  1. As a father, I sympathize with Dragon wanting an early bedtime.

I’m such a maybe on this event. The Ironman and Texas Death are enough to get me to want to, but things are tight right now and although I can swing it, I might prefer to get a few things done tomorrow because I’m lazy today. 🤷🏻‍♂️
If Dragon wins and I don’t get it, I’ll be pretty pissed. But I think MJF is the right move to make.

Ironman matches are my favorite stipulation. I love them because they are a great puzzle. There is built in drama as the clock winds down. They have the end in mind, but how do you get to that end along the way? A certified wrestling genius like Dragon is going to have a lot of fun putting it together. As tedious as he is on the mic, I love MJF in the ring. He is a great sleazeball for a match like this who can add in all sorts of fun shortcuts for falls.

I feel like we’ve been agreeing a lot recently. I’m very glad to have read this. I love the Ironman stipulation. I feel like I’ve been hearing more negative thoughts on the concept Ironman matches  (which is a valid opinion) but I’ve always really enjoyed them.
I love the aesthetics of the sports like graphics. Having a timer counting down and a score next to the names. The drama created by leads and the time running out.
With long matches (especially guaranteed long matches) can get boring but when you have master craftsmen working a story, it can truly be mesmerizing.

  3. Funk at that bar and then doing a shot with him would have been a great moment.

It sounds like everyone in the Pinnacle excluding Max felt the same way. Shawn Spears tweeting that it was “DOA”. It was very much a group of MJF’s side pieces more than a faction of equals.

I enjoyed his thoughts on the layout of the feud with Inner Circle. The faces getting instant retribution hurt the heels credibility. Personally, I think you can have the rivalry go back and forth, but you do need the villains to violently get the advantage more and maybe space things out better. One thing I felt at the time was I wasn’t into how quickly after Blood and Guts we had the Inner Circle Bubbly Truck bit. Dax sighted it as Jericho needing his Sport Entertainment moment. Retroactive fantasy booking: Sammy feels guilty about surrendering and the rest of the group (excluding an injured and absent Jericho) tells him they love him and he did what he felt was right out of love and they’re buds. Jericho returns and tells Sammy he is proud of him and they’ll get revenge. Bam, that’s an extra two weeks of selling the previous big match and the heels can maintain heat by being mean. Then you get Bubbly. So many great heel moments were quickly negated or equalized to keep the faces strong. I will say, I did love the locker room beat down when I watched it on tv. Could have spaced it better. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I really relate to Dax. As a creative person, when I put my heart into a group project that I’m excited for but don’t agree with the direction of, it is easy to be bitter about it.

It feels like the main wrestling creative contributors to the feud was Jericho and MJF. Which for better or worse does make sense for we’re they were envisioned on the card. It was a continuation of MJF vs Jericho that has been brewing since MJF joined the Inner Circle.

  4. I want to see an awkward F-5 on Omos. I am pro this weird decision. Omos is big and scary and him trash talking Brock and maybe getting thrown around for hopefully 5 minutes will be a wonderful visual.

Sadly, if Brock faced Gunther it could possibly be a great fight but I’d be surprised if Brock lost. Keep Gunther strong until you’re ready to bump him up to a championship feud.

I liked the dq finish to Bobby v Brock. But I don’t like it as a feud ender. Maybe the awkwardly pick it back up after beating their Wrestlemania jabronis.

    If the WWE does not

    • Hold steadfast to the fact that Dom is Eddie Guerrero's kayfabe son
    • Bring in Vickie to teach Dom the ways of his biological father
    • Have Dominick wrestle as Dominick Guerrero and rip off Eddie's moveset (poorly)
    • Use this to set up an intergender Rey vs. Rhea Custody of Dominick Ladder Match

then they are absolute cowards of the highest order.

and option 5, finally be able to hold a trios tournament to see who the greatest wrestling family is, The Family Jewel

Guerrero - Dom, Chavo, & Edge

Colons - Carlito, Epico, & Primo

    Anoa’i - the Usos & Solo

Fifita - Tama Tonga, Tanga Loa, & Hikuleo

Von Erich - Ross, Marshall, & Lacey

Rotunda - IRS, Bray Wyatt, Bo Dallas

Dudleys - D’Von, Bully Ray, and Spike

Rhodes - Cody, Goldust, & Rhodes Dogg

(If you can make a deal with Tony, try and book 3.0 - Daddy Magic, Cool Hand Ang, and their son Daniel Garcia. I’m also sure you can round up a bunch of block head Andersons to throw in there).

