  1. ....and Mark Stuart leaves practice after getting hit in the face with a puck, because of course. And the Wild and Flames keep. fucking. winning.
  2. Byfuglien out for a few weeks and now Bryan Little is going to miss a couple games. This season has been simultaneously awesome and a nightmare.
  3. This is not the time for the Jets to be losing games where they've outshot their opponents by 15.
  4. And Empire itself will probably be a shell of itself and terrible, but for now, I'm enjoying the heck out of it. It definitely has the feeling of a burn bright, fade fast kind of show.
  5. Empire is so ridiculous. Everyone's having affairs. Backroom plot after backroom plot. Stunt casting. So, so much stunt casting. Noami Campbell! Courtney Love! M. Emmet Walsh....? (But seriously....FREE GABOUREY SIDIBE! Like for real, her highlight this season has been having Luscious throw things at her) So many scarfs. Secret daughters that every one accepts at face value. Kids being thrown in the trash. I'm not even sure how to describe Andre and his wife's relationship. Kinda hot in a totally crazy way? I am enjoying myself immensely. The music is actually really well done. Pretty much all of Hakeem and Jamal's songs are pretty great, especially Jamal's. About the only exceptions being Hakeem's weird drip drop song and the one that sampled Money for Nothing (but did have back up dancers wearing TVs and microwave ovens on their heads, so it still becomes a plus in the end). Also, Taraji Henson in lingerie and a fur coat. God damn. I also love how she's the only one that seems to realize that she's in a soap opera and is acting accordingly. I am more of an Anika man, myself, though. Anyway, big recommendation, it's insane.
  6. If he has to go anywhere, the Raiders aren't a bad choice, at least he won't hurt them more than once every four years. Preferrably he'll stay, but I own Davante Adams in a dynasty league and wouldn't mind his looks shooting way up next year.
  7. Saul's the perfect guy to call too, he has experience in such matters.
  8. I'm also digging the heck out of Empire through two episodes, it's awesomely melodramatic, if a little too on the nose at times ("Is this King Lear now?"). They really need to give Gabourey Sidibe something to do though, such a waste of such a great actress so far. Terrence Howard treating her like shit better lead somewhere. I don't think the show has been hurt too much by network restrictions, like I've seen some people complain about, but it would be nice if this was on HBO so they could really cut loose.
  9. Sat down to watch Brooklyn 99, with plans to watch Last Man on Earth immediately after, and Hulu proceeded to spoil a pretty big plot point of Last Man while promoting it during an ad break. Thanks new media, thanks a lot. Side note, the last ep of Brooklyn 99 was pretty meh, pretty boring episode from an otherwise enjoyable show.
  10. Great game by the Jets in beating the Kings 5-2. Maybe the best they've played all year. Not sold on acquiring Stempniak, but he's a live body that can fill out the bottom 6. It's not been Columbus bad, but the Jets injuries this year have been ridiculous. The price to get him wasn't high either. Kilngberg is only 24, but has been kicking around the minors for 5 years and, while putting up decent numbers, hasn't seemed to be able to stick up on the big club for more than a couple games at a time.
  11. That picture does not look as vibrantly green and horrendously yellow as I remember from my lurker days. Either it wasn't as bad as I thought or my eyes have gotten so old that they've muted the colours naturally. Edit: NO ONE is allowed to make a black and blue/white and gold joke.

Yeah, but you seem like the least cynical, nicest dude around, so that's not surprising.

Sounds like such a fun loving bunch you watched this with. How anyone could find that line as controversial or worthy of pearl clutching is beyond me. I'd rather watch the Oscars with Cotton Mather's corpse. We have a low tolerance for schmaltz, which other than this and the usual overblown speech from the Academy president, this year's ceremony was mercifully low on. We were also impatient, because it was 10:30 and there was still 4 awards to give out (maybe 6, can't remember if they had given out the writing awards yet) and we just wanted them to hurry the fuck up. That line is my own personal beef. You have an entire movie to pull clips from and that's one you deem absolutely necessary? It's a terrible sentiment. Does it make you uncomfortable when males like Bob Dylan record You Belong to Me? I think you should write an angry letter to the Academy. I hate anything Bob Dylan records, so........yes?

But you decided to watched the Oscars, which is the epitome of self-important schmaltz. I love movies and I love ranking things. Last time I ever throw shade at the Sound of Music.

Oh I know, I was mostly just quoting you since you brought her up today. In my own roundabout way, I too was trying to compliment her. I just think the segment smelled wrong.

Her performance was really good, but it was such an unnecessary segment. The show was already going long at that point and I don't care if it's 50 years old, The Sound of Music has not exactly held up at being particularly important, beyond its popularity at the time. It was a really badly plotted out segment too; here's a couple minutes clip of medley of songs from the movie, followed by a few minutes of Gaga singing a medley of those very same songs. And honestly, after the performance of Glory not too long before (and the moving "I'm Not Going to Miss You" earlier in the telecast), it came off as being kind of trite. If they were going to do it, it should have been earlier in the telecast. Or they could have played up the "escaping tyranny" aspect of the plot, instead the clips made the film appear to be about a flighty lady with some particularly cheerful children. Including the line "and then you're married and you belong to him" in the clips was a huge mistake in 2015. I was pretty surprised to go online when I was home and seeing it raved about in multiple places. Everyone I was in the room with when it was on spent the whole time making dismissive fart noises. In summation; Gaga, great voice in a misplaced segment.

I don't know if I'd consider Keaton's performance subtle, it's actually pretty bombastic and theatre-y (for obvs reasons, obvs). I have no problem claiming its the best performance of the year, caveat being I have yet to see Foxcatcher and Selma.

Also, Birdman forever! Picked Boyhood on my ballot, figuring it'd split Pic and Director with Birdman, but am glad it went the way it did. Fuck Eddie Redmayne, though....damn. Keaton should have won, but literally any other nominee would have been fine.

Chris Pine can't even emote when he's actually emoting.
  21. Me and Tabe were discussing this show a couple pages ago. (Holy crap, just looked and it was all the way back on page 3. Before The Slap and piranesi's Locklear crush started dominating the conversation. Seriously guys, you got way too worked up about The fucking Slap.) It's not cancelled, AMC just announced it's coming back in the summer. Apparently its ratings were beyond abysmal, but AMC has no content past The Walking Dead and Better Call Saul once Mad Men finishes up, so that's what likely saved it.
  22. But seriously, if even a part of that is true, fuck Galette.
  23. And so begins the downfall of Drew Brees, human trafficker.
