  1. That's a really great photo, sorry to hear about your pal. Also, I think it's Chuck Taylor on the receiving end of that beer (or dog, as they'd say on his show)
  2. Way off topic but those SOBs just raised a bunch of their prices yesterday, including stamps which was the highest single increase of all time. So at this point, I'm just so pissed at them I'd be happier if Dave just sent a pigeon to my house
  3. I'm no prude but I'm getting real real tired of Finn's johnson
  4. Honestly fuck Ed Ferrara I can't stand that dude. The Oklahoma thing was classless and was a waste of time for Medusa and the CW title. And those fucking dreads in TNA blegh
  5. It probably wasn't my place to say that but this is a good ass conversation and I really wanna keep it going without anyone getting too hot my bad dude
  6. Spring Stampede 94 is probably the gold standard in my estimation, wrestle war 90, beach blast 92, there's a shit ton
  7. I'm almost out of likes for the day because there have been some really really great arguments on both sides of this one. Ultimately, a mix of both is something that would suit my personal tastes. A lot of it is the element of unpredictability I guess too and speaking strictly for myself I was much younger then so there is that sort of romanticism involved. But like For example Eddie's point, I loved every second of the Nitro hour 1 lucha matches and shit too but where I disagree is that I feel like the announce team discussing the NWO Sting, Flair etc. during them sort of added to everything. It had like almost the effect of seeming like they were shell shocked from whatever they did in the first segment or at the previous show. I don't know if it helped get them over with the world at large but it worked for young ass me. It's a formula I firmly believe WWE should be using today. Especially with the abundance of great workers they have. You can get an NXT or 205 or New signee over with the live a based on their work alone, get their faces on TV, and still further other things be it an angle or speculating on someone's motivations, character development, etc. It's a good system
  8. It would be near impossible to do live but I always thought a really great idea/challenge would be to write a wrestling show where anything that takes place outside of the ring is done in a single shot like when they storm the projects in season one of true detective
  9. When people today say they miss the attitude era, Im convinced it's not really about the blood or the cussing or the sex, but that crash TV format and fast pacing
  10. I got to thinking about this earlier after my joke reply about Charlotte/HHH -- Of course it happened (once on a 1998 Nitro or Thunder IIRC) but I wish there had been a full blown Hogan/Bret main event PPV match or program in the WWF. I feel like even with Hogan's limitations, it would've been highly watchable based on Bret's work with Diesel and even Bulldog at times, and of course we all know the legend of the Tom Magee match. I can't talk rationally about Bret.
  11. Then the finish of the match itself is HHH winning after Hogan inexplicably comes out and pins Ric, just for ol' times sake
  12. I'm really going to be sad to see her go. She had a great year. She got not only the loudest pop of the house show I saw her on, she got the loudest pop I've ever heard in that particular building except for Hogan. Apologies if this has already been discussed in the Japan folder, but apparently NJPW had to completely rearrange their US cards because they had issues getting visas for their guys due to the government shutdown here. I feel bad for the fans who bought tickets thinking they were getting top Japanese stars. That being said, a lot of the comments on NJPWs site and Reddit have been really uncool toward those they were able to have booked. Under any other name these would be good shows I feel like: https://www.njpw1972.com/42933?utm_source=hootsuite&utm_medium=&utm_term=&utm_content=&utm_campaign=
  13. I could buy maybe they are thinking more along the lines of a Hall and Nash situation (maybe) but there's like a zero percent chance Okadas TNA run is on their radar. Here's a fun story I may have told before: I worked for a company years ago that had a contract with WWE (Im being purposely vague as to not doxx myself). A WWE production staffer said to me outright, thinking I didn't know anything about wrestling "Even though we can't use pyro in (town), were not going to go with the green lasers. Our competition uses them. Well, they're not competition... at all, really, but... We're not going with the lasers." I think that probably sums up the level of attention paid to TNA at that time.
  14. Agreed. Two of the last matches without commentary I watched couldn't be more drastically different (Last Battle of Atlanta and that Ospreay/Ricochet NJPW match) and I felt the exact same way with both. I think it's sort of an unfair criticism just because we all know the situation with Vince in their ears at WWE. The WWE guys are good when they aren't over-produced (Mauro's great, Cole was great on Beast from the East and Evolution). Outside of WWE there's a steep quality drop off in my opinion (and that's not me being a homer, either, because I've always said that the late 90s WCW crew was my favorite, Dustyisms and all). J.R. unfortunately (and understandably) hasn't really been himself in NJPW and the less said about the Kevin Kellys and Josh Matthews and Matt Strikers of the world, the better. Tenay/Don West was such good/bad fun but that was like ten years ago now already. I don't watch a ton of Indies but when I do, most of the commentators sound like me as a 13 year old yelling "Oh shit dude, shades of Vader!" behind my dad's camcorder while two of my buddies roll around on the lawn. Wrestling needs good announcers, not no announcers.
  15. Good look! I was actually just considering signing up the other night after watching the Nigel doc and seeing the ad at the end. I had no idea there was non-TNA stuff on there really
  16. I was really into the idea of it too just because (and I've said it many times before) I just grew so tired of the traditional arena presentation and people were saying it was supposed to be like a modern Wrestling At The Chase or something, which I've only ever seen in that weird Bob Costas doc
  17. Re: the HBO talk, wasn't this sort of like what that Jeff Katz' Wrestling Revolution project was supposed to be? I know there was the whole thing where the footage wasn't usable allegedly but I mean in it's infancy, when they were talking about possibly trying to make a deal with AMC I feel like this was sort of the concept.
  18. I'm a little out of the loop on Barrett-- has he done anything besides the GM role on WCPW? I haven't seen anything about him working matches anywhere
  19. It's been a real pleasure. I don't know exactly how long I've lurked here (probably since high school, though I remember when I was in college I remember someone here had a pretty cool signature that said "I remember when wrestling was fun-- it was 2007") but it always seemed like this was the place to be.
  20. Also very sorry to hear about what Sullivan is dealing with. Not to get too personal, but I've been going through panic attacks for like a year and a half, and although they've leveled off with the help of medication, every day is still tough. Like for example, one effect is that I'm constantly dizzy-- if I can't even walk around normally, I cant see myself going out and working a match, especially something that high profile. I wish him the absolute best.
