  1. I'm in love with this tron. It's so weird - it fits that team perfectly.
  2. Watched this with my 9-year old son and had a good old time. He played with toys half the time - he tunes out on any tag team matches, though... says he "just can't get into tag team stuff." ? Marvez seemed uncomfortable in the pre-show but once JR got there you could tell he loosened up and got more comfortable. Excalibur is really, really good. I still think it would be great to take the mask off and do commentary as a person and not a worker but whatever. Like you said, JR seemed really enthused and while I'd like to see him step back from the booth sooner than later I think he was good to have around for this show and likely the next. I was happy to see the production quality where it was and definitely a step up from All In - all signs seem to point to these guys at least making a real push at being competition. I'd be wary of directly competing with Vince, though, as we've seen where that's headed. The Khan's got dough but still not so much that they can compete *everywhere*. They need to take the right risks and aim for the right audience and grow the brand organically. Nyla Rose does nothing for me. My son calls Kylie Rae a "Bayley" rip-off and he's right but I actually think she might be better than Bayley. It was obvious that Baker was going to win since they've been pushing her since the beginning but this start of the women's division is decent. Also - have I been sleeping on Scorpio Sky? Dude seems to me to be the best dude in SCU - Daniels and Kazarian are still good but Scorp seems to be great.
  3. Not necessarily - a "pure sports build" between Page and Omega is something I could see AEW doing to show that they're different and that they don't always need to have heel vs. face booking.
  4. As much as Rusev has arguably been misused and whatnot, if I'm Vince and/or Hunter I'm tempted to just cut bait on the both of them. They're not worth the trouble. Maybe that's their point - to get released and see what they can do elsewhere - but if WWE isn't letting people go for fear of getting over elsewhere, these two are just going to rot on the shelf until contract expiry. What's their collective ceiling in WWE, really? Lana ever going to be Women's champ on either brand? Rusev a legit title holder? I get their frustration but at this point it's not like their shade-throwing is going to get them anywhere (although it could be argued it can't really hurt them, either.)
  5. The little bit of a promo they show is pretty brutal but standard white-meat 'aw shucks' babyface, which is what he was. It was goofy and awkward, which is really the whole theme around Magee, I find. I think this is where his mindset and really wanting to be a pro wrestler makes all the difference in the world and why he probably wouldn't have got it even if they did give him an extended house show tour to learn. He's this goofy, awkward, well-meaning, extremely athletic guy who gave wrestling a shot but wasn't super *into* it - the guys that are most successful in wrestling seem to be those who are completely obsessed with the business and every little detail of it. He didn't seem to love it, and that's likely a reason he was able to simply walk away and disappear from it altogether.
  6. Apologies but I don’t see a thread for it - just saw the Network’s Hart/Magee special and a couple of observations: 1) Tom Magee was a great athlete but just judging by his talking about his life since and his time back then, he is just not a “pro wrestling guy.” Nice dude, great accomplishments but not someone who seemed wired for the business. 2) Magee was weirdly awkward in doing almost everything but backflips and armdrags - maybe he could’ve gotten better with about a year on the road but hard to say. 3) Harry Smith’s Bret impression is INCREDIBLE.
  7. How many managers did she ask to speak to with that hairstyle?
  8. Sure - some fall victim to those trappings and some don't. Was just wondering if there might have been injuries or other mitigating factors involved since some guys from the same territory (or even just in the US in those time periods, really) maintained physiques and those guys didn't.
  9. Fair enough. Is there any indication what happened that made Adonis gain weight like that? Same with Rose... did they just stop caring or was it injuries or anything like that? I've seen some stuff and they were both great workers and while with both it became an ironic part of their characters, it's still odd to me. I know that some guys (including myself) gain weight as we get older but their weight gains were pretty drastic...
  10. Always weird to me to see a skinny, brown-haired Adrian Adonis. Never mind the Blue Oyster hat and gloves.
  11. Per that article, E made $8,500 at the time of writing. That's 68 videos at $125, and using an average video time of 1.5 minutes, that's roughly 2 hours of filming time. Generously add an hour for prep time and you're looking at 3 hours of work. Definitely a nice side gig if you're good at it. Someone like E might actually have a lot of fun doing it (based on his birthday video for Bob.)
  12. I'm going to assume Harper's now just going to be a good soldier, show up when required and ride out his contract at this point. He's going to get money elsewhere, sadly he just has to bid his time until he's free and Vince and co. aren't going to do anything good with him in the meantime.
