  1. When they first announced Emilia Clarke was the lead, I immediately thought she should've waited at least a few more years before taking on a giant role. I mean I think she is great as Daenerys, but it's not like it requires her to do a whole heck of a lot. I've seen her do some stage acting (Breakfast at Tiffany's IIRC). Oooof. She is a tad bit limited.
  2. That what it was, imo. I mean the argument that MMA has no replay value compared to wrestling is kinda stupid. It was based off of nothing. Then it turned out, yeah, what gets the most clicks is the new stuff on both platforms. That's hilarious.
  3. What fights were they severely lacking? My larger point is this: At no point did it make sense to say, "Hey, I don't think they're going to make any improvements". Seeing as people could you know....sign up a few months after it started when a lot more stuff would be up and some of the bugs were worked out. Better yet, do the trial month and the come back, which I am assuming a ton of people did. Basically, the UFC had nothing but incentives for making sure the service got better. I could see if this was the UFC's fifth attempt of a streaming service and fight library directly aimed a consumers rather than UFC.tv. However, for ten bucks, you were getting essentially a service that was pretty much guaranteed to improve over the span of several months. If this was just a monthly thing where you purchased PPVs for sixty dollars, then I could see people being furious about the stream crapping out. However, I don't think blowing up over not having PRIDE 7 or the entire fight docket of one guy is that sensible. There are various other ways and methods to watch those fights. You could also buy a DVD or whatever off of eBay for like five bucks. For only ten bucks, unless you're living in Section 8 housing or the boonies, I don't see the rationale of expecting everything to be at your fingertips.
  4. Except the jerseys from other sports are wearable and from athletes someone may actually know.No one of the general public would know who Tom Lawlor or Cub Swanson are. Much less would they recognize Thomas Lawlor or Kevin Swanson. What a pathetic mess really. As Reebok wasn't a stale enough brand to partner with already. Eh we'll see. Everyone laughed at Fight Pass when it started, and it became profitable faster than WWE Network. When Fight Pass began they were basically offering past Dan Lauzon fights and unaired prelims from a ton of fighters no one cared to watch for $9.99 a month. Yeah, I'm gonna disagree with that. They had a ton of whole events at the start and a bunch of great WEC fights. Considering how much they had to cover, they got a lot of stuff up fast in just a couple months. I think the problem was people didn't like the search because it brought up some unrelated stuff. Plus, you had some streaming problems during the first couple cards and prelims. However, a lot of the complaints were negligible and just plain irrational.
  5. Lili Asia MMA ‏@MMAinASIAdotcom 5m #UFCJapan: @KID_KRAZYBEE Yamamaoto, @kyoji1012 Horiguchi and @StrasserKiichi Kunimoto will fight!
  6. Jacare is planning to return in September. Again, my guess would be Jacare vs. Romero underneath Weidman vs. Rockhold at UFC 191. Rumble Johnson wants to return in August, but it looks like there isn't anybody available. I think he will probably serve as a replacement option for the time being.
  7. Bloody Elbow ‏@BloodyElbow 9m9 minutes ago USADA pushes back IV ban for UFC fighters until October http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2015/7/1/8881077/ufc-drug-testing-policy-usada-iv-ban-grace-period-october-weight-cutting-mma-newsL Looks like Bader vs. Evans will be on UFC 192 in Houston
  8. I'm not sure Dillashaw vs. Barao II is not on PPV because it doesn't draw. I believe it just lined up that way. It was on 186 as the main event and then Dillashaw got hurt. Rousey vs. Correia was already booked for 190 while 189 was filled to the brink. It didn't make sense to put it on 188. Thus, putting on one of the several July TV cards made sense. If Ronda got hurt a couple weeks ago or something like that, pretty sure they would have moved that fight to Rio. It would only mean the fight got delayed by a week and also allow them to make a bout to replace it in Chicago.
  9. I think the good still pretty much outweighs the bad (if you want to call it that). He still is the best featherweight in the world and has been for the better part of five or six years. For a company that has spent a massive amount of time and money trying to get all the best guys, I doubt they would go in the other direction suddenly and start letting the best fighters go. I don't know whether it plays as much into legitimacy because you have guys that left or were let go. However, they were probably among the best and NOT the best at that time. It hasn't been their MO since early in the Zuffa run when Bustamante and Pulver left. Barnett wanted a million bucks, and they let him go. Penn wanted money, and he was gone. All this was ten or more years ago. They waged war and wouldn't let Couture go. It goes back to what I was discussing with Kos and Phil Davis in the Athlete Marketing Program thread. You can let Phil Davis and Koscheck go because they're not an integral part of your overall business plan anymore. However, when you're still touting that the UFC is where all the best fighters are, keeping Jose Aldo is a big part of that until he loses and no longer holds any substantial value. If everything was dependent upon on who is and who isn't a draw, there would be 20 people on the roster.
