  1. I have to say I've really enjoyed the debate on the last few pages. A lot of good arguments from both sides in a civilised conversation is nice for a change. This isn't something that actually happened. You know, you could just defend Rollins and his work instead of bitching about how no one likes you or whatever.
  2. I don't think anyone acted like he was the worst thing ever. The truth is he was terribly overhyped on this board when he wasn't that good and the backlash hit him last year. He's improved a lot in the mean time.
  3. Can't we just use quality of wrestling instead? I don't like the connotations workrate brings. Look man if there are people that think there were 20 workers in WWE alone that are better than him then maybe he shouldn't be a lock for making the tournament. Just saying.
  4. I'd like to nominate Fujiwara. I mean he's got 4 super fun matches from the last few months alone. He worked almost 15 matches in the time period. And he's never been in one of these before and he isn't getting any younger. Come on.
  5. I haven't seen many pimped superstar/main event/whatever matches this year and I'm not sure there was someone like Titus last year where their case would be mostly based on that but I'm certain there are at least some folks who would take Wyatt/Rusev/Ryback etc. over Rollins as well. Harper seems like a guy who should be in but I have trouble remembering what did he do outside of his matches vs. Reigns. And there's Cesaro as well.
  6. Is about as lazy and unoriginal as a made up quote can be. There are plenty of WWE wrestlers whom I think highly of but let's just make up narratives to support your arguments, shall we? Well, 1. I can meet your hyperbole with my own. 2. I don't have an argument to support in reference to lucha - my point is that we're discussing WWE in this particular thread and we can save the ridiculous "Everyone that wrestles outside WWE is better than everyone that wrestles in WWE" stuff for the actual tournament, where it always comes up. So please - tell me which WWE wrestlers that maybe might be left out of the tournament otherwise should be inserted into Rollins's slot and why their work is better than his. Already posted something like tha a couple of pages back but here you go: Reigns-found him much more enjoyable on a week to week basis, quality matches vs Lesnar, Big Show, Wyatt and Sheamus. good punches. Lesnar-come on Cena-pretty sure only Rollins matches I liked were vs. Cena while Cena also had a plethora of good TV stuff and was probably the most compelling TV performer before he left. The Owens matches were sketchy but I enjoyed them for what they were. Sasha-come on Becky-mechanicallyy the best female worker on the main roster right now. The Sasha match from NXT I liked better than almost anything Rollins did and in sheer volume of stuff she had I enjoyed she beats him easily Bayley-come on Ambrose-I like Rollins more. Ambrose is probably my least favourite wrestler in the WWE right now. But he wasn't injured for nearly as long and also I'm looking forward to piranesi's posts in the MM threads Owens-not terribly big on him either. Wouldn't care too much if Rollins got the spot instead of him. I will say I like Owens a lot more as a presence and a character than Rollins. And also he didn't spend any time out with an injury. Balor-someone for whom I also don't care. But he at least wasn't injured for a significant amount of time and other people like him so....... Kalisto-always good, has really broken out with the singles push and has been putting on great TV performances and matches regularly, if he keeps it up I could see him being a major player in next years' MM Kana/Asuka-consistently carrying lesser opponents to neat stuff, always entertaining, also has some good pre-WWE stuff Joe-Was his brief ROH run post-march? He looked great there. He's been enjoyable in NXT even if still clearly a step or two below peak Joe. No major injury to speak of. No terrible 35 minute Triple tribute ladder match vs. Ambrose. No match where he tried to break a 56 year old man's neck. Yep. I'm good with ranking Joe over Rollins.
  7. Oh fuck off mate. Is about as lazy and unoriginal as a made up quote can be. There are plenty of WWE wrestlers whom I think highly of but let's just make up narratives to support your arguments, shall we? Uhm it doesn't. Unless you presume everyone in WWE is a subpar spot worker which is just laughable.
  8. It's not that Rollins sucks conventionally-like he isn't obviously incompetent like Eva Marie or The Great Khali-but he just isn't very good. He's a spot worker without impressive spots or good psychology. There are probably 20 lucha guys alone who are much better than him at what he does unless you value terrible WWE character work like yelling "I'M THE MAN, STAND DOWN" etc. mid-match.
  9. Or have them clash in the first round....
  10. For some people it's that they think his offence looks weak. For some it's that they don't like his selling. For some it's that the modern New Japan "epic" formula doesn't interest them anymore after they've had the same exact matches for three years.