  6. The concept of the MJF vs Danielson feud is very interesting, but the execution didn’t hit as hard. MJF resents the world for his break up and hates Danielson risking his health while he has everything Max wants in life. Hates him for wrestling every week and crippling his body, but the heel contradiction being that Bryan was wrestling weekly as a stipulation set up by MJF. That is a good twist to a dynamic of “you have to win each match I set up” storyline that has been done a few times already. It feels weird that a few weeks before the actual event Danielson has earned his shot and is seemingly not going into the match as battered. Also, we get super villain car crash IM A HEEL promo as the build throughout. Did they come up with the explanation for Maxwell’s distain mid-feud? The pieces were there for fantastic storytelling but really falls short of previous rivalries we’ve seen MJF have.

Match booking-wise, smart to have Dragon as the first big opponent. Especially building with great Danielson matches to show how special of a talent he is. MJF’s win in an Iron Man match against who is as highly acclaimed as a great wrestler is an easy move to make. Maybe he beats Hangman or Moxley next. Or even a returning CM Punk. Lose to super baby face like Cole or Kingston or Daby or Wardlow or whoever you want to be the face of the company.

Or give Danielson the win for @The Natural
    ——-

Andretti involvement sounds like was a Jericho call while Ricky was the plan in motion. Maybe they team as Starketti? I’m not really too interested in all of this but hopefully Starks’ profile rises.

    ———

Can you have a Texas Deathmatch not in Texas or is it such a signature gimmick that it can be held elsewhere? Regardless, really cool stuff and I hope no one gets hurt.

    ——

Give me more Samoa Joe murdering smaller people and being the king of tv. I think he loses here though. We’ll see if there is a go home promo for it.

    ——-

I’m very interested in the Women’s title match. Big opportunity for each person to shine. I really hope for a great match. I would have like Toni in the Saraya spot, but a part of me is hoping Saraya hits it out of the park after a shaky start with the company.

  7. I love the brand of RoH. I’ll be honest, I dipped out during the TV era and when I came back it was people I didn’t know and I was too derped to check out a Matt Taven title run. But the sports/ big fight feel was such a breath of fresh air when I first discovered it. Danielson, Samoa Joe, Strong, the Briscoes, Low Ki, McGuiness, the NOAH guys, etc. It really maintained my love of the business and helped introduce me to an even deeper world I didn’t know how to approach. I would likely have fallen out of love with wrestling had it not been for stumbling over Low Ki vs KENTA and Samoa Joe vs Kenta Kobashi.

I loved the idea of an excited smaller crowd like I’d see in the ECW footage, but instead of trying to redo ECW by being extreme/hardcore/edgy, or going the TNA route of highlighting an exciting X-Division, or doing what WWE was doing (I was an angsty teen so maybe I’d appreciate Cena and HHH more if the same thing was on tv now?) they went the way of shaking hands and having technical matches with chops and kicks.

It was an alternative I needed at that time. Which I hope to ramble on the idea of wrestling mimicking or being influenced by pop and modern culture in the future.

Now it is back. I hope they use a lot of Timothy Thatcher. Give me Yuta being mad with kicks. Prick Garcia being a douche. It will likely never be the same as the ROH I had loved, but a honorable representation that highlights great matches is something I’d love to get the Honor Club for.

I just joined HonorClub.  I don't know how I feel.

Im gonna wait until after the first ep airs. Hopefully it gets combined with AEW footage and not likely but hopefully Tony goes crazy and purchases to add CHIKARA, All Japan, lost Bockwinkel footage, the NWA, and also gives me a lifetime supply of free Taco Bell.

If a TV Show suddenly rewrote their storyline based on the fanbase's wishes, I think you'd probably saying they caved in to pressure and not " just"  listened to their audience.

I'd think the same thing would apply to wrestling booking, at least in the short term (an injury forcing a change is a different matter).

