I mean you never know when you may be called on to be a replacement referee, judge, or even a fighter at the very last minute. I mean look at last week's UFC. I think Joe Martinez had to go to the toilet for a hot minute and someone had to step in.

If there's one thing I've learned from the announcers in this thread, it's that "always bring your license" is their version of "always bring your gear." Not joking, either - this is all super fascinating to me, the only stuff I knew a little bit about was the Kentucky stuff Nikita mentioned (but probably only because it was a hot button issue at the time with Ian)

Edit: It's kinda coming back to me now that it might have had something to do with that Mickie Knuckles incident but I gotta Google it, I may be crossing streams

Paul Roma's wrestling school has produced some really good wrestlers though. Richard Holliday is the biggest name so far, but the Miracle Generation (Kylon King and Dustin 'Flash' Waller) are one of the best young tag teams on the indies.

    Lol that reminds me:

The city it's in almost shut Roma's school down a while ago!

He either made a mistake on the paperwork, or was trying to do some creative accounting, and so he registered it as an "adult entertainment" business. Which was fine - until they elected a new mayor, who immediately made it his mission to ban strip clubs and porno stores...

I think Roma ended up squashing it by running a charity show for free or something IIRC

I got paid. Also, a strip club in Boulder from 2006 -2013 is gonna be a little different.  The only truly awful musical time was when dub step got hot. That was unbearable.

Preach! I'm guessing you too hear "Wild For The Night" by A$AP and Skrillex in your nightmares?

It sucks. Audio has been an achilles heel with them forever. And somehow Collision and Rampage sounded fine.

Fully agree, but I'll extend a little grace this week - I'm sure the Turner folks are spread thin lately with NBA and NHL playoff assignments.

(I guess that makes Daily's kinda like the WCW Disney Nitros when Turner crew were busy with the Olympics in '96 - though I'm sure it's got more to do with TK being in town to do the draft).

Worse than Paul "Ricky Steamboat didn't have a good body, btw  I potatoed him once in MSG for not letting me get my shit in" Roma?

I've definitely told this story before, but Paul Roma came into my dad's bar like 5-10 years after last being on TV, and tried to big league him into drinks on the house so I've had a bad taste in my mouth ever since then

  7. Apologies for the back to back posts, but I didn't get to Collision/Rampage until last night - gotta add to the pile of love for the Chuck/Trent match. I never wanted that team to break up, but if it has to be done, at least we're getting killer matches out of it. (And look, the Bucks are gonna run outta challengers eventually, especially with the division being split somewhat thin with guys also doing Trios division stuff - the 2025 reunion hug will hit). I guess my only criticism, similarly to the Santana/Ortiz 'blowoff' a while back, is that I wish it were on Dynamite so it was seen by a wider audience (or even just opened Collision right after Swerve's promo - I think a bloody parking lot brawl like that would've surely snagged some remaining NBA eyeballs, or had heads turning in whatever bar left TNT on, or however you want to put it.)

AEW Double or Nothing 2024 will celebrate the five year anniversary of their first ever show, AEW Double or Nothing 2019.

I'm interested to see who'll be in Anarchy in the Arena with how wild the 2022 and 2023 versions were. That's become a signature match in AEW. Team Tony vs. Kazuchika Okada/The Young Bucks/Jack Perry?

I would be into that, but there's also part of me that believes they won't do one without Jericho involved so maybe something centric to this Big Bill/Learning Tree thing?

We can all be thankful you didn't start quoting Creed.

My Own Prison has a couple of good Alice in Chains/Soundgarden/Load-era Metallica-type cuts on it, and if you don't have at least some affinity for My Sacrifice as a wrestling fan, idk what to tell you - I will die on this hill!

Brandon Thurston's update on Nick Khan's stocks

    https://twitter.com/BrandonThurston/status/1784247544266059854

Lol at "His stocks have been listed since September" as though September is ancient history, and not less than a year ago, but ok.

I would bet on the truth on this being somewhere between the obvious Corporate Officer 1 "uh oh" reasons, and what Zen and Gregg said about cashing out while it's hot, and his tenure ending because the sale's done.

Khan's deal ends in August 2025, so it's certainly possible the thought process was simply based on all the things that could happen to the stock price between now and then: Netflix could become unhappy with the cost of RAW and exercise their parachute clause, the market itself could go insane (it's an election year, after all- not to mention they've got a candidate on the inside!) - anything is possible.

    Definitely fuck him still, though

Hager's really the only one who didn't get anything going on with him after the IC/JAS breakup! I mean yeah he saved Orange Cassidy once but that's it.

Right?? And even that was just a bone thrown cause they were in Oklahoma - was hoping the nice hometown pop would lead to something more substantial. I'm surprised they don't use him at least in a similar capacity to your Brian* Cages and Archers and Wardlows as a gatekeeper monster (especially after hyping up his undefeated shoot record so much in the early days).

Is Jericho just where AEW feuds go to die when they start petering out? "And here it lay, at home in its grave, at the feet of the reaper... the Widowmaker..."

