  1. Start another thread for this if you want, but I have never said Sting wasn't important in 1997. I was at Uncensored 97 live. The problem is he has the worst five year drawing record of any comparable ace I can find in wrestling history, and believe me, I have looked.
  2. One hit wonder terrorism is a real possibility if the polls don't go up at the same time as the threads as evidenced by this result (though I don't really mind Wagner winning).
  3. Del Rio is hurt from booking, but also because his best matches were obscured by better or more talked about matches from "hotter" internet commodities, i.e. Bryan, Cesaro, The Shield, Zayn, et. Even if you pitch out the awesome Big Show match from last years voting period, some of the stuff with Dolph was outstanding (really Dolph's best stuff of the year), he had some tv matches with Swagger that were really underrated, and Del Rio v. Christian from Summerslam would have been the best match on a show for a lot of ppvs in a lot of years - it's just that that show had the best one-two punch maybe ever with Cena v. Bryan and Punk v. Lesnar. Wagner has one match that people have seen in large numbers, and a few others that people may be watching to a degree. Having seen everything of his I could find on tape last year, the famous Park singles match, and the TXT tag are so far ahead of anything else he did all year it's crazy.
  4. Voted for Uso for two reasons. The first is that a full body of matches is going to get my vote over a handful of strong performances every time unless one of those handful of performances includes a true MOTYC and Christian doesn't have that. The second is that voting for "Uso" now allows me to make arguments on behalf of voting for The Shield as a collective later in the process when superior candidates have been eliminated via mafia influenced bracketing.
  5. Del Rio's character is shit and Wagner's best match was much better than Del Rio's best match. On the other hand I thought Del Rio looked really great at times last year. To be fair a lot of that was in the last voting period (jan and feb of last year), but he was still putting on really strong performances leading up to an after Mania to the point where I thought he was one of the best guys in the promotion up until the half way point of the year. I am in the process of putting together my WKO ballot and I have Del Rio ahead of Wagner by a reasonable amount of places, see no reason to change that here even if he is about to be mauled.
  6. TNA is terrible and I try to avoid it at all costs because it makes me hate being a wrestling fan. Having said that I voted for Aries. Not so much because I think Aries was anything special this year, but because Devitt is near the bottom of the list of wrestlers I want to see. He's ahead of HHH, but after that the pickings get real slim. The Bullet Club is a terrible gimmick that would be universally loathed if it was in any other fed on earth, and Devitt is the most annoying thing about it. I don't hate him as a worker as much as someone people I know, but it's not like he had any matches I thought were better than pretty good last year to offset is WOATC level gimmick.
  7. Dean should love this. Shaun Tempers and Andrew Alexander beat the fuck out of each other in a dog collar match held in a dimly lit southern warehouse. Tempers bleeds all over the place and Alexander hits an insane dive where he disappears off camera.
  8. Should have made everyone think you were leaving in a huff because of Dolph's impending doom. Breaking kayfabe this early is not good.
  9. I've already destroyed the myth of Sting as a Hall of Famer in great detail elsewhere, if people want to see my data showing that he was a worse drawing ace than 1986 Curt Hennig in the AWA it's out there. This thread should be about my hatred for SUWAMA, cheap shots on TNA "talent," an extolling the virtues of Rush.
  10. Let's not pretend Sting is a good HoF candidate just to make a good point about Kurt Angle being a bad one.
  11. I was going to say that the Usos gimmick sets a terrible precedent for the integrity of this tournament going forward, but then I remembered gambling interests stole the tournament from Mark Henry a couple of years back.
  12. Best thing Mochizuki did last year was have an awesome five minute match with Fujiwara where he was the lesser performer.
  13. To be fair, Goldust is one of the only guys in the world who I would even consider voting over Rush.
  14. I am a huge Big Show fan, but anyone who votes for him over Casas should be banned for a year.
  15. I am putting into a place a rule where I will vote against all indie wrestlers to protest the exclusion of Vordell Walker. The exception will be Masters v. Tanahashi. In that match up I just won't vote at all
  16. Where the heck have you been? You should have been here pimping lucha.. I'll be honest, after all the WWE/U.S. indies/Japan, I really don't have much time for anything else but for this tourney if someone can point to the best work of x-wrestler I will definitely give them a look. I'm not sure how many will vote this way but I'll agree the lucha guys deserve an opportunity. I'm mainly just needling Jae because that's the funnest part of this process and I assume he knows I'm not being malicious. Having said that Virus v. Rush, and Park v. Panther in the first round while something like Spud v. SUWAMA is a first round match suggests mafia involvement. Of course the flipside is that luchadores are going to have a tough go of it no matter what because not as many people watch them so by putting them against each other you are at least ensuring they don't all get popped in the first round. As far as where I've been, well I never left in spirit, but the low intensity trolling got to be too much for me for a while. I always knew I'd be back for March Madness
  17. Rockstar Spud v. SUWAMA in the opening round is hilarious. Four of the better luchadores eat each other alive in round one, while this years Cody Deaner advances over the sixtieth best guy in Japan.
  18. The advantage for Ziggler is that Ibushi isn't any good. The disadvantage is that ibushi was in that great match with Nakamura
  19. Of course. What kind of question is that? Follow me on twitter @DylanWaco for access to more truisms.
  20. Gulak is good. Walker was the most versatile wrestler in the world last year as far as playing multiple roles effectively and having good matches in all of those roles. He was also one of the only indie wrestlers who I thought had mutliple great performances, including an Iron Man Match v. Sigmon that was in the upper tier of matches I saw from anywhere on Earth last year. After Walker there is no indie guy I would feel super strongly about including, though there were guys who had years I liked.
  21. Vordell Walker would have got bumped in the first round anyhow, but I would have picked him over nearly everyone in the tourney without a second thought. I have nothing against Chris Masters, hell i'm the guy who created the Church of The Masterpiece, but I can't really think of a single argument for him to be in a tourney like this this year. He had some good matches (v. Archer, v. Travis), but he really wasn't a standout even in a depleted indie scene. Bryan will win as always, so this is really a race to see who loses to him. My guess is Cesaro who i think was the best in the world last year and has been so far this year. Rush and Virus against each other in the first round is the equivalent of Bryan v. Cesaro in the first round.
  22. Someone use this thread to post me the five best Scott Mac matches of the year and the best Puerto Rico t.v. stuff of the year. I actually watched a bunch of PR t.v. through about May, but after that I'm at a loss.