If this was a response to what I’ve said, I’m not advocating wild changing of plans and even enjoy the main event for ending with a heartbreaking loss. I even say, “I’m not saying what is right or wrong, more an interesting observation to take note of. ” Not sure if you’re poorly misrepresenting what I posted or if I’m very vein for thinking it is about me at all. And if not, woof, I suck and I like you as a poster and I need to chill out.

  9. Once the Bloodline Arc is complete (or at least a satisfying moment we can plant a checkpoint in as it continues), it will be interesting to compare it to the Hangman Saga. The stories both being two or so year journeys of character development that involve mental health and one or more characters growing into main event level attractions. Very different and represent arguably  opposite ways to present wrestling storytelling. The Bloodline being more promo and segment driven and on the on the sleeve acting while the Hangman Saga attempted subtly (but clearly pointed to) moments in matches with shorter segments (FTR standing up Hangman as an example) but additional content for people watching the YouTube comedy show. I find them both fantastic and I’m excited to see how the Bloodline Arc climaxes.

  10. I was thinking about this earlier. I remember HHH was allegedly irritated with Zach Ryder to the point of even asking him if he was behind the crowds getting behind him. This is coming from Matt Cardona on his podcast a long time ago, so I’m fuzzy on the details. Could be a biased memory on his part, so take it with a grain of salt. But if true, that even back then, HHH was against fan support going off plan, it shouldn’t be a surprise that WWE is maintaining course on what they have planned especially with HHH at head of creative. I’m not saying what is right or wrong, more an interesting observation to take note of.

  11. I really love how WWE is excelling as a highly sensationalized melodrama. Such heightened emotional drama in many of these often face to face promo segments. Sami and the Bloodline, Cody and Heyman, Dom and Rey, Sami and KO, Rhea w/ Dom and Charlotte, Bloodline with themselves, and likely more Bianca with crazy Asuka. Not everything is hitting it out of the park, but it is cool seeing the current WWE aesthetic being such an easy joy to follow along with.

  12. Wrestle Universe question: if I don’t watch it live, do I have to wait until it is archived? Or am I blind and Last Love is currently watchable?

    EDIT

NVM. The title cut off at GRAND FINAL. So I am blind.

so, i don't follow WWE, but i thought of this fact recently:

the only wrestlers to hold both the NWA and WWE World Heavyweight Championships

    • [note 1: this is for the NWA Title, not the WCW Title]
    • [note 2: this includes either the WWE World Title or WWE Universal Title]:

Buddy Rogers: NWA 1x (10/30/62-1/24/63), WWE (inaugural 4/11/63-5/17/63)
    Ric Flair: NWA 10+x , WWE 2x
AJ Styles: NWA 3x, WWE 2x
**Kurt Angle (defeats NWA champ 5/13/07, WWE 4x) **Kurt was considered the first TNA champion and not NWA champion)

will Cody Rhodes become the 4th wrestler to ever win both the NWA and WWE World Championships?

It’s not too late for R-Truth

    and sadly Glen Jacobs

  14. Honestly, if people make passionate posts about the promotions they like, most of us would be willing to check things out and even learn. I watched a recent CMLL show because of a post (and will likely watch more). I checked out and now love 90’s Joshi because of posts in the past. Half the fun of AEW is the dialogue on these threads and the discord during PPV’s being with my only wrestling friends. Recent memory of the WWE threads were pretty boring, now we’re seeing actual long and interesting discussions on feuds and predictions.

A community can be created. Whenever I ask questions in the often barren Lucha section, I get very informed answers by different people. Why not have a Club CMLL and post reactions to the events they post on their YouTube. I don’t know much but I like Bárbaro Cavernario and Soberano Jr. I’d like to like more modern luchadors. Let me be your Jasmine on your magic carpet ride.

Noah is awesome. I enjoy Nakajima and I get pumped up from kicks. That and Big Japan Strong Heavyweights are my favorite styles of wrestling. I don’t have Wrestle Universe but I’m always on the fence. I don’t have it mainly because who would I talk about it with? Maybe a “Woah for NOAH” club where Belgium Waffle and Red King dissect their favorite kicks? I’d be down for that.

Impact won’t get me back in until they add more unnecessary sides to their rings.

I really liked learning modern Joshi from Stephanie and would like to follow it more. Ice Ribbon seems so fun. Stardom seems badass. TJPW is on Wrestle Universe (right?).

