  1. On Darby, and I've noticed this a few times with Darby in particular, why did they play his music when he came down from the crowd? Surely Darby sprinting down the stairs and just appearing in ring to make the save would have been more impactful? Don't get me wrong, I love Darby's music but that delay between music starting and wrestler appearing can take me out of a moment.

  2. Enjoyed that immensely. With the exception of Hardy over Sammy every result either went the way I wanted it (OC, Shida, MJF, Darby) or I understood and could see the storyline reasons for going the other way.

Some things I loved and haven't seen mentioned:

sad Hangman lurking in the tunnel

    MJFs light up robe

"now that's what I call a squash job"

    Sammy running away from things

    Silver ripping out OC's pockets

    Silver's 1 arm gorilla press slam ?

If there were full arena crowds now, they'd be forced into doing a Dark Order dissension angle by the fact that they're a heel faction but Silver is over as a top face.

I could imagine a huge "Johnny Hungie *clap clap clap clap clap*" breaking out during his shine spot in the 4 way tag match alright.

  4. Watched this on FITE app, sound was odd throughout (sped up or something since everyone's voice went up an octave). Also think it's missing some segments since it's only 94 mins long and I didn't see the hangman backstage bit.

Good show, agreed with others that the story progression was better than the in ring. The Swole match was not pretty!

Loving dark order and the continuing turmoil of Colt Cabana. Alan Angels getting to show some personality. Its starting to click for them now.

Santana and Ortiz had a great promo, nice set up for the Battle Royale with Starks-All in, Cage-Archer plus Eddie Kingston and friends.

Would have liked to see Kenny Omega tonight involved in the Hangman story.

Sammy-Matt had plenty of blood and the right person won, but along with Dustin I'm not sure Matt, as he is now, can go-go-go the way the house style tends to demand in AEW.

  5. That final match/segment was awesome. Had looked up for a second after the lariat expecting Cody to kick out. Did not see the win coming that quickly or decisively even though I had an inkling Lee might win. His jacket tonight was a big improvement on the old robe, better fitting - he looks boss! When Brandi came out I wondered would Brodie lay hands on her, glad to see Anna Jay get a chance to shine instead. All aboard the Dark Order train, thought Silver, Reynolds and Angels all put in good showings too.

Speaking of which, I'm intrigued by Kenny Omega. I really see him joining forces with FTR leaving Hangman to reluctantly team with the Bucks going forward. The story between all 3 teams is really being played well.

Future looks bright in AEW with some nice recent acquisitions, both King and Starks had some quality promos and think Starks - Allin could be a really good match.

I could do with less Natural Nightmares, they don't do anything for me. QT looks bemused out there and doesn't sell well. Dustins destroyer looked very sloppy, he shouldn't be wrestling these high tempo matches.

MIMOSA MAYHEM BAY-BAY!!! This could be brilliant or terrible with nothing in between. The video hyping it was hilarious.

  6. Bit of a come down after last week's show. Was let down by the main event which is a pity as I've been loving the feud and they're 2 of my absolute faves in AEW. Throwing the "will he, won't he" referee angle didn't work for me. Maybe if they'd made more of a deal out of the Inner Circle being banned from ringside, and talking up the wily veteran and master strategist that Jericho is would have helped. Really glad OC got his big win, but felt flat with the rushed ending.

The tag team appreciation bit dragged. Could see FTR using the knee brace to attack almost immediately, but I did think that Spears was going to get involved. The aftermath was weird as well with the Bucks selling confusion rather than anger.

Sometimes Jungle Boys offense has me really worried about his neck, like the weird knee bump off Luchasaurus' shoulders to a flip. That didn't leave him much space to rotate. I did enjoy his falling clothesline to Omega sitting down. I want to see more of those vicious moves from him because he brings real energy to them.

Uno's gear is weird, and there's no link between his gear and Grayson's but I really enjoy them as a team. Their match with the Bucks was my favourite this week. Stu Grayson is a maniac!

Bravo to whoever spotted the MJF - Samoa Joe call back. I like that Moxley isn't made to look an idiot and just outsmarted MJF. I found the tender way that Wardlow held MJF's hand afterwards both touching and hilarious.