  11. Kensuke Sasaki and Takayama have already done that.
  12. I mentioned him but I'd be more than happy if his spot went to Kazuki Hashimoto or HASEGAWA. Matt is missing out on some good fat wrestler action. Someone else can go bat for Akebono and Ryota Hama though. I think Okada is kind of a total is greater than the sum of his parts type of wrestler. If you look at everything he does in a match and analyze his selling, psychology, and what ever else it doesn't look like he's that great of a wrestler, but his matches are always good. I know we overanalyze everything around here, but he wouldn't constantly be in really good to great matches if he wasn't really good to great himself. I tend to like all of his matches, despite the fact that I feel l ike he should sell more and vary his offense based on his opponents limb work. This is a line of thinking I can't really get behind, but nonetheless I assure you most people's dislike of Okada has absolutely nothing to do with overanalysis.
  13. Kamitani is your generic Big Japan STRONG dude so his inclusion is definitely a good thing. I love Super Tiger II but I have no idea how he'll wrestle in All Japan. I loved him in Battlarts and IGF.
  14. I mentioned him but I'd be more than happy if his spot went to Kazuki Hashimoto or HASEGAWA. Matt is missing out on some good fat wrestler action. Someone else can go bat for Akebono and Ryota Hama though.
  15. Nominating: Daisuke Sekimoto & Kohei Sato vs Yuji Okabayashi & Ryoji Sai-ZERO-1 (1/1) You know what you're forgetting from this line up. Fairly standard and formulaic STRONGHT tag but it is a formula I like a lot and whatever faults you might usually find in these types of matches (no-selling, getting stuff in for its own sake) were absent here. Yuji Okabayashi vs Ryota Hama-BJW (1/24) There are certain expectations I have of you, Death Valley Driver Video Review Message Board poster. Like enjoying a good hoss fight. And a good old fashioned FAT wrestler. This match combines both. Let's face it-Hama isn't going to do much, but there are efficient ways to work around that. They chose the right one-having long, meaningful control segments that both established Hama's dominance and size. Hama's weight was so impressive the audience left out a collective OOOOOOOH when it was announced, and it makes the simplest moves look like killer. Okabayashi's gradual comeback was very well done, played off of what they had established and hit the sweet spot in its duration.
  16. Isami Kodaka vs. Konosuke Takeshita (DDT 1/3)-YES Really enjoyed it, doubt it will a serious MOTYC by the end of the year or anything like that and the opening matwork and strike exchanges could've been better but once they went went into a higher gear it become loads of fun. I found the addition of RINGS and Battlarts tribute spots to the indy style highly amusing. Ryota Nakatsu vs. Ikuto Hidaka (BASARA 1/21)-NO Firstly-credit where credit is due-the commentator said Nakatsu's style is Data Pro Wrestling which was an amazing Prince Of Tennis reference. I like Ikuto Hidaka but he isn't one for rookie punishment matches. I enjoyed this when they started doing Battlarts Junior wrestling but the first half was inconsequential, uninspiring and unnecessary.
  17. I just checked my list of things I've seen and in the eligible period Suzuki has matches vs. Masakatsu Funaki, Nakanoueno, several vs KAI and vs Ryota Hama. For some reason I thought that was all in the period for the previous MM so yeah he should be there too. Also has the Masato Tanaka match we've expressed our love for in the YES/NO section. edit: Yano Toru should be in as well. I also forgot Yuji Hino.
  18. Figured someone could/would bat for him anway. I don't think much of him. Not sure I'll have the time but ideally I'd like to track down enough Hideki Suzuki stuff to argue for him as well.
  19. I'm gonna read the rest of the thread now but is there really any point in including like......fucking Stardust or Curtis Axel or whomever? Reigns Lesnar Cena Sasha Becky Bayley Ambrose Owens Balor Kalisto something new day edit: I'd add Kana/Asuka as well. maybe Joe too but that's it. Ok trying to think of people that weren't hurt much during the period was tough. But anyway I think that's pretty much it regarding folks people would really go bat for. Look I like Baron Corbin screaming at ex indy guys but I'd be much cooler if his spot went to like, Triton or someone like that.
  20. Folks I think should absolutely be included this year: Jun Akiyama Meiko Satomura Shuji Ishikawa HARASHIMA Minoru Suzuki Yuji Okabayashi Kento Miyahara Kairi Hojo New Japan folks I think should be in: are we counting Nak and AJ? well they should be in anyway Honma Ishii Shibata Ibushi (hopefully he will make his return soon but I think he should be in anyway. probably.) Naito KUSHIDA urgh......okada tanahashi........urgh Not sure how many spots there were last year for japanese workers so...
  21. At my current rate I will have made six million dollars in about 130 years. If I'm getting by parsing it out like that, he can scrape by with his only online subscriptions being1) WWE Network 2) Cider-Press.com Gold Premium Brie still gets an employee discount on the Network at least. So there's that.Don't employees get it for free? Bryan needs New Japan World and nwaclassics anyway.
  22. Isn't BASARA affiliated with DDT? That's why I added the "friends" part in the other nomination thread.