  10. Brett Okamoto ‏@bokamotoESPN 1m Sounds like Martin Kampmann is a 50/50 chance to be in Chad Mendes' corner at UFC 189. He and wife expecting birth of third child next week. If I'm fighting for a title belt, I would like my head coach to show up.
  11. Live stream: UFC 189 media call with McGregor, Mendes, Lawler, MacDonald (5 p.m. ET) http://dlvr.it/BNq0sM via @MMAjunkie Also, UFC is going back to Dublin on 10/24 at 3Arena (formerly the O2 Dublin)
  12. I saw Divergent a few days ago on HBO, and he was like the least offensive part of the movie. YA just isn't for me I guess. He can do American accents. That's more than I can say for ole Sam "I make Sam Neill's American accent sound natural" Worthington. Plus, women want to fuck him. That has bought Boris Kodjoe like 10 or 15 years in Hollywood.
  13. They would delay it, but a big part of that $7 million gate is the Irish contingent. Conor had to fight on 7/11. It was just a matter of whom really. If you take him off, you're giving massive refunds. Right now, it would probably be the Brazilians doing that. However, they usually show up regardless if it's a big Vegas show like 189. So they will probably stick around and support Thomas Almeida. They may also make Chad Mendes an honorary Brazilian at the weigh-ins.
  14. As much I definitely don't want it to happen, it would have made sense to pick up the audience left by The Game. It went from a random show that got cancelled by CW to being a major hit for BET. They managed to parlay that into NINE seasons, which was about seven seasons too many IMO. I think they are half way committed to that, but they need the female characters to drive it home. Right now, they have the happy, complacent wife who just wants her husband to have a decent job after football. Then, we have the racially ambiguous girl who knows her star player husband fucks around with other women and is somewhat okay with it. She just wants to spend his money. The problem with this is The Game managed to be more creative than that and actually delve more into the Lipstick Alley side. Those female characters on Ballers along with the groupie from the fatal car wreck are just awful, generic stereotypes. The Game managed to turn those stereotypes up seven notches and put them in the driver's seat of the show. They got that ball rolling way before Empire did. I like Dwayne Johnson and love most of his movies, but compared to Wendy Raquel Robinson in this capacity, he is lacking something fierce. I know she is a veteran character actress, and this is a new avenue and role for him. However, no one wants to watch him work out deals for 30 minutes when you can actually watch that stuff play out on Twitter, Fox Sports, and ESPN. Plus, we already have like 25 other fixer shows on TV. The Game is/was an awful show, but I can see why it was around for a long time. HBO better hope The Rock doesn't run into any bad scheduling conflicts because they got nothing else going for this show.
  15. Lawler/MacDonald not being promoted is mostly on them. They sent them on the media tour. Nothing to write about. I believe Rory and Robbie had open media days about few weeks ago. Rory's one at Tristar was not well-received at all from what I've heard. So yeah, if I had ten million to spend, most if not all would go to the guy or guys who actually can promote their fights.
  16. Well after today, it won't matter because it's not primarily based on the commission's effort. The new program goes into effect tomorrow. And yeah, you have to book him in title fights. However, that doesn't mean you have to put him on the biggest shows. A title fight that will potentially have a gate more than a couple million dollars like 189 where it's up to $7m? Only if it is the co-main and your only option when the real main falls through.
  17. You can start by not booking the guy who has pulled out of five title fights.
  18. Dede called Dana and said the rib injury is too painful. McGregor vs. Mendes for the interim title as discussed.
  19. So Gabriel Rosado is in a fight, and he isn't bleeding at all? This movie isn't very realistic.
  20. Update on Hendo: His name isn't on the regular drop-down menu, but you just type it in. http://www.reebok.com/us/ufc-replica-jersey/B02541.html?ufcAthlete=Dan%20Henderson%20%28USA%29|
  21. I wanted to get a Jon Jones one and got Going to send an email and see what this is all about.
  22. Former Ring of Combat champ and prospect Jimmie Rivera is replacing Ian Entwistle against Marcus Brimage.
