  1. Probably still in the top 2 or 3 fights I have ever seen. Joe Goossen totally makes the finish historic.
  2. Throne of Atlantis was kinda blah to me. I have not seen Batman vs. Robin yet, but I haven't heard great things about it. Justice League: Gods and Monsters, which comes out on July 28, is the one I am looking forward to.
  3. On the sponsor front.... Apparently, Bisping had an ugly confrontation with John Makdessi in the elevator of the UFC 186 fighter hotel over Fear the Fighter not paying him. It would be interesting to see how this affects someone like Bisping, who has been with several fly-by-night companies since coming to the UFC nine years ago.
  4. Also, it sounds like Constantine can come back as a midseason replacement according to executive producer/showrunner Daniel Cerone
  5. I was just pointing that out in reference to supreme's point about how would companies make their money back in relation to paying more than (reported) contracted purses. There have been some guys that have been able to come up on sponsors taking a chance. Lesser now than ever, but there is a precedent.
  6. http://www.mmafighting.com/2015/5/6/8561443/ufc-brass-explains-why-they-believe-reebok-compensation-terms-are-a If you wanna believe sprewellrimz or not, Cain was making a quarter million from Milwaukee Tools around the time of the Brock and first JDS fight. I got to look it up, but I don't think he was making that guaranteed per fight. Plus, I believe Chael was making a grip ($100k+ IIRC) to wear the Immortals logo when then movie came out. Some guys manage to carve out a niche for themselves despite what went on with the sponsor tax and also not seeming like they are worth it.

  8. Now I'm hoping that he'll be rowing by when Bronn and Jaime need to escape with the princess. That would be the most ridiculous coincidence ever, but ultimately hilarious. They all can't fit into the boat and then they toss him.
  9. Somehow I forgot all about that crew and thought you confused Ned with Robert Baratheon. So now I expect a scene exclusively devoted to Gendry just rowing and trying not to fall into the water. EDIT: BEATEN!
  10. Cliff Curtis could be in just about anything though. I believe the pregnancy got her blackballed in New Zealand after The Nativity Story.
  11. Dude, they found Jodhi May who has only been doing TV movies in the UK for the last twenty years. May was also in a movie called Common (which was pretty decent FWIW) with Michelle Fairley. She had like a 90 second cameo as MAGGY THE FROG. The life of child actors is hard.
  12. I think Beyonce would take Sasha seeing as we had the whole Sasha Fierce thing. But that's just me though. We haven't even talked about the fact that the little girl from The Whale Rider javelin'd a man through the head.
  13. Since this thread was mainly for discussion during the live event, I've moved all the (recent) random stuff to the appropriate thread. Anything left pertaining specifically to the fight and/or event (buyrate, gate, news., etc.) can still be posted here. Everything else goes in the Random Boxing Thoughts thread.
  14. Well, I thought the claim/reason was based off what happened in the sixth round of the first fight. Once the headbutts started back again in the rematch, that's when Tyson chose to retaliate so the same pattern wouldn't develop.
  15. Incredible http://www.latimes.com/sports/boxing/la-sp-sn-pacquiao-mayweather-lawsuit-shoulder-20150505-story.html
  16. I don't think it is bad for dudes like Bader if they actually knew what their ceiling was. There are some guys in the LHW division that can pad his UFC win-loss record and there some guys that would wipe the floor with him. Yeah, those guys are injured and in other fights except for Teixeira who he turned down. If Manuwa wasn't injured, he can probably beat him. Instead of going on about how I won three straight or whatever, I would be asking for a mid-tier LHW to fight on that New Orleans card. Even if they move your fight down to the co-main, you still get an easy payday and don't risk getting beat the hell up like what would've happened with Cormier.
  17. Hatton was fighting a pretty decent fight ...up until the part where he got knocked into the turnbuckle.
  18. Well, SRL and Tyson fought when PPV was relatively new and you could have legitimate, big fights on a Monday or Wednesday. It's a weird comparison in that if someone like Amir Mansour came down the pipeline in that era ( and was obviously way younger), he would be thrown on PPV and be somewhat successful. Now guys like that are struggling to get on Friday Night Fights and whatnot. It's a system now that is made to only accomodate the biggest stars, especially now when we can differentiate which fights are big and which ones we can skip.