I have been a fan of his since the first time I saw him on f'n Worldwide at 2AM in the white gear, but MY GOD he needs a 6-12 month Fozzy world tour in the worst possible way. He's always been great at reinvention, but I think part of why it usually worked well in WWE is that he would take these stretches of time off to make the audience actually miss him.

I fully respect and appreciate the fact that he wants to try and use what gravitas he has remaining to further elevate the shows/promotion. I think anyone who enjoys AEW, whether a fan of his or not, is sort of "indebted" in that way. But he has missed something like one Dynamite a year this whole time since day 1 - I think he's wrestled the most AEW matches of anyone on the roster besides Mox (someone fact check me please). Plus he's in the booth on Rampage!

All I'm saying is: lets take a breath or two before we go ruining Big Bill - why not slot Hager in that role and tie up some loose ends with the IC/JAS stuff??

  14. A Pakistani lady I used to see once told me the whole thing between them, I guess it runs so deep they actually have like a specific slur for Indians (which I can't remember, and wouldn't repeat even if I did). I also can't remember the exact year, but they were the same country until pretty shockingly recently (like the '20s-'30s or something like that). The Naughty Korea/South Korea comparison is pretty close

At one point when Ken Shamrock was in the WWF he wears a fake cast to a UFC event when he's cornering Lion's Den fighters

I was gonna say that one, but I'll go with HHH doing the same thing when he walked out with Mayweather to sell Brock breaking his arm w the kimura lock (I remember Justin Bieber and another kinda oddball person being part of that walk out too)

Also needs to drop that affect-UH that you hear a lot-UH nowadays where any word that ends in s hard-UH consonant-UH has a UH at the end-UH.

Dude, THANK YOU. I thought I was being overly critical (man). I love Mercedes, not a hater whatsoever, but it's nails on a chalkboard - It was like a 1999 HHH "I am the Game-uh" promo fed through an AI taught to use her voice by listening to a supercut of only her most awkward cutscenes from the 2K games.

Edit: Ha @The Naturalyou caught me typing - great minds and all that

I liked this show a whole bunch, and honestly, I have nothing to add that hasn't already been said by @Octopus- he's 100% right here; the only reason I had any apprehension about how this show closed was because of things done by completely different people, in completely different promotions, in completely different landscapes.

I looked at it again without the WWE PTSDemon on my shoulder, and honestly? It was everything I've been calling for in these threads lately. Big, chaotic, cliffhanger ending, announcers dropping the mics and letting the ambience be, locker room emptying out, Papa Shad selling that shit as only he can. It was probably the best non-match Dynamite ending since the Daily's residency earlier in the pandemic IMO.

    Also:

SERENA FUCKIN' DEEB. That's it, that's the paragraph.

I’m probably at serious risk of being doxxed if I share what exactly my function is, but in real life I file arbitration A LOT.

In addition to the obvious (private hearings as versus a public trial) there are, in my opinion, three other crucial reasons why Vince and his team would prefer this case be heard by an arbitrator:

    1) Arbitration awards, to my knowledge, usually expire after a stipulated amount of time depending on the jurisdiction and dispute forum. If the filing party (Grant) isn't able to collect from the respondent (Vince) within that period, and also isn't able to have the validity of the award confirmed by a higher court order in that period (which is often difficult not only due to the legal costs,  but also because judges don't like to step on arbitrators’ toes since many, if not most, are retired judges or prosecutors themselves) then guess what?? She gets nothing. A judge doing so has definitely happened a couple times in my specific field, but this is a much, much different animal.

    2) Again, depending on the forum, there's also a strong likelihood that Vince’s team would drag this case out F O R E V E R - the arbitration discovery process is not really what it is in the court system; It's more of what I would describe as a ‘tit for tat’ kind of thing. Unless there is an agreed upon time limit when parties enter into the agreement to arbitrate, or some other statutory limitation wherever this is heard (it may not necessarily be Connecticut due to the interstate stuff, but we’ll see what Vince's team argues) then he could easily just try to wait out the clock, and keep throwing shit at the wall (pardon the phrasing).

    3) Arbitration awards, to my knowledge, can't be enforced outside of wherever the dispute forum has jurisdiction (unless Vince were stupid enough to agree to international arbitration). So hypothetically, Vince could lose, and immediately flee to Antigua on the Sexy Bitch without any mechanism for her to collect, while he just, again, waits it out on the beach

This would not be a good thing.

i was just wondering if/when this was ever going to air. I remember last fall Corgan mentioned that he had signed for two shows on CW that were "Wrestling-adjacent". one was NWA POWERRR! and the other was rumored to be him focusing on his home life and preparing for his wedding. They actually got married back in September, so this obviously has been in the works for a while.

Same here, I remember we talked about it in whatever month's omnibus thread, but it was more in the context of if/how it would be affected by NXT moving there, whether it would be on their streaming app or regular ass channel 9, etc.
