  1. MMAFighting.com ‏@MMAFighting 2m Court McGee returns at UFC 194 against Marcio Alexandre Jr.
  2. I don't get what is going on with Benson Henderson. He and his coach made it sound like he's prepping for a move to welterweight, but he ends up staying at lightweight. Or is he planning to leave the UFC? Unless this fight is at welterweight because I refuse to believe Thiago Alves can safely make weight. http://www.mmafighting.com/2015/8/20/9182095/benson-henderson-vs-thiago-alves-targeted-for-main-event-of-ufcs Greg Savage is still beating the drum that he is going to leave after this fight for Bellator.
  3. A legit prospect vs. legit prospect fight at UFC 194 has been made. Colby Covington will fight Warlley Alves.
  4. Ariel Helwani ‏@arielhelwani 6m Benson Henderson vs. Thiago Alves targeted for main event of UFC's South Korean debut
  5. Uriah Hall is replacing Jucao against Mousasi on the Japan card due to Jucao probably needing more surgery on his elbow.
  6. The SuperBowl and WrestleMania are built towards and you can actually map out how the company plans to get there. In addition, one has been around for several decades and been a staple of American culture for about as long. WrestleMania has been around since the 80s and had greater success recently despite some lean years the WWF/WWE had. Outside a card here and there, boxing really doesn't do stadium shows. They are much more reliant on casinos in North America now than UFC is. UFC will at least hit three or four basketball arenas before going back to Vegas. Canelo/Cotto, which would make crazy money in any stadium or arena in Hispanic heavy markets, is at Mandalay Bay. Twenty years ago, Vegas would just be one of the places that show their interest. The Klitschkos do stadiums show but that's because they had a clear ascent to the top and were able to get a certain demo. However, that is only one person now out of a few dozen notable German fighters and fighters who were born somewhere else and now claim Germany as their home. Arthur Abraham is doing like 10k seaters now. Felix Sturm is still around barely. Marco Huck left Sauerland to come the states and then got KO'd last week. The UK boxing promoters can do stadium shows once in a blue moon because they have actual domestic promoters who choose to work frequently to promote domestic talent. If the UFC decided to do showcases for a set of fighters from one area every couple months, then it would be a much different story. I mean they use to do it more clearly when they first rolled out in Brazil, but they don't do that anymore since the fan expectation is so different. Yeah, you get a few Brazilian guys who get thrown a bone every now and then on a card. However, if you suck, we're going to find out really fast. They're not going to move around the PPVs just because that Vegas gate (should it keep together) and the buyrate is going to be crazy. I think the reason why UFC 193 is a good but not crazy good card is because they know they have to put on cards for later. Melbourne was going to get the female strawweight title fight, but Claudia has to heal up and she probably won't be back until February. And that's the thing. Plans are going to change. You think you have this fight lined up, and then you don't. There are going to be several players who started the upcoming NFL regular season who play on a team that eventually goes to the Super Bowl that will be unable to be at the Super Bowl. You're seeing it now with players going down fast this current training camp. However, the TEAM is guaranteed to be there whether they have a few stars missing or not. WrestleMania is going to have a more than decent card every year no matter what because it's worked and most of the stars are expected to wrestle even if they're injured. Plus, the gravitas of the event is going to cover up some of the shortcomings. There have been sucky Super Bowls with shitty, boring teams going in that have done crazy TV ratings. The only thing the UFC has going for it is people know when those cards usually will be. Really, that's only important to us because we kinda look forward to stuff. Other than that, it's the UFC brand holding it up. That's only good for maybe 125k-200k buys to start off with. The rest they have to rely on the bouts they've booked. Yeah, they have been bidding wars on certain UFC cards. The problem is, as I stated and you've just mentioned, is it's always Vegas vs. _________. It's going to beat out Toronto, Dallas, or about anywhere else. The only thing that will beat it and just only once or twice is New York City. Boxing tried to have a renaissance in New York and Atlantic City. Then it crapped out once the economy of Atlantic City went down and the crazy business Floyd and Manny were doing regularly in Vegas. Plus, a ton of the local draws like Arturo Gatti and Felix Trinidad were ultimately put out to pasture. So then it just became the Miguel Cotto show until recently with Gennady Golovkin. If Golovkin can get a few name opponents, he will soon follow suit in the Vegas business. The UFC has Weidman and Jon Jones, but the novelty will wear off unless they keep doing consistent big cards for PPV at MSG and Barclays. Look at what happened with Montreal. They most likely won't be able to do that because Vegas is their play.