I guess my rambling is merely rambling to ramble. I’m sure if you’re looking for a dialogue, be the trailblazer and post your thoughts on a promotion you love in detail. People like myself may be ignorant on all the names or storylines, but will happily learn from the path any of you set out.

I've been grumbling and troll-hunting all day and I always feel bad when I come here and do anything other than talk about the good wrestling I watched + why it's good SO I gotta balance things out again

The Viernes Espectacular that CMLL uploaded this week (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sr-aZ2Y5N-s) really really rocked, in the sense that nothing was a MOTYC but everything was at a bare minimum "great" and showcased a ton of talent. The company has become my #2 active promotion until I find somebody from Japan that's more interesting than my late-nite archive.org deep dives (basically you have to be better than Erotic Terrorist Yingling-era HUSTLE and it turns out that's a high bar).

I wanna find a better avenue to pimp/shill/boost all my guys. Panterita Del Ring Jr. and Soberano Jr. and Fugaz and more than a few others are really gettin' my blood flowing, Atlantis Jr. is paying off, Mistico is Mistico again and way better for it and all the dudes who already ruled still rule. They're undergoing their own "women's revolution" and it's been pretty engaging. I wouldn't say I watch every week but I watch most weeks and every time I check in I come to the conclusion that WAY MORE PEOPLE should be talking about this stuff given the match quality, production values, and ease of viewing. I just wish their YouTube channel was better organized and more English-friendly, it really wouldn't take that much more work.

Took your recommendation for lucha family fun time.

I need help for a match I am writing in my e-fed. (Do not mock me, I know.) Looking for good comedy match recommendations and comedy spots.

Here is the outline of the match: My characters are the faves. I have a young, Uber athletic Shelton Benjamin/Montez Ford type who is still lacking technique. He has a manager who is a cagey, wily older woman who loves shenanigans. They are lovable scoundrels - think Lie Cheat Steal era Eddie stunts but with a really athletic moveset with a manager who has been described as “Blanche Devereaux meets Robin Hood.”

He has a title match. The champion is an older veteran GOAT type heel who is both a physical force and technical master with perhaps their last reign as champ. The has a manager who is like Harley Race. They are Uber serious wrestlers who hate comedy/fun/gimmicks.

So the match itself: My dudes are going to hype up their athletic advantage, which the overly serious heels bite into. But then when the match comes, my dudes just turn it into a comedy shtick fest that the heels are not ready for and it gets under their skin which gives my people an advantage.

So I will take any suggestions of different spots or matches I can watch to ape things.

Bull rope match - The beauty of this is it can be both funny at moments but also suspenseful and/ or brutal if you choose it to be. The funny athletic face can do things like dive out of the ring which will whip the serious heel to get caught up in the ropes. Also get caught up in going around the ref or manager and having everyone tied up together. Classic rope between the legs never hurts. Maybe the funny manager takes the turnbuckle off and tosses it to the hood guy so he can get that point or even wins it that way.

Face must win a collegiate style wrestling bout to get the title shot - A bit of a pre match bit for the stipulated. The serious heel wears a singlet and head gear. The face wears his normal attire. Looks like it’s going to be an easy win for the bad guy, but you get tons of comedic rolling around the ring where the good guy is in control. Tying the arms together struggling for a pin and the good guy gets out of it by giving him a wet willy. Maybe some tickling and the heel giggles like the Pillsbury Doughboy. More so a good guy gets underestimated and clearly wins to lead to a match.

Cage Match - The reason for it is to keep the managers out of the ring. The heel looks at it as a good stipulation because the good guy will be trapped in with him. But then in the match you can have the more athletic face make explosive near escapes for going for the climb. Classic Toru Yano bits but instead of starting with taking off the turnbuckle padding it’s just climbing the cage, getting caught, escaping the hold, climbing the other wall, getting caught, repeat until the heel is winded. Once winded there can be Les Kellet bits but instead of rolling up for a pin it’s being thrown into the cage. Maybe have the funny manager start greasing up the parts of the cage the heel is trying to climb with a stick of butter.

    The world is your oyster.

    ————-

@John E. Dynamite, I will try to lucha that soon!
