  1. Wasn’t O’Shea the one that told them to take the cuffs off the guy? I read it as a overbearing asshole blinded by his ambition to be elected DA doing something dumb. And he was always a dick to Bosch so Bosch had something over him now.
  2. Do you think its selling the Elite to a bigger audience? Or is it adjusting and evolving the Elite to gain a larger audience? You made a lot of good points. We’ll have to wait and see. My prediction is that unless the weekly shows are must see with stories being threaded throughout the show, and with characters that have some build behind them, the viewership won’t be pretty. Just IMO. One of my main concerns is that they’re going to throw all these new faces out there without intro vignettes, without characters, etc. Impact made this mistake— they’d put a talent on TV and slap a nickname on them and that was their character. “Lucha Royalty” comes to mind. NXT is super guilty of this as well (EC3). If you’re gonna put a Jungle Boy on TV, you better give him a character explain why he’s called Jungle Boy. Otherwise I just don’t think you’re gonna get people to care.
  3. If its not, it better be. They’re obviously going to get on big time TV network by all indications. And if they do, they have one shot to get it right. Everyone’s going to scream ratings don’t matter. That’s fine. But if they get on TV and it doesn’t perform to the networks standards, they’ll be off TV. And at that point, they’re another ROH or NJPW. And i don’t know that the big time funding continues at that point.
  4. I think the police incompetence in that whole deal was done to get Bosch over. Especially the where Bosch said “fuck that” to letting them take the ankle locks off the dude. And then of course he escapes.
  5. True. You gotta do it in a smart way. A lot of the comments Shawn and Bret tossed at each other weren’t any better than “forget your scissors”.
  6. Weaving reality into wrestling actually makes it more entertaining? Who would have thunk it.
  7. Are we just assuming its a work due to the weird statement they just put out?
  8. Eh I don’t recall as much outrage. JR himself certainly didn’t say a word about it. The amount of outrage the WCW stuff got was way disproportionate to WWE who mercilessly mocked JR for a decades.
  9. Eh, I get what you’re saying but they all kinda seem the same. I’d be more encouraged if they signed some legit big guys for the top of the card. But it is early so we’ll see.
  10. Nobody on that roster drinks according to Meltzer so it can’t be that.
  11. I mean, he’d totally stand out from the people they already have. So yeah I’d say for sure go for it.
  12. Never been exposed to him before this. But man was he born for that role.
  13. Hahaha. He actually did the Oklahoma bit in WWF on Sunday Night Heat and nobody said a word until it happened in WCW. You’re not wrong. But I stilll think he’s a talented writer.
  14. I don’t think its that cut and dry. His second WCW run in 2000? You’re right on the money. It was pure shit full of all the things you mentioned. His first run, when it was him and Ferrara, was better. For example, the entire nWo reformation that took place in December of 1999 featured a lot of the same breadcrumbs and foreshadowing that the Deadly Games stuff featured. Although I must concede that there were other things during that first run that were indeed awful. The common theme is Ferrara. When Ferrara is involved, who understands scripting out stories in a TV level (He was a TV writer), the shows are normally better.
  15. One more thing on that Deadly Game deal.... the absolute MVP of that entire thing was Mick. Him being the patsy in the entire scenario, conned and manipulated by Vince, was absolute gold.
  16. The fact that he was introduced as “The coach of the Pasadena Chargers....” made my day. Also, this was where my Meltzer dislike probably originated as he heavily hinted that HBK would be the mystery man. As a 12 yr old HBK fan, I was highly disappointed.
  17. Any thoughts on Bosch? It started a little slow for me but I really got into it. About to finish season 4. Titus Welliver does a tremendous job portraying the old grizzled veteran cop who’s been to hell and back. I legitmatory felt sorry did him through different parts of the show.
  18. This is something I’d check out. I was super into Suits for a while but fell out of it. My Meghan Markle crush is still strong though. Is this on USA?
  19. Weren’t the Bucks supposedly in attendance last night? Given how short on actual heavyweights they are, Hager would be a good pick up. If they were smart, they’d have actual heavyweights in the heavyweight title scene and then have a proper cruserweight divison where that style actually stands out. Which it doesn’t when you have it up and down the card.
  20. Writing it off as “one swerve” is either the result of a memory lapse or discounting it on purpose. There were so many moving pieces to that which all made sense in the end— Mankind, Bossman, Shane, Vince, Shamrock, Rock himself. The way they used foreshadowing was tremendous. It was a great piece of writing. It was in a different universe then the repetitive stuff being booked today. Nobody is arguing your second point. The creative team at the time had the best of the best to work with. But Russo, and Ferrara (who never gets enough credit), put them in interesting situations that played to their strengths. Which is more than I can say for current creative.
  21. Haha. You showed me. Go watch some more gymnastics.
  22. Nah, the gymnasts and acrobats they’re signing, who look like your local CrossFit instructor, works just fine. Since they wanna be unique and different and all. Maybe they can go scout the local circus and bring some trapeze artists next? That way they can flip and fly as much as your little heart desires and you can rate their routine along with Meltzer.
  23. I thought it was a good discussion till the butthurt insults started flying for no reason. There were loose storylines. But they weren’t being threaded throughout the show like they were on Raw and Smackdown. Which contributed to the pace.