  8. It's two different markets though. In the United States, Vegas is going to win out no matter what. The only point of doing a stadium show in the US would be purely for aesthetics. What other big fights can the UFC do that won't be bid on by an MGM property (including the new AEG arena opening next year)? The UFC doesn't really do shows on Cinco de Mayo or Mexican Independence weekend. When they do, it's in Brazil like the Arlovski/Pezao card and really isn't meant to get a ton of viewers. I think they're basically hoping that bringing a title fight in an established division does business. The ticket prices are going to matter because you don't want to price anyone out in any market (unless it's a real hot ticket) especially for a stadium show. Sure, the gate is going to be a little lower but you still have a goal you want to achieve. The 70,000 number is a pipe dream. I think getting close to the UFC 129 number is realistic though if they put their weight behind it. The problem is the UFC really isn't the best local marketing company. You hear all the time for some of these international shows where people who are legit UFC fans have no idea that UFC was in their city that week. The last one being that CroCop/Gonzaga II card in Poland.
  9. So yeah, we have to refrain from tossing around dyke. Thanks.

  12. The social media account for Etihad Stadium, which seats 53,000 plus, has confirmed that UFC 193 will be held there.
  13. Just announced: Bigfoot vs. Hunt II has been added to UFC 193.
  14. Four more bouts have been added to the Sao Paulo card: two that were speculated on but weren't official and two made today. Gleison Tibau vs. Abel Trujillo and Gilbert Burns vs. Rashid Magomedov have been made official. Tom Lawlor vs. Fabio Maldonado and Viscardi Andrade vs. Gasan Umalatov were added today.
  15. MMAjunkie ‏@MMAjunkie 4m Patrick Cummins vs. Glover Teixeira added to UFC Fight Night 77 in Brazil http://dlvr.it/BtrftC via @MMAjunkie Also, Goyito Perez (yep, he's still around) will be fighting Damian Stasiak on the Monterrey card.
  16. Dominick Cruz isn't exactly cutting vintage Mid-Atlantic promos, but he is extremely poised when he talks and you can tell it's from a legitimate place. The problem is a majority of those times have been behind the analyst desk. My point is you don't have to be this fiery person if intellectually you can handle yourself. Since Brock is in the news, I'll use the Brock-Mir dynamic. You had the large monster and really threatening guy in Brock Lesnar and then you had the "I'm super smart and going to school this meathead" Frank Mir. Mir can really talk and doesn't have to be super emotional about it. Brock Lesnar did the latter for him. Outside of the cage, I believe that the problem with DJ is/was he doesn't want to make enemies from that. Going back to Cruz, you can tell he doesn't have any hesitation or qualms telling people how he feels. One of my biggest complaints early on the Fox era is that you didn't have anyone who would step away from toeing the company line. Now, you have have Dominick Cruz who is willing to destroy TUF jobbers who believe they're the best and tell them they're wrong. He will also tell Rashad Evans or someone else that their logic behind the result of a particular bout is stupid. I don't believe that Demetrious Johnson is ever going to be Mr. 500k or Better on PPV, but there is something to being a reliable, successful mid size draw. During the whole Barrera, Morales, Pacquiao, and Marquez era of sub welterweight boxing, none of those guys were drawing insane numbers. However, you could count of them doing a respectable number (rating or buyrate) everytime out. Those guys had built-in fanbases though, and Pacquiao would start building his own fighting popular Mexican fighters. DJ doesn't have a ready made fanbase or someone he can use as a launching pad so he has to do it another way. Thus, he has to be more loquacious and be more business minded. As said I before, it's not like he is far from capable of doing that. Some of the reporters and journalists who have been to the shows and dealt with him know he is. His problem is (as Sholler put it) the self edit when he gets in front of an audience. He isn't Chael Sonnen, but you don't have to be.
  17. After getting two sub 90 second wins in Bellator, Tamdan McCrory is back in the UFC and plans to fight in either October or November,

  22. Also, hopefully JDS vs. Overeem can be finalized sometime soon. JDS has said told Overeem he is ready on Twitter. There shouldn't be anymore hold up.
