  1. From the first round thread: For one thing, the limb work in his matches is actually paid off now. Also, he's stopped doing dumbfuckery like busting himself open hardway with shoot headbutts. I voted Brock. It comes down to a handful of matches for both guys, and Punk/Lesnar was my MOTY, so there you go.
  2. It got him out of the first round. That's good enough. Anyway, I'll go ahead and say it. Someone who worked almost exclusively in tag matches shouldn't win this tournament. It's like voting a designated hitter MVP. Also, neither Bryan nor Cesaro have a spot as annoying as Goldust kneeling down and uppercutting his opponent as a back body drop counter.
  3. I was going to sit this one out, but this incredibly compelling argument has won me over. Anyone who can take a song as awful as Bad Medicine and make it awesome deserves to be in the Sweet 16.
  4. OK, that tears it. We need a terrible wrestling names tournament. Make it so, jae.
  5. It doesn't strike me as terribly controversial to say that working long singles matches is more demanding, both physically and psychologically, than working tag matches.
  6. I somehow got the board to go along with me in voting for Henry against Big Show in last year's tournament, but even I can't bring myself to pull the trigger for Mizark this time around. Henry as a terrifying heel is pretty much the best thing in wrestling. But he's spent most of the voting period as a smiling babyface when he wasn't on the injured list.
  7. For the record, I don't think it's true. My point is that even if I did, I would still rate Tanahashi above the Usos.
  8. When has Tanahashi ever shown the ability or inclination to step out of his own formula? Voted Uso. Assuming for the sake of argument that this is true, Tanahashi's formula is better.
  9. I think Bryan's sometimes inconsistent selling is more a reflection of Regal's influence than any desire to look more like a main eventer. You really need to break down the Regal talking point some time. Really write an essay on it with a bunch of matches cited. No one else seems to carry it. I see it more as a Bob Backlundish need to take a lot of a match in order to seem strong to overcome some of his obvious physical deficiencies. Sure, why not. I'll post it in the Regal thread at PWO once this tournament wraps up.
  10. I have to take a stand against the hidebound WWE tag formula. It's fine for chewing up minutes on Raw, but the Usos haven't really shown the ability or inclination to step outside that formula. Sweet 16 material should be made of sterner stuff.
  11. I think Bryan's sometimes inconsistent selling is more a reflection of Regal's influence than any desire to look more like a main eventer.
  12. The fact that a choad like Suwama made the second round is a national disgrace.
  13. Pretty impressive for a youngster like Colon to get inducted so early in his career.
  14. I like to imagine that whenever someone new comes up, Cena writes a promo that will lay bare all his weaknesses and completely kill his heat. He's the KRS-One of wrestling.
  15. Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know, rovert has never said that he personally was a fan of Devitt, just that he was highly regarded among his peers.
  16. Setting aside the ridiculousness of the question of the proper way to emote during a missile dropkick, I would argue that controlling one's body language while performing a high-risk maneuver is indeed an execution issue.
  17. Pretty amusing to see Mr. Athleticism Is a Crutch castigate a guy for not looking effortless in everything he does.
  18. I thought Okada not maining the Dome show was mainly due to the fact that the fans weren't buying Naito as a challenger.
  19. In addition to the aforementioned matches, I would include the Lesnar match, the I Quit match with JBL, the RVD match from ONS, the 2007 HBK matches, and the SS07 Orton match among Cena's career best. Beyond that, I think that working sprinty multi-man matches with multiple choreographed spots is significantly easier than working long singles matches.
  20. From the first round thread that was closed before I had a chance to respond: He's temporarily blocking out the pain because the advantage he gains from hitting the dropkick outweighs the damage he'll do to himself by performing it. And it's not like Bryan's limb selling is impeccable.
  21. My initial thought was that the Harris twins really let themselves go.