Eeeugghh - I hate Cody's entourage, especially for a minimal build against someone whose wins have come on Dark. Also, the door gimmick for Sky made no sense, he kicked it out from the side that was "no admittance" meaning he was already where he wasn't supposed to be ?

    "LISTEN UP YOU SHORT MOTHERFUCKER!"

    I fucking died.

As always, the Dark Order shit is the best. Uno, Brodie, Silver, everyone is hilarious. "You fuckin' throw like a BITCH!"

I laughed so hard at "and FUCKING barbecue sauce!".

  8. Well that was all lovely. Loved how things wove together and just flowed: dark order winning the 12 man led the Braver boys to think it was their night; the set up of Sue's minivan to the match to the vandalism and then the revenge promo (also ties into Best Friends saving OC); Mox promo to MJF promo to MJF interference. Just simple effective stuff.

I feared the debate but it was a delight. My intelligence never once felt insulted.

Great night for wild bumps - Stu Grayson and Darby both with some serious air time tonight.

  9. Just finished the show. As @Godfrey rightly points out, Starks should get a nice little bonus for the skateboard shot because that looked all kinds of nasty. Cage looked impressive, the Mox/Darby catch looked great! Agreed with @RolandTHTG about Taz on commentary. Loved how naturally he flicked between Taz the manager and Taz the commentator ("I'm trying to be professional here")

  10. I'm about halfway through the show so far. Some things I liked:

There's 4 potential feuds in the opening match (jericho/oc, best friends/PNP, Lucha/hager and most intriguingly sammy/JB) that would deliver. So why is Matt Hardy involved? Did enjoy sammys reaction though. Sammy has a perfect "oh shit" face when he gets himself in trouble like landing in the middle of 5 opponents.

"smells like cat pee, Tony" - love that Ortiz!

I dig Warhorse's character. Can't say I've seen him wrestle but I like that he sticks to the headbanging Mid-match. Small things like that make me smile. Plus he looks a lot like Bobcat Goldthwait to me, which adds to it.

Arn joining up with FTR was unexpected. Presumed Tully would have joined there. Page made that segment!

Tag title match was good stuff, the Grayson dive over the top looked unique as hell. He has something about him. If Ciampa can be a big star in NXT, think Stu has a role to play. Big laugh from the moment I saw the papers in Brodies hand ?

Look, JR ain't my cup of tea but he was really bad tonight (to my tastes). Not least his weird comments about Anna Jay, and his rant about Covid, "look I have my mask" like a petulant child. He's detracting from the product for me. Sad, because I loved his calls when I was younger.

    Utopia

The Amazon Prime version of the Gillian Flynn British show

Kept waiting for, "where is Jessica Hyde?" or "hello matey". I love love loved Utopia on Channel 4, so much so that my cousin (who works for Channel 4) started blanking me at family events because I'd just keep asking, "when is season 3 coming?". I'm intrigued by this, mostly because of Gillian Flynn being on board so I'm hopeful that it keeps the spirit of the original while doing its own thing. And hopefully we get an actual conclusion this time. Also, the them tune for the original was an absolute bop!

  12. Enjoyable from the off tonight. Y'all have covered the greatness of Eddie in detail but Cody brought it too tonight. Much less heeling from Cody tonight.

Really expected a "who the fuck is gruff garrison" from MJF. Surprised he didn't mention that it was Wardlow who lost the tag match.

Page is so good as a shit talking, badass face. They've really got something with him. Did Colt's t shirt say "Cult Cabana" or did I imagine that? John Silver really is a thicc little boy, isn't he?

Throughout the falls count anywhere match I just kept thinking that from a distance, in the white jeans, Blade bears more than a passing resemblance to Joe Talbot from IDLES (my absolute favourite band, hence my user name). I much prefer their look in white it must be said. Butcher looked a beast here.

Archer looked great in his little segment, wanna see what's next for him.

Great vicious sneak attack from Ricky Starks, he really came from nowhere. I'm intrigued by the dynamic between Mox and Darby.

Fun tag to end the evening, but I actively dislike how much JR talks up Hager constantly as though he is this undisputed star above everyone else, because Jake has not shown nearly enough to be treated in that way.

