I believe Marvel is going back to 4 movies a year after Secret War.
-
I never watched the Snyder movies, so I’m only familiar with some of the “discourse” and therefore may be off here, but there was definitely some stuff that seemed to clearly be pointed towards showing how different this Superman is from that one. Not in a negative or 4th wall, eye-winky way, but in a way that’s designed to let you know exactly who this Superman is.

I just finished it and it’s fucking great. Not perfect by any means, I’m sure there’s stuff I’ll nitpick on later viewings, but I loved it and can’t wait to see it again. It definitely has a couple of Gunn moments/touches, but it’s not Guardians.

I didn’t think she looked bad, but honestly she’s not in the movie that much and doesn’t have her wings that often when she is.

In hindsight, watching Riri’s conversation with Mephisto was similar to watching Brock end the Undertaker’s streak. I remember thinking “wow, they’re going to have Undertaker kick out of three F5s?” only to realize that wasn’t happening. Here, I was thinking “wow, how are they going to have Riri defeat Mephisto” only to realize they weren’t.

I had avoided spoilers, other than to hear that a lot of people thought the finale was amazing, which took my expectations too high. I usually don’t care too much about explanations/plot holes in comic book movies, but the whole “let’s add magic to your suit” was completely glossed over and vague. Mephisto casting was perfect. I missed the spoon reflection, but my daughter caught it and pointed it out. I agree with everyone who said Riri’s choice was completely in character, but as someone who hates One More Day with a passion, this ending left a bad taste in my mouth. At this point, she’s basically a villain and has not done anything actually heroic. I’m curious if it was a Disney thing that they never actually referenced Mephisto wanting souls, or if they thought that would make Riri’s choice look stupid.

Spoilered for unproven fan theory.

Apparently there’s a rumor Jensen Ackles is in the running for Gunn’s Batman. I got my CW actors mixed up for a minute and was briefly intrigued/excited about Wentworth Miller being the new Bruce Wayne.

FANTASTIC 4: FIRST STEPS - 7/25/2025
JonnyLaw replied to Dolfan in NYC's topic in "COMIC BOOK" MOVIES & TV
Introducing Franklin already is a real wild card, as that opens up a lot of different possibilities depending on where they want to go. I agree it feels like the trailers plus (Thunderbolts spoiler) are almost intentionally misleading us. I wouldn’t be surprised if the ending of this was almost Empire Strikes Back-esque, with Galactus and/or Doom triumphant and the F4 seemingly taken off the stage until a heroic return to save the day in Doomsday. I know Strange supposedly isn’t in Doomsday, but one potential story beat they could play with there is that Strange already had a bad interaction with one version of Reed Richards talking about the dangers of incursions, so another one showing up from a different universe should definitely gain his attention. -
Hence the “despite what D’Onofrio says.” IIRC, he’s the one who revealed that. Disney has the rights back to Daredevil from Fox, so I believe the argument was that Sony somehow had some rights to Kingpin as a Spider-Man villain. Since the Spider-Man moves are Sony co-productions, there shouldn’t be anything stopping Kingpin from appearing in those.

I don’t think anyone has mentioned this here, but apparently the MCU does not have a major panel at SDCC.

I read that right after I posted; shows how much attention I’ve been paying.

Marvel is going back to four movies a year in 2028, and someone named Jake Schreier will apparently direct whatever the mutant/X-Men movie is.

Oops, hit quote instead of edit.

I thought the middle third/half of Moon Knight was bad the first time I watched it, but on a rewatch binge, it wasn’t that bad. Perfectly mediocre. I have absolutely no desire to rewatch Secret Invasion. It really did feel like a Bendis comic in that it kinda referenced stuff from other movies/shows but basically ignored them and did its own thing poorly.
-
Hopefully nothing reaches “Secret Invasion” bad, but at least it was comic accurate in that regard.
-
I think it’s a little of this, combined with this being set in a world that already has some super-heroes, but presumably not your A-listers working together yet, combined also with Gunn liking the weird B/C guys.
-
I can easily see Seth Rollins as the annoying B-story distraction who plays a recurring role similar to GSP/Batroc. Frankly, he makes a lot more sense in that role in that movie than casting Esposito does. I’m a little surprise they recast and reshot things so Esposito would be that specific character instead of just casting him as a different character, making him the Serpent Society lead, and tacking on a scene or two showing him to be behinds things.

I think the same things could have been said about Morrison’s Batman, and Gunn has some Morrison tendencies IMO.
-
I’m interested to see additional movies are announced. IIRC, they only have F4, Brand New Day, and the two Avengers movies announced for the rest of this year and the next two years. With their reduced release schedule, they could wait until next year to announce a new slate, but that would be late for whatever gets released in summer of 2027. At the same time, this summer seems too early to announce things, so who knows.
-
It’s amazing how different the tone and vibe of this is to prior DC stuff. I can’t wait for this.
-
I’m curious as to what you think was a bait and switch.
-
I was a little pissed that I had mostly managed to avoid spoilers except for I thought it was really good, higher MCU stuff. A couple of questions/thoughts about the post-credit:
-
It still cracks me up that one of the Whitest Kids U Know and co-Director of Miss March has become a successful horror director.
-
That looks so fucking good.
