Not sure how doing this over and over is preferable to him just expressing his position at this point.

I honestly am surprised the main event didn’t draw better, and I thought I’d joke about Wheeler. I personally went to bed because of the time I have to be up for work, but it was the first thing I watched tonight (and it was better than I’d anticipated).

The only thing I can think of that might have hurt the ratings some is the Mets-Yankees game last night. I know that series always draws some of the best ratings in baseball.

I’m a sucker for anytime ZSJ and Ishii wrestle. I don’t think those are generally considered among his “best” matches by the consensus, but they’re  a great match of opposites, and it really highlights what Zed does best.

I somehow forgot Ishii earlier. He definitely needs to be booked on Forbidden Door.

Why main event a show with Wheeler Yuta? He’s clearly a ratings killer, and not worthy of interacting with actual main event talent. Especially after being put in every position to succeed. And would you look at that Adam Cole in Q2 drew almost 200,000 more viewers than Mox. But isn’t Mox and his razor blade a “huge draw”?

(And yes I’m kidding. I fully agree with @Matt D that nothing matters, and we should be happy).

Who else isn't booked yet but will probably be booked?

    Mox? The Bucks? Hangman? FTR?

In March Wardlow told be his dream opponent in NJPW is Jeff Cobb...that would be a total banger.

We're probably getting some AEW vs NJPW matches the night before on Collison too.

    I'M SO EXCITED!!!

Based on who you listed I wouldn’t mind Mox vs Yano. There’s definitely a backstory, and it would be fun. Or Mox and Shooter vs The Bucks? FTR I could see being in a six man with Punk but I don’t know who they’d face. Could Swerve vs Hiromu be booked?

I think Wardlow should definitely get his dream match too. That would be excellent.

We need Sting and Darby Allin teaming up. Sting/Darby Allin/Shingo Takagi vs. Matt Jackson/Nick Jackson/El Phantasmo was my favourite match of Forbidden Door 2023.

Would you accept Sting/Darby vs Jay White/Juice Robinson? I get that Bullet Club Gold isn’t NJPW, but I don’t see them leaving Jay off the card.

E was an FCW trainee, like Roman, though.

On the men’s side of things, probably the biggest “from scratch” PC success has been…Braun Strowman. Which really says a lot.

I knew E was FCW. I thought he was being counted using the Roman idea.

If things hold up I think Montez Ford will be the biggest success (at least until Bron hits the main roster) as far as PC only trainees go.

Jericho’s talked about enjoying working with Jacobs in the past IIRC in WWE, so take that however you like.

If I remember correctly he either came up with or helped pitch The List of Jericho. Which definitely made for great tv (and the awesome Festival of Friendship).

Oh it would, I'm just a greedy git wanting instant gratification ;). Problem was the wrong word to use.

I like seeing greed. I’m with you that when it comes to those two that we should get a minimum of 20-25 minutes of action.

Big disagree with you (and your mother, sorry!). Those boots are incredible, like something Vince Noir would wear in the Mighty Boosh and sit perfectly with Jericho's faded rock idol/Rex Manning esque character.

Did anyone else see the word No appear on screen during the 8 man? Intriguing.

I’ll be intrigued if either tomorrow or Saturday night they have another word randomly appear during a Picture in Picture break. I’ve read it was a goof, but also speculation it means something (I’m leaning with the later myself).

If they aren't going to run PPV monthly or bi-monthly,  the best option would be to run a PPV on weekend of holidays.  I mean wouldn't it be great if Forbidden Door was this weekend since probably half of the audience with regular jobs won't work this Monday.  Then you can make them 4 or 5 hour shows

Don’t they usually run on Presidents Day (Revolution), Memorial Day (Double or Nothing), and Labor Day (All Out)? Meaning the only non holiday ones are Full Gear and Forbidden Door?

I’m not sure what holiday they could use for Full Gear as Thanksgiving isn’t until Thursday(s), and Forbidden Door could be the weekend of July 4th except for some years like this one the holiday falls on a Tuesday so most people won’t have the day before the holiday off.

I’m with you that if they can figure out how to do it, I’d be in favor of it.

  11. I still have to watch the last half hour as I fell asleep, but based on what I’ve seen this felt like a classic episode of Dynamite.

