  1. I'm really going to be sad to see her go. She had a great year. She got not only the loudest pop of the house show I saw her on, she got the loudest pop I've ever heard in that particular building except for Hogan. Apologies if this has already been discussed in the Japan folder, but apparently NJPW had to completely rearrange their US cards because they had issues getting visas for their guys due to the government shutdown here. I feel bad for the fans who bought tickets thinking they were getting top Japanese stars. That being said, a lot of the comments on NJPWs site and Reddit have been really uncool toward those they were able to have booked. Under any other name these would be good shows I feel like: https://www.njpw1972.com/42933?utm_source=hootsuite&utm_medium=&utm_term=&utm_content=&utm_campaign=
  2. I could buy maybe they are thinking more along the lines of a Hall and Nash situation (maybe) but there's like a zero percent chance Okadas TNA run is on their radar. Here's a fun story I may have told before: I worked for a company years ago that had a contract with WWE (Im being purposely vague as to not doxx myself). A WWE production staffer said to me outright, thinking I didn't know anything about wrestling "Even though we can't use pyro in (town), were not going to go with the green lasers. Our competition uses them. Well, they're not competition... at all, really, but... We're not going with the lasers." I think that probably sums up the level of attention paid to TNA at that time.
  3. Agreed. Two of the last matches without commentary I watched couldn't be more drastically different (Last Battle of Atlanta and that Ospreay/Ricochet NJPW match) and I felt the exact same way with both. I think it's sort of an unfair criticism just because we all know the situation with Vince in their ears at WWE. The WWE guys are good when they aren't over-produced (Mauro's great, Cole was great on Beast from the East and Evolution). Outside of WWE there's a steep quality drop off in my opinion (and that's not me being a homer, either, because I've always said that the late 90s WCW crew was my favorite, Dustyisms and all). J.R. unfortunately (and understandably) hasn't really been himself in NJPW and the less said about the Kevin Kellys and Josh Matthews and Matt Strikers of the world, the better. Tenay/Don West was such good/bad fun but that was like ten years ago now already. I don't watch a ton of Indies but when I do, most of the commentators sound like me as a 13 year old yelling "Oh shit dude, shades of Vader!" behind my dad's camcorder while two of my buddies roll around on the lawn. Wrestling needs good announcers, not no announcers.
  4. Good look! I was actually just considering signing up the other night after watching the Nigel doc and seeing the ad at the end. I had no idea there was non-TNA stuff on there really
  5. I was really into the idea of it too just because (and I've said it many times before) I just grew so tired of the traditional arena presentation and people were saying it was supposed to be like a modern Wrestling At The Chase or something, which I've only ever seen in that weird Bob Costas doc
  6. Re: the HBO talk, wasn't this sort of like what that Jeff Katz' Wrestling Revolution project was supposed to be? I know there was the whole thing where the footage wasn't usable allegedly but I mean in it's infancy, when they were talking about possibly trying to make a deal with AMC I feel like this was sort of the concept.
  7. I'm a little out of the loop on Barrett-- has he done anything besides the GM role on WCPW? I haven't seen anything about him working matches anywhere
  8. It's been a real pleasure. I don't know exactly how long I've lurked here (probably since high school, though I remember when I was in college I remember someone here had a pretty cool signature that said "I remember when wrestling was fun-- it was 2007") but it always seemed like this was the place to be.
  9. Also very sorry to hear about what Sullivan is dealing with. Not to get too personal, but I've been going through panic attacks for like a year and a half, and although they've leveled off with the help of medication, every day is still tough. Like for example, one effect is that I'm constantly dizzy-- if I can't even walk around normally, I cant see myself going out and working a match, especially something that high profile. I wish him the absolute best.
