

I actually started something similar about a year or so ago. Only I'm doing both WWF and WCW. I've made it to August of 1997. Has been a blast to watch the formation of the nWo as well as Raw gradually improving. I plan on watching all the way to the Invasion, although that will probably take a long time. Will be fun to read these and contribute though.
  13. First Chamber was excellent. Bummed that Cesaro didn't win. More bummed that when Bryan did win we only got a minute of him vs. Reigns. I'm less interested in Edge/Reigns than Reigns vs. any of Cesaro, Bryan or even Jey Uso. Not big on the Miz right now but it does spice things up at least. I'd be okay with him dropping the belt to Lashley, only for him to drop it back to Drew at Mania. That way we get well deserved rewards for Miz, Lashley and Drew. Solid show I suppose.
  14. Sherri was presumably supposed to miss Debra and hit herself in the face with the rebound, but she ends up walloping Debra instead. Saw this by chance the other day and it amused me way more than it had any right to.
  15. Hell of a show. I've missed a few Takeovers during the pandemic but in the period before it hit I thought there was a couple that weren't quite on the level they used to be and I'd generally become a bit apathetic towards the brand. Especially lengthy Adam Cole matches. This one delivered in a big way though, even without a full crowd. Opener had some sloppy moments early on but it got better and they went all out. Raquel killed it and is clearly in line for a big push this year. Was surprised to see her and Kai win but I like it. I hope the NXT women win it. Would be refreshing and they'd have more challengers on NXT. Johnny/Kushida was a blast. Bit too long for me but nothing major. I was pulling for Kushida but I did expect Gargano to retain. What I didn't expect was that would it be a clean win. Guessing Dexter will be the one to dethrone Gargano now? I fear that Kushida will be forgotten again but hopefully that won't be the case. It'll be good to have a good promo guy like Ricker in NXT. Men's Dusty cup final was just fantastic, my match of the night I think. MSK and especially Wes Lee were on fire - a star making performance from him really. Glad they won, booking a new act to win something major so quickly feels like something WWE don't do enough of. GYV lose in the final again but I don't think they needed it as much as MSK. Women's title was the weakest match of the show although I am enjoying seeing Mercedes having her time in the spotlight. Surely they should be building to her winning the title, would be a great story. The table breaking was so awkward. Nice dive from Io off the lighting thing however. That Balor/Dunne video package is something else. "They see the poster boy for European wrestling, I see a geezer with a glass jaw" is such a class line. I liked that they included the Edge promo too. Made the match feel like an even bigger deal. Really liked all the mat stuff here and I didn't feel like it went on too long at all. Definitely about time TUE broke up, they seem like the stalest thing in NXT. I much prefer KOR to Adam Cole so I'll be happy to pull for him as the babyface.
  16. Honestly, thought it was a really good show this week. Don't think I skipped anything. I thought I'd hate MSK and the little mic time they've had has been annoying but they've been really entertaining in the ring and I love how strong they've been booked right off the bat. Really good match with LDF this week. They're one of those acts I imagine I would have no interest in if they were on the main roster but in NXT they work. I'm on board with the Chinese comic book stuff. It's supernatural in wrestling done well. The Undertaker/Kane origin angle from back in the day was one of my favourite things in wrestling as a kid and this reminds me of that. Speaking of things that reminded me of the attitude era, the Gargano/Regal segment brought back memories of similar segments from back in the day too. Top stuff and this heel Gargano run continues to surprise me with how good it's been. Big Stonks Grimes should be something else. Count me in. I'm really enjoying Thatcher and Ciampa as two guys who just like to fight. I feel like that's one thing modern wrestling is missing - in the US anyway. I only got back into watching NXT again recently after tuning out at the beginning of the pandemic. I'd already been losing interest in the product and the empty arenas killed what was left. I've been impressed with the show though. Tyler Rust and Curt Stallion didn't do much for me but other than that it's been really enjoyable and has to be the product I'm enjoying the most right now. From what I've read I thought the general consensus was that NXT has continued to go downhill from its peak a few years ago but based on what I've seen since the end of last year that doesn't sound fair.
  17. I loved that match when it happened and remember being one of its biggest fans as the reaction was quite mixed. Been meaning to go back and watch all the TakeOvers from the beginning so I may see it again soon.
  18. Enjoyable show this week. I think NXT has been pretty solid lately, probably my number one wrestling show at the moment with AEW going through a bit of a dull patch. I definitely think Kross the master manipulator rather than Kross the silent monster is the way to go. It looked like Kacy landed on her feet to me as well. I don't think that was intentional. She's a very impressive athlete though.
  19. Looking at that list of guys over 40 in the men's rumble is quite telling. I picked a random rumble - 2003 - and noted that HBK and Taker were the oldest guys in that match at 37. However it's also worth noting that times have changed and wrestlers genuinely seem to be healthier and capable of longer careers these days. I think back to how broken down wrestlers in their late thirties/early forties used to look compared with the likes of Rey, Jericho, Shelton Benjamin and so on who continue to perform at a high level well into their forties. 50 is sort of the new 40 in wrestling in that sense. However, WWE's continued inability to create new stars and over reliance on over the hill part-timers can't be understated.
  20. Outrageous show. Felt truly monumental. Packed full of iconic moments. Only flaw for me was Taker/Brock - but that can be explained given his apparent concussion and in a weird way it all kind of made sense. Not sure if this is up there with the absolute best Manias for all round match quality but in terms of truly historic shows it was. Top tier.
  21. Yep, me too. Matches were moved to pre-show at 25 and 27 - not certain if Miz/Barrett last year was originally announced for the main card? Although they did bump an entire match as well. Anyway, makes no difference to me if it's on the pre-show or not now. It's all on the WWE Network. It's in front of the same crowd. Just the other side of the "credits".
  22. The Americans are number one contenders too. And Los Matadores. Four-way at Mania was announced on main event.
