Consider me fully wadded! I've gotta strongly respectfully disagree on that one. And that's nothing against an Uso whatsoever - I just think Starks' stock is on the rise huge.

I do think Starks will be a star too. I just don’t think he’ll hit the levels that Jey is presently hitting. Then again my favorite wrestler that seems to be exclusive to Collision is Jay White so maybe I’m just being critical that he’s not getting the push opposite of Punk.

And thank you for being respectful. I like being able to have a nice discussion whenever possible.

What have they done with Drake though? I know LA Knight gets big pops and the fans love him to death, but if previous WWE history is any indication they're just going to punish him for getting over too organically.

As for "top WWE star" Rob Eckos... not only did I literally not know he was even with the company, I don't think I'd survive if you put a gun to my head and told me to pick him out of a lineup.

I love how he claims a reject from TNA that’s on NXT as a parody of Tony Khan is a “top star”. Robert Stone isn’t remotely over or anywhere near star level.

The true top stars are Roman, Seth, Both USOs, Judgment Day (as a whole), and Sami/KO. Hell you can tell Jey Uso is over when Ian tried stealing his nickname for Ricky Starks on Collision this week (Main Event). And before someone gets their panties in a wad no “Stroke Daddy” isn’t a bigger star nor does he have more IT factor than Jey Uso. Just because Drew wants Ricky to stroke him doesn’t mean he’s that level.

Aren't you the guy who judges wrestlers by how many muscles they have?

He’s also the guy that’s so stuck on Ricky Starks that he’s insisting they put both world titles on him despite Starks being a lesser version of LA Knight who to me still seems like he’s cosplaying as both The Rock and Stone Cold.

Or in this weeks tv thread showing how delusional he is by saying take MJFs belt and putting it on Starks shows a youth movement despite Starks being 6 years older than Max, and only one year younger than his mortal enemy and the guy that’s doing the truly elite work on Wednesday and Saturday nights alongside Max. Then wishing that Buddy I’m a 34 year old Matthews gets the international title like 34 is somehow youth movement too.

I think if we’re asking for a youth movement then Darby needs to be the guy people use as the example not two thirty something’s who haven’t yet shown they can be main event guys without being attached to Seth Rollins or getting a stop and start push while staring at their hand like a goof doing their entrance.

Oh hey @just drew sorry to hurt your feelings but I’m sure Stroke Daddy knows how to make you feel special and good.

Sorry I’m just replying now. You’d asked how I’d rank Omega/Okada and I’d rank the four bouts the same way you did. However I do think you’re being a bit generous here to say Okada/Danielson was as good as Omega/Ospreay 2. Even if Dave overrated it (I don’t think he did) the two matches weren’t of equal quality. Bryan winning felt like a given with this being an AEW show plus Kenny having already lost too. I give him all the credit in the world for the last ten minutes, but that doesn’t beat out a damn near perfect match from two of the best in the world (I can sooner see Ospreay as that than current Punk too).

  5. I’m not going to post a lot since most of my thoughts have already been shared by others. I will say to me the three best matches of the night were (in order of best to third best):

    Omega vs Ospreay

Orange Cassidy vs Zack Sabre Jr vs Katsuyori Shibata vs Daniel Garcia

    The Elite/Tomohiro Ishii/Eddie Kingston vs The BCC/Shota Umino/Konosuke Takashita

I’d definitely give CM Punk vs Satoshi Kojima an honorable mention though as I felt like that way overdelivered. I’ve not seen a Kojima match since he was last in Impact, and that was really great.

As for the most disappointing match I’d say that goes to Jungle Boy and Sanada. I’ve seen Sanada live before, and I thought he was better than what he showed last night. The highlight of that match for me was Red Shoes, and the crowd reaction he got.

Honestly even if they’d only aired the top two matches I listed I’d have felt like I got my $50 worth and then some. I hope they run Omega vs Ospreay two out of three falls (as someone else suggested) at All In, and let them go for 60-75 minutes if they want. And to me last night cemented Kenny as being the true Best In The World (sorry @The Natural but I’d take any of Kenny’s Okada matches over the main event, and I’m not sure Bryan could match the two Ospreay matches from this year) on a night that featured two others who make that claim. I think it’s a safe bet Ospreay agrees as I see in his tweet today he mentioned everyone in the company being “All Elite” but Kenny is “Above Elite”.

LA Knight for Mr. Money in the Bank. YEAH!

I don’t see it unless they decide to have him beat Seth. He’s over with the “Yeah” stuff, but he’s clearly (as are the rest of that field) not getting near Romans belt. Plus I’m not sure he gets cheered over Seth.

Honestly I had a hell of a time making the list. I wanted to include the Clash of the Champions match with Jey, and the (imo) excellent Smackdown match Roman had with Riddle last year. But with only having ten spots I had to cut them.

Yeah, WWE’s celebrity boot camp is a totally different thing from the PC training system. Shane Helms is widely credited as Paul’s lead trainer, and Brian Kendrick had the lead on getting Bad Bunny ready for Backlash. Both are main roster agents, not PC trainers.