  10. My girlfriends black and I've been trying to convince her to add an umlaut to the o in her name cause it's more metal, and you guys really aren't helping my cause
  11. I'm extremely pro-World War III and no one will ever, ever change my mind
  12. Another thing, very small to some, but I really hope all the actual physical titles look great. If it were me, I'd call Midwest belts and commission new versions of the winged eagle, IC, and tag with our logo on it smack dab in the middle. They're Reggie Parks' designs, not WWE's. Every promotion has to prey on nostalgia a little bit, right? I think it would a cool way for a promotion with absolutely zero history behind it to accomplish that. WWE fans have been clamoring for their returns for years, this is a tangible way to say "We listen to you, and we hear you" to the old school fan who is maybe a little skeptical of this upstart no one ever heard of. Plus it's a hell of a lot less sad and a shit ton smarter than trotting out old timers looking for a last pay day. Could it be looked at as a little bush league? Sure, I'd def entertain that argument. But I don't remember anyone saying anything about ECW when they did it with their tags and TV title in the 90s (though the designs were used I believe without permission and made by a different guy, I think named Mike Vartanian(sp?) I also really liked it when Billy Corgan had that promotion out of Chicago and they used an updated big gold belt. Edit: found a photo
  13. I truly hope the whole emphasis on wins/losses is not necessarily a formal point system, but more of just the announcers putting the wins over, saying things like "(Midcarder) has won his last three bouts, and surely looks to be in line for a (IC/US/TV) title shot if he can make it past (Upper Midcarder) here tonight" or "(New Main Eventer) is looking to challenge for the World title, but first he'll have to go toe to toe with (Established Main Eventer) to earn that shot" I agree with everyone here who pointed out all the drawbacks to it and Evolve dropping it etc.
  14. TBS I think would actually be a great fit because they show a lot of these competitive video game tournaments on weekend afternoons and overnight, so there might be some crossover there in terms of trying to grab the comicon crowd
  15. Shit, there's an idea, why not give it to Ali? There are two belts now, he doesn't have to main event the thing.
  16. I forgot about those guys. It's a pretty good look for wrestling, to be honest. I'm surprised no one besides Vampiro in LU has ripped off Ghost's whole gimmick yet
  17. It's insane to me there's no bingo-machine number drawing special done on the Network, or even on TV like with those big draft...oh, sorry, Superstar Shakeup episodes. I get it if they want surprises but at least do the top or bottom 5 or 10 as a little tease
  18. Now that WWE has a massive late 90s WCW roster, they need to turn Main Event or Superstars or whatever into a WCW C Show with like Kushida vs Randy Orton being the new La Parka vs Savage or something
  19. I wish Alex Shelley was still wrestling. Time Splitters in WWE would be awesome, as would have been MCMGs. I'm actually surprised there's no interest in Chris Sabin for 205 like another Kendrick veteran type figure.
  20. I have seen a lot of similar, outrageous claims made about various guys recently and I honestly think it's a combination of two things: 1) our beloved wrestling bubble 2) The posters on many other sites/boards/ugh Reddit skew a lot younger than they used to, and are trying to delude themselves into believing that because they missed out on guys jumping back and forth during the 90s
  21. Hadn't seen his response just brought him up coincidentally as the other most genital adjacent indie worker going. But he does probably sum up my feelings best, though your own personal reaction probably does more so
  22. Oh yeah though how about road dog that's real real disappointing. I think dreamer had a pretty good take honestly
  23. I'm ok with it once but if it becomes like the joey Ryan dick stuff where it's just her whole thing I'm out This is a fucked up story but one time my high School girlfriend threw one at me while I was in the shower during an argument and I really have not ever been the same so I'm real biased Edit I kinda sat here and thought about what wrestling is at heart though and that were all talking about it and that she'll at least make a little dough off it somehow and now I'm more ok with it. The only way I guess that it's a bad move is if HHH/NXT become aware/uncomfortable about it then it probably was dumb buy other than that whatever make your fuckin paper I guess
  24. I didn't realize we had so many players here. I might have to make a sick DVDVR arena for us all to use. Anyone on XB1 here?
