I don't know when the last time I saw a WWE show in MSG...but their current set just doesn't look like it would belong there. I'd hope they tone down the set for a MSG show.

I’ve been to the majority of the recent MSG shows and, nope, they use the standard set. It’s incredibly disappointing.

Then again, post renovation MSG looks the same as any other arena on the inside nowadays anyway.

Back when HHH was doing Harley Race cosplay as "touring NWA champion" Jeff Jarrett was doing the same thing in TNA and doing it better. I remember Jeff having a really good match against Wildcat Chris Harris back in the weekly ppv days that was as good a version of "Flair vs regional top babyface" as your going to see.

Jarrett vs. Jay Lethal from that era is Jarrett's best match that I've seen

  3. Speaking of commercial breaks, I think the barbed wire was *exclusively* used during the break. That’s impressive.

PPV still has a lot of unknowns. The Kenny and Britt matches, the likely tag title match with Mox and Kingston, and...Cage/Cage? Maybe a hoss daddy Miro/Archer match?

Thats 5 matches with no obvious, blow away main event. I can’t imagine Cody, Darby, Hangman, Pinnacle, IC, Death Triangle and your other big acts off the card. Are we headed toward some kind of multi man #1 contender type deal?

  4. If I'm AEW, I'd hold on debuting Bryan until you have full crowds. Could Omega/Bryan sell out a smaller stadium? Give it enough advance booking so that the international fanbase can make plans, put it in a weekend destination location like Vegas, and I'd be curious how many seats in the Raiders stadium they could sell.

Been a member of this board since September 2005 and this is the lowest interest I've seen in WWE in my time here. I understand why, I share in it. It's frustrating because you've got great talent having to navigate excrement creek without a paddle battling against a senile old man.

This might belong in the hot take thread but...Smackdown is a good show! It's definitely caught up in some anti-WWE residuals due to just how God awful Raw is.

Raw is...I don't know...just so bad. The worst it's ever been.

  6. So I watched Tenet last night. Really bad movie even if I understand it's ambition, and it got me thinking about wrestling match / movie analogies.

Tenet is definitely Orton/HHH from Wrestlemania 25 to me. For those that don't know the film, it has various time travel/entropy elements wherein more or less the action you see plays out in reverse. Reminds me a lot of that WM25 match, which attempted this sort of deconstruction of the main event style with the big finisher reversal sequence at the beginning unwinding to an extended heat segment at the end.

Both the movie and that match are novel (arguably pretentious) ideas that were poorly executed, with action playing out 'in reverse'. There's probably a joke in here about Tenet's bad sound mix and the lack of crowd heat for the WM25 match, too. Either way, both flopped.

What are some other pro wrestling match / movie comparisons?

  7. They are doing so much stuff that I thought was gonna be on DoN, on TV coming up (Blood and Guts, Cody/QT, etc) that the only two things that feels like a sure thing for the PPV are Britt/Shida and Mox/Kingston vs Bucks, maybe?

    I like the unpredictability.

    Omega wants another top title.

Oh shit, now the idea of Kenny going after *Allin's* title because he wants all da belts, only for Allin to beat the numbers game at the PPV and win (!) would be amazing as shit. Serves the purpose @Jiji mentioned about making the TNT title a peer, further establishes Allin as a top guy and doesn't impede your Kenny/Hangman world title story over the summer.

  9. Speaking of the TNT title, as we're getting closer to DoN with no clear direction for either the world title or TNT title for the show, I'd absolutely love them to somehow dust off the old Nikita Koloff "the TNT champion is the de facto number one contender" bit and run an injury or double KO angle the Dynamite before DoN, then announce that due to the Koloff rule Allin is getting a match against Kenny. Then just have them tear it right the fuck up.

I'm just a sucker for that sort of Bill Watts logical booking stuff.

  10. Dynamite doesn't have the real estate to add/feature another division. Now if you positioned one of the web based shows around another title, that'd be interesting, but it wouldn't be one that pigeon-holes you into a particular size or gender.

Like I'd be down with Elevation featuring a bunch of dudes chasing Ho Sung Pak for the Dragon Star or whatever.

Steve "Mongo" McMichael was not a bad horseman, Flair and Arn going out and getting a big, rough, tough, ex-football player as back up made sense. Now I think putting the US title on him was a  mistake, he would have been better used as an outside the ring enforcer and in multi-man tags

Man is Mongo being a good horseman a hot take? We all loved Mongo, right? I think the anti-Mongo crowd is the same early 00's IWC that hated on Sid and shit. Mongo was universally awesome.

  12. Kind of weird how life is imitating art (or vice versa) with this MJF/Jericho feud, right? Like the story is that MJF is the younger, fresher, ascendant, upgraded version (albeit a dickhead) while Jericho is holding onto whatever he has left by surrounding himself with superior talent.

And, like, in the execution of what the performers are doing on TV, from the very onset dating back to the show tune bit or whatever, MJF has indeed been that upgraded version as a performer and outclassed Jericho at absolutely everything. If I didn’t know any better I’d think it was very much intentional that he clowned Jericho on the mic last night, as an example.

The only two outs I see as viable at Blood and Guts are: (1 - preferred) Jericho goes out early and it’s Sammy as the guy that knew MJF was bullshit from the start that beats the odds and stands tall at the end or (2) MJF straight up beats Jericho, starting some kind of redemption type arc. If Jericho ends the show standing tall, it’d be pretty bullshit IMO.