  19. Forget Barriston, I was living the "elite trained-from-birth" Unsullied totally lost their shit when they were jumped by a bunch of former slavers wielding daggers. Tight quarters? So you get back-to-back and form a phalanx with your shields and spears, that's basic tactics. Nobody is going to get close to you with a dagger if they have to go through a wall of 4 spears in an alley! The fight scenes in this show can get so annoying - Unsullied mowed down like flies, the "best killers" of the Iron Islands beaten back by Ramsey Snow in his freaking underwear, I think the only reason the Wildlings were allowed to put up a fight at The Wall was because they were lead by Shemp, everyone's favorite Stooge. Yeah, that really has stood out since the beginning of the season. Maybe they want us to believe that if there isn't a bunch of them in one area then they all suck at fighting save for Grey Worm?
  20. IMO, there is hurt and then there is ready to go. With the former, you at least have to adequately follow up and land more significant punches. The latter is where the fighter on offense really doesn't have to be in a position to land another big shot. A recent and kinda extreme example would be Kovalev vs. Pascal. Kovalev hurt Pascal a few times early on and Pascal survived. Then, I think Pascal hurt Kovalev at least once around the middle rounds. Then, Pascal tired out and Kovalev got his second wind. Pascal was stumbling around like a drunk man outside a liquor store. Then, the referee virtually had no choice but to stop it.
  21. He did/does fight in a fearless style but he also looked for openings to take advantage of. The best thing about Manny around the time of the IBF 122 lbs. title run is he could be a really smart fighter despite doing some dumb things like getting dropped by random dudes from Kazakhstan. I think after Morales I, he really learned a lesson so we never really got that again. The problem is less openings and the fact the punches are not really landing at the speed and angles they use to. I would say Floyd's chin has been tested plenty of times. He just has insanely fast recovery skills and knows how to impede your offense. The same dude who almost laid Adrian Stone six feet under hurt Floyd and then couldn't finish him. PEDs be damned. Maidana stood Floyd up with a punch in the rematch (I wanna say the end of round 4). He only really woke him up, and Floyd came out like nothing happened.
  22. Scott Eastwood is like if someone took Chris Evans and did the Looper thing with his father's face instead of Bruce Willis. But his hair is on fleek tho.
  23. The thing is..that Manny would NOT be fighting this version of Floyd Mayweather. He would have been fighting a younger Floyd with slightly more stamina. Floyd got old too and lost some of his abilities. What would have been Gatti type performance against someone like Robert Guerrero isn't really enough to get someone out of there nowadays. So he chooses to fight in a no frills type of way. By this, I mean if he hasn't stopped a guy by the eighth round, he won't push the issue. So you will see glimpses of a more offensive Floyd Mayweather, but it's fewer and far between because he knows he can always make adjustments on the fly. With Pacquiao, you can see he wants to knock certain guys out that really don't belong in there with him. Yet, his body really isn't responding to that wish. 2009 Pacquiao would have fucking demolished Chris Algeri. Now, we gotta settle for him carrying that type of guy and occasionally getting a knockdown.
  24. I think the reason why no one thought he was injured is that he looked like pretty much the most recent iteration of Manny Pacquiao. Just against a fighter who has better defense than anyone he has ever fought. Personally, I think he has been a steady decline since the fights at Cowboys Stadium. For Manny to have a modicum of chance against Floyd, he would have needed to revert to a fighter we have not seen in six or seven years. That's possible at the age of 31 or 32. On the wrong side of 35, not so much. That's not only simply because of the skill disparity, but the sheer size disadvantage. Floyd use to be a lightweight pretending to be a junior welterweight and then a small sized junior welterweight pretending to be a welterweight and junior middleweight. Now he is about as settle into being a welterweight as he possibly can be. Manny still has to eat burgers to get a few pounds within the welterweight limit. That's a lot to overcome when you're physically breaking down.