  13. I want the IIconics to be like Honky Tonk Man at this point - super annoying, chicken-shit heels who are *just* good enough to defend themselves but really have no business winning every match but keeping doing so until the fans blow the roof off for whoever beats them. What women's tag team can be Warrior?
  14. Could be Youtube. My 8 year old son is now obsessed and spends a bunch of time watching Youtube clips and learns about the Attitude era and wrestling history that way. The only problem is he's a bit of a know-it-all so I have to fill in the gaps when comes to tell me something he thinks he knows and that I don't ?
  15. Full gear and flip flops. Love it every time I see it.
  16. As soon as I saw this and checked the clock, I was let down because I knew whatever was the closing segment on the 'Mania go-home Raw would pale in comparison. The wind was let out of the sails a bit with the Angle bit at the end, but then I just watched this chaos again and the excitement came back. I loved all of it.
  17. John's show is great - I enjoy it a lot. But the biggest issue is that there seems to be absolutely no impact from what he does. Several of the things that he's done bits on (psychics, Facebook, Astroturfing, nuclear waste, gerrymandering, etc.) were eye-opening and might have been the thing to get the ball rolling on change for some of those topics, but nothing ever seems to happen after them. Like mentioned earlier, most of the audience will view wrestling and wrestlers as being stupid and ridiculous anyway, so expecting some type of outrage and change because of this piece is unwarranted.
  18. Is there anybody in wrestling who was as athletic yet incredibly uncoordinated as Magee? Everything I've seen of the guy indicates that he would never, ever get it but that it should have been plainly obvious in a training ring, let alone on camera.
  19. The junior hockey team he owned - aptly named the Calgary Hitmen - started with pink and black team colours but added gold/orange trim along the way. Calgary Flames' colours are red, white, and orange, too, so it could be a reference to that since the Flames have owned the Hitmen since 1997.
  20. My brief forays into watching MLW online have me as a hard no on that front. It just sounds dated at this point.
  21. I see a triple meaning in the "us" but they're all related. Black, most certainly (and unfortunately, because it's such a difficult and risky path to tread.) I also think that there's a sense that being "like" them is being "New School": not partying, into video games, the internet, all of that. Things that Daniel Bryan and others that "get the rub" aren't - this of course ignoring that Joe, Orton, and others have been on UpUpDownDown repeatedly for storyline purposes. The third is that goofiness that New Day brings to the table and part of their charm (and partly why this B+ player stuff works well) - in kayfabe terms it's hard to take them seriously because of the pancakes, the trombone, their entrance, etc. But also in storyline terms they're 5x champs, Kofi's got his accolades, they do everything that the company wants, and still don't get "respect". Because they're not "serious" like Orton, Bryan, Joe and others, they don't get rewarded, unlike others on the roster. Of course, the race is what is going to stand out because it's the strongest and most negative overtone, which is what makes it so risky and why they shouldn't even bother going in that direction. Unless they use this to get to Vince going full Trump to get him off TV after 'Mania, in which case I'm totally here for it.
  22. Wonder if that place in Panama City, Florida is still standing where those Nitros were years ago... might be an interesting place for an AEW show. You might have a tough time convincing guys not to get into the pool, though.
  23. I still just can't get over what this guy's done to keep his career going. His work is good to great and his commitment to the craft is insane (just look at the chest scar for a recorded gimmick that he's got a battery in his now invincible cyborg body!)
  24. I read somewhere - think it was a Twitter post from one of the newz sites - that Heyman is coaching both Lynch and Rousey during this feud and it feels like he's got his fingerprints on it. This screams of someone creating buzz at the expense of some of the more "sacred" elements of pro wrestling which I'd like to think is something that Paul Heyman is an expert at. I mean, not like Russo, but Paul E.'s done his fair share of "blurring the lines" in attempts to get viewers, whether those viewers are "smart" and hateful of what going on or not. i don't think it's a good thing, it's just something he's done before (i.e. Pillman, Austin, etc.) I was hoping for just Ronda v. Becky, but if this how they've got to run the program to keep Ronda happy while getting Becky over, then that's a corner WWE have backed themselves into. I just don't think the shooty, kayfabe smashing bullshit is needed here (or anywhere, really.) Breaking kayfabe is just lazy creative, in my opinion.