  13. Enjoyed the hell out of this. Lots of stories developing, and while I can see paths I can also see numerous ways each of those paths can go and intersect with each other.

Thought Cody pushed more towards asshole tonight, and with Tully noticeably watching on and Arn getting cranky it suggests heel turn a-coming. Maybe he gets too cocky in one of these challenges, loses and snaps? Sonny brought some good intensity and there were some nasty shots and bumps. Good stuff.

I still can't get a handle on who FTR are and what there characters are. Are they old school, too cool for school, or expelled from school (to really stretch a metsphpr). I don't want to cheer them, but don't want to hate them either. They've got presence though and plenty here like them so I'll give it time. Penta and Fenix don't hold back on those chops, do they? Were they Non-alcoholic beers at the end and is that why FTR dumped them? Kenny is sober, right?

Jericho was immense all night. As mentioned, perfectly on the spot for the juicing. His "Khaaaaaaan!" - esque shouting of whoever has wronged him is awesome. "I'm sticky!" his casual shout out to pineapple Pete. Loved it all.

Thank you @kenyabaxterZXW for the Ortiz gif. Him holding onto Jerichos legs while still flopping in the juice was *chef kiss*

Marko takes incredible bumps, jungle boys intensity has increased dramatically and I love it. Like what they did with Kenny, give me more of that Kenny please.

I dig the story they were telling in the title fight but the ending fell way flat for me. Good to see Darby back, hope it means he's in the clear on any allegations of wrongdoing because I like his stuff and would hate to feel icky watching him.

Quick thoughts breezing through Night 2.

Opening tag was fun. Glad it was a brisk match and didn't drag. Archer/Janela - great seeing Kiss used as a punching bag at the beginning, then later getting some revenge when Jake distracted the ref. I'd almost swear this is Jake's second time distracting the ref during a match to give Archer's opponent a couple of cheap shots. Could be wrong.

Not wrong at all dude, the same thing happened in the title match with Cody. I was thinking that too when he was distracting the ref. I'd rather Archer go alone, because I think Jake detracts from him. He's an old dude who can't walk very comfortably making decisions that seem confused. Why is Archer putting up with that. Not a massive fan of Arn with Cody either. During the build up to the Cody-archer match I hated the "confrontation" between Jake and Arn, especially when they were squaring up to each other. I just found it sad that these 2 old guys were trying so hard to relive past glories and trying to present that they were still as tough as the young guys.

Archer is just so tuned into his character, it’s scary.  He always knows where to find the camera, and the camera loves him.

This x 1 million! He's just constantly jaw jacking into the camera and I love it!

Felt like the tag title match was gonna lead to some sort of an angle, but nothing. Decent match, but no Hardy/Bucks/FTR involvement, no teasing dissension between the champs. Felt flat since the result was never in doubt.

Both "big announcements" fell flat for me. I'd much prefer to see Cage squash some fools than this.

That 8 man was good shit. Super destroyer was wild! Finish was nice, surprised we got the handshake afterwards, expected the usual "you kicked me accidentally, now this means war".

Stu Grayson brings it every time I see him. Would love if his ring fear matched his "mini-Bane" out-of-ring gear though, much better look.

Loved the main, thought OC should get the win but as someone (sorry, forgot to note the name) mentioned, he'd stood tall 2 weeks running so wasn't happening. Hope this feud runs longer. Best Friends vs Proud N Powerful could be a fun feud.

Speaking of theme music, don't know how popular this will be but my favourite AEW themes are Chris Jericho's, MJF and Best Friends.

Darby's theme is a banger, and fits the character. Kenny's has grown on me. Hangman's works really well for his character. Also love Best Friends, same as yourself.

LOOOOOOOOOOOL I did not understand a word of that sentence.  That's some video game stuff, right?  How's that fit with his gimmick?  Rhetorical question; I have no idea what his gimmick is because nothing fits.

I like the "AEW Fashion Watch" we all have going on in here and fully endorse keeping it going.

On the fashion watch, I said it a few weeks ago - Private Party need a gear change immediately. They look way too skinny and unthreatening and cheesy. They look so much better in their out of ring gear and seem more like guys who do attend exclusive parties and actually look cool (or at least what a 38 year old Paddy, me, assumes to be cool).
