  1. Those goofy looking nets would give shooters off the rush more to shoot at, no? It would make it very difficult for butterfly/positional goalies to take away almost all daylight, which is the point of introducing larger nets. While I agree that they need referees to actually make calls and consistently to eliminate all the chintzy shit defenders get away with, I don't necessarily think the issue would be solved by purely removing most of the obstruction from the game. The media reinforces a lot of the bullshit too. Healy and Johnson bitching about the blatant De La Rose trip in the third period today was shameful. They specifically said it was a trip but shouldn't be a penalty at that time of such an important game. I remember around 2011 the Sedins criticized the league for having two sets of rules: one for the regular season and another for the playoffs. They have a valid point. Players often get away with murder in the playoffs because, hey, it's the playoffs. And are you saying dudes couldn't waterski with hooks back in the day? Some of the hooking and holding players got away with in the olden days was ridiculous.
  2. Yeah, that makes a whole lot of sense. I wonder who would go the other way. Draisaitl seems to be the odd man out in terms of centremen but St. Louis would probably have to add a decent piece to Backes.
  3. This just happened. https://twitter.com/DirtbagDonny/status/592471973227266049 Cocksucker~! I saw that and just changed the jerseys in my head. Most of the top picks of the past ten years have had either that awesome speed (MacKinnon) or the skills (Tavares) but McDavid has both as those SportsNet goofs just mentioned.
  4. I was thinking about that. There's Jumbo Flames Fan and a few posters who don't post much in the forum. lol, our teams are the shits.
  5. It looked like the embedded link. We need moar golez. Have the owners/GMs seriously discussed making the nets bigger?
  6. Just copy the address bar link and remove the "s" in "https" at the beginning.
  7. Yeah, I had heard he isn't as slow as he looks but he always seemed like a lumbering ogre out there with Jackman, who isn't a good skater by any stretch either.
  8. Blues are a pretty good skating team. They did trade Roman Polak to the Leafs. That was probably due to St. Louis sleepwalking/bad tactics/injuries/Minny being hopped up.
  9. How are the Blues losing money? Shouldn't they have a strongish TV deal? They seem to do well with attendance (96% capacity). Tickets aren't cheap either. It just sunk in that I'm going to be watching Connor fucking McDavid dummy Luca Sbisa, Derek Dorsett, and Ryan Miller for the next two years. Fuck, it's going to be a rough 3-5 years before we get a really standout pick too because of the Sedins being too good.
  10. The Spengler Cup also gave us Hockey Dad. edit: Youtube apps having a replay button is the best invention. ENDLESS SPENGLER CUP MUSIC.
  11. Poisoned chalice, my man. Poisoned chalice.
  12. I think Oshie in particular holds more value than he's actually worth because of his babyshit soft hands, highlight goals, physicality relative to his size, and boyish good looks. Backes should probably go too, yup. I would love to see what Guy Boucher could do with this team. He's all about the heck of aggressive forecheck that the Blues would be somewhat familiar with. Other than Blashill (and Detroit seems like they'll turn to him should Babs jet), there aren't a lot of exciting candidates outside of the same old, so hopefully Boucher gets an offer from an NHL team soon. Armstrong will probably be gone too, I would think.
  13. Lots of blame to go around for that goal but Tank certainly didn't cover himself in glory with that backcheck.
  14. If Blues lose this, they are the new San Jose Sharks. David Backes' playoff points totals are abysmal. Funny how he goes largely unscathed in terms of criticism when the Sedins are used as pinatas for not scoring at a PPG in the playoffs. NEVER MIND THAT SHIT! GREASY GOAL!
  15. Manchester United. Also, it should be noted that the Vigneault/Luongo/Schneider love triangle back in the day started goaltenders being on such short leashes in the playoffs. CUTTING EDGE! Before that, if you made a goalie change when the score wasn't out of hand, it was like putting down a healthy dog or something.
  16. So, you have Brian Elliott as an insurance policy in case Jake Allen isn't performing and now that's 2 deflating goals Allen's surrendered in as many games. Elliott needs to start the second period. That sharp angle goal cannot happen in the playoffs. I mean, Jake Allen, man...
  17. They'll win*. *if Jake Allen is competent.
  18. Oscar fencing from a concussion was so obvious yet how long was he on the sideline? Edit: He's off to the hospital, which is certainly for the best. Why he was allowed back on in the first place is the question.
  19. Memphis/GSW is poised to be a tremendous series. This first round has had a few good games but otherwise been really lousy. Thankfully, the second round should bring it if not just for the aforementioned series and Cavs/Bulls.
  20. Hey! Corsi for the regular season (big sample size), +/- for the post-season (small sample size)! And I agree in general. I felt he was okay stopping the first shot (something Lack was struggling to do, wasn't finding the puck through traffic well at all) but was really scrambly after that. Luckily for us, Calgary missed most of the follow up shots when he was flip floppin'. Between Dorsett, Sbisa, and Miller, that's $12.2 million moving forward.
  21. I'm really disappointed that they couldn't hold either lead. Ah well. Well played, Calgary. More thoughts: after camouflaging himself as a capable goaltender for a few games, Ryan Miller shows his true form. And Derek Dorsett (Mr. 44 CF%) played more than Bo Horvat in an elimination game. Dorsett finished -2.
  22. This is the damndest game. Dominant second period possession-wise but Vancouver's still been outscored 2-1 in it. You can see why Calgary generates such high percentage chances (high scoring team with shitty possession numbers). They cycle high, near the blueline, much like Chicago, and skate with a lot of speed on the transition. It's risky but something I've been wanting to see from the Canucks since the scoring dried up in 2012. They also almost always commit a d-man on the rush - again, very risky but high rewards. Not shocked at all that they have the 2nd highest team shooting percentage 5v5.
  23. Man, this James Neal kid would look good beside Crosby or Malkin. Maybe Pittsburgh should trade for him! It's also weird that two of the best defensive teams in the league also are playing in the only really high scoring series. Keith looked drunk on that third goal.