A great opening match (I’d still rank Omega-Bryan or Hangman-Bryan 2 as the best opener in Dynamite history), with my only nitpick being they really should have explained the finish better. I liked Taz questioning it, and suggesting Cole can’t get another shot, because a draw isn’t a win, but having Schiavone get clarification from Khan later on in the night would have felt important. How often does he get random messages from Tony Khan on air? And I’m sure that match will be the lowest rated segment (never mind that the opening segment never is).

I thought the Sammy promo segment was strong too, and I can’t help but wonder who told Jericho those boots were a good look? Even my mom couldn’t believe how bad they looked.

The 8 Man tag was certainly a spectacle too, and I honestly did buy The Mogul Embassy winning off of the triple powerbomb stomp spot. It’s always good to see Sting deliver too.

I thought Wardlow-Hager was as good as we can get from the two big guys, and it offered the perfect setup for Collision.

The women’s match overdelivered in my opinion as I’ve not seen a lot of Skye Blue, and they both did a great job of keeping the crowd involved.

The additions to Forbidden Door have guaranteed AEW will be getting my $50 no questions asked too. When Sanada-Jungle Boy is the weakest match announced you know it’s a special show.

you are correct. Affleck was in BvS and Justice League and wasn't bad.

i just watched the trailer on youtube- i don't think i'd ever even seen it before. but i think i was just tired of the "dark & gritty" take on Batman. Looks like it reviewed decently (72 on metacritic, 85% on RT), but doesn't really look like something i'm interested in. Plus, was that the Riddler? he's arguably my favorite Bat villain, but i don't love the take that he's some gimp mask wearing terrorist dude.

It is the Riddler and @Craig H definitely summed his character up perfectly. I love how Paul Dano played the part, and Colin Farrell was excellent as The Penguin too. It probably could have trimmed 15-20 minutes off the run time, but it never really drags.

only ones i didn't watch in theater were Batman Begins (i couldn't stand the look of the Bat Tank Tumbler. still hate it) and The Batman (Affleck? nah.)

well, and Batman '66. i don't recall that ever being re-released. i'd be first in line if it did.

only Superman Returns (2006) and BvS for me.

The Batman was Robert Pattinson. I enjoyed Affleck in the ones he stared in, but I actually preferred Pattinson.

It's just something Drew fixates on.  He's admitted that.  He's a decent poster.  I like to think I'm okay-ish, but I struggle to let it go, for example, when JR says something stupid or when MJF cuts a shitty crowdbaiting promo.  We all have those little things that bug us and might post too much about.  There's a little just drew in all of us.

I think most of us tend to keep it in line better though. Like you I’m not big on those parts of MJF’s promos, but I don’t make a point to rail on it weekly or claim it will be the lowest rated segment.

Drew tends to troll harder than necessary, and it feels like he’s working a silly gimmick that only Cornette’s cult would get behind.

worried that the sixth spot in the Women's MITB might end up going to whichever of Charlotte/Bianca loses on Smackdown.

They’re not fighting each other though unless WWE announced something this weekend. Plus Raw still needs their third.

    All absolutely true.

The issue they will have is ret-conning the history of the unified title so that Roman's name can go up with Hogan's, Backlund's & Sammartino's.

Unless he holds this unified title for another 1000 days (or they merge the history & try to delete the likes of McIntyre, Lashley, Big E from history) there will always be an asterisk next to his reign.

As @AxB pointed out there’s an asterisk by all of them. None of the title reigns are based on anything but the bookers choice. So to put Roman up with the other names will be done as it’s still under the same corporate umbrella. I could see if he’d had 1,000 days as ECW champion working under Heyman that they’d not count that since it was a separate company but this has all been WWWF/WWF/WWE history.

  17. 6 hours ago, L_W_P said:

I wonder if Reigns had been out longer and didn't come back until his WWE Title win, 500-odd days ago, if they still would have held off on Cody.

I feel like Roman getting to 1000+ days as champion (and potentially going past everyone bar Bruno & Backland) is something they really want to have happen... eeeeven though he would be the UNIVERSAL champion for 1000+ days, NOT WWE champion and to merge the history of the titles is going to be clunky/ugly AF* and they clearly didn't plan on having such a historic run otherwise Roman would have won the WWE Title to start with.

This is why having two world champions is dumb.

I think part of why they did it that way (him getting the Universal title first) is Raw had a better roster when he returned and Smackdown had basically just Bray and Strowman as their main guys. So giving him that belt made sense, because he’s obviously viewed as a bigger star than both of them, and he’s someone FOX wanted on their show.

And to me it makes no difference which one he’s hit 1,000 days with. Either way he’s been heavyweight champion for that amount of time, and his belt has been presented as the main one (or two after he beat Brock). I think it’s just something silly that the bookers did so they can try to claim he’s better than Cena, Austin, Rock, and Hogan. Personally I’d only take him over one of those four.

“Hey boss, I don’t want the World title.”

”Great! That doesn’t fit my plans anyway. Hangman literally just won the title and I’m using you to establish his 7 month reign/MJF’s story is over the course of a year due to the Bidding War of 2024 story and can’t lose on the second defense anyway.”

    - A completely plausible conversation that happened between Danielson and TK

And what exactly is the fictional bidding war of 24 story doing for anyone? It makes AEW look like they’re a minor league company. You won’t ever see Roman come out on Smackdown winking at the camera, declaring his love for Tony Khan, and speaking in circles about how if Triple H doesn’t play the game correctly he’ll jump to AEW.

With the Rocky 3 deal, his position was he’d do it if Tony wanted it. Same deal here. I know people love to hate him, but now we’re dinging him for being a company guy. Like take a breath.

If you don’t want to be champ you tell Khan that. Bryan has, and clearly Punk hasn’t. But yes he’s a “company guy”.

  20. 4 minutes ago, John from Cincinnati said:

“Punk should be volunteering to lose,” my god we’re stretching here. Especially when the other side of the story is Mox was the one pulling the “doesn’t work for me, brother” card.

My comment was actually about when he wrestled Hangman. If he truly didn’t want to be champ he’d have did that. Hell Cody did it with Jericho, Bryan has done it with Hangman, Mox, and MJF.

  21. 14 minutes ago, Casey said:

He lost to MJF in Chicago, what are you even talking about? I’m sure your response will be, “but wait, it wasn’t a clean finish!” but he still LOST to MJF in Chicago. People didn’t see that coming, and the crowd sure didn’t. Plus it was a great match, too. I’d argue that Punk did more for MJF than Cody or Jericho did, but that’s just me.

And even the Observer said that the story that Punk was originally going to lose to Hangman but was pressuring TK to change the finish is untrue. And it’s not like Meltzer or Alvarez like to carry water for Punk or something. They verbatim say that TK wanted the title on Punk.

Also, bias source, but Dax said Punk never wanted the title and was content just doing fun feuds and matches. Which tracked at the time, up until All Out when the narrative around Punk suddenly shifted because he went off on the Elite at an internet presser seen by like 15k (maybe) at the time.

He lost to MJF which helped build up to his PPV win over MJF. But we’re supposed to overlook that right? Just like how I’m sure if he didn’t have his meltdown at All Out that Full Gear was ending with him beating MJF again. As for saying he did more for MJF than Cody did that’s not hard. Cody had the one good tv segment, then he lost in less than decisive fashion. I personally feel like the two guys Cody did the most for were Darby and Brodie Lee.

So what if he didn’t pressure Khan? That still doesn’t say he offered to or was willing to lose to Hangman. Bryan’s made it clear he doesn’t want the belt and Khan respects that so if Punk were as giving as you claim he’d have politely declined it too.

Dax says anything that will give him, Cash, and his boy (Punk) even the smallest bit of shine. So I’m glad you admit he’s a biased source. How do you figure only 15K saw the presser? Within a day it would’ve had more views than that (especially being on Labor Day weekend). And no his wanting fun feuds and matches doesn’t track. He (Punk) has bitched about working Hangman, he didn’t like working Mox, and that’s his whole run as champ. But yes please give me more examples of him being selfless or his drunken former podcast pal saying he’s a “Saint”.

Wait, if you don't see Rocky, you get to be champ?

... AM I THE NEXT AEW CHAMPION?!

Since I’ve seen Rocky (including the awful Rocky 5), but I’ve never seen Creed do I get to be the next AEW International Champion? Heck I’m the same age as the current champ, and I’m seven inches taller than he is so I’m sure I’d be believable.