Plus Shane Helms has always been underrated. It’s no wonder Logan Paul is so good.

Agreed on all counts. Be interesting to see who gets Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes after SummerSlam and building towards WrestleMania XL. Roman is easier: vs. Jey, vs. Jimmy, teaming with Solo vs. Usos and then Roman vs. Solo. Could always go back to Sami/Owens but that's been done already and I don't think you can recapture those highs, can't have Sami losing again. Sami winning would be bigger than Owens. As for Cody Rhodes in the meantime, I can see Cody vs. GUNTHER and Cody vs. AJ Styles. You can't have Cody winning the World Heavyweight Championship from Seth Rollins, it has to be Reigns' Undisputed WWE Universal Championship which includes the belt Dusty never won. I don't think you can recapture that striking when the irons hot which Sami had at Elimination Chamber and Cody at WrestleMania XXXIX. Everybody thought Cody was winning there. Look at what happened to Tetsuya Naito, everyone thought he was winning the IWGP Heavyweight Championship from Kazuchika Okada at Wrestle Kingdom 12 but he retained and Naito won it two years later at Wrestle Kingdom 14. Wrestle Kingdom 12 was the time.

I’d give your post 1,000 likes if I could. The Naito comparison in particular is perfect. It applies to both Cody and Sami, and is why I’m not sure they don’t swerve us and have Seth defeat Roman instead. Plus we’ve been told how many times that Seth is Triple H’s “guy”.

When Roman Reigns surprisingly retained at WrestleMania XXXIX, I thought it would be Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes II at SummerSlam either by the match getting booked or Rhodes winning MITB and announcing in advance the SummerSlam match. I don't see Reigns losing the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship till WrestleMania XL. I want Reigns to drop it either to Rhodes, Sami Zayn or Jey Uso. I think it'll be Rhodes at WM XL.

We’re in agreement on when and to whom he’ll lose it, but I still wouldn’t be shocked if they keep kicking the can further down the road.

I think they need to have a really good plan for how to keep Cody hot between SummerSlam and XL too as the Brock feud will (should) be done after SummerSlam. And I can’t see them doing the old Rhodes staple of Team Cody vs Team Roman at SurvivorSeries in WarGames as Roman doesn’t have enough of his family still with him. It’s definitely going to be interesting to see what road they give Cody, and if fans don’t decide they want Seth or Sami instead (I still don’t think they’re done with Seth vs Roman after the promo Seth and Heyman had on Raw awhile back).

aren’t those two cases moreso them getting individual training sessions with people like Shawn Michaels, rather than actually doing the full PC training thing? Logan Paul isn’t at the training center every day of the week doing drills with Wes Lee or whoever while fuckin’ Albert is watching from the outside of the ring. Bad Bunny isn’t waiting in line to practice top rope moves on a crash pad while Noam Dar does a shooting star or something. Neither of them are attending promo classes with the rest of the PC students or NXT talent.

I think that’s a huge stretch to call them PC successes, IMO.

If we’re using those two then McAfee should be near the top too. But I think it’s silly to claim guys that are only there for what a week or two at a time, count as successes.

And you’re 100% right. There’s no way in hell Logan Paul or Bad Bunny are waiting to train. Plus they both always get put in the ring with top in ring stars that can make them look like a million bucks. I’m sure there’s other PC talents that could including ones on the main roster (Montez Ford in particular).

Remember when Cody Rhodes said “There you’ll be a man without a family, a Roman with no more reigns, a chief without a tribe."

Sami Zayn: "Hey, Roman. You know it's over, right? You know the Bloodline is collapsing and it's all your fault."

But will it matter when his last reign (I’m assuming this might be it) goes on for three plus years after Cody said that? I’d like to think they’ll move the belt onto someone by WM40 at the latest, but I just don’t see it. And if it’s not Sami to do it then I think they’ve really missed the boat (again).

For a dude who was born in 1981, TK's eclectic selection of Classic Rock station hits is amazing.

However, why hasn't this fucker gotten the rights to AC/DC's If You Want Blood (You've Got It) for Blood & Guts? It's right there.

I’m two years younger than TK and two of the best concerts I’ve ever been to have been within the last year and they’re all older acts too (Toto & Journey, and Elton John). I swear when Toto started playing Africa that’s the loudest I’ve ever heard (in person) a concert crowd get. It’s like everyone had to know it was coming because they had played all their other hits and it was time for Journey to come out, but it was still incredible to hear how loud they got the minute the music hit.

Jarrett is when he has his own little TNA/Memphis segment and not the whole focal point of a show promotion. Similarly to how some of us feel about the elite

Oh yeah. That’s what I meant. I like Jarrett, but only when he’s not the main focus of a company/show. His reign of terror in TNA was awful, and I’ll be the first to say that. Having met him at a TNA house show I’ll say he’s one of the nicest wrestling performers I’ve ever met though (I had on a Lakers hoodie, and he spent about five minutes discussing basketball with me. Which was really cool, and unexpected).

At this point, Khan deserves any and all fallout from kowtowing to Punk at every single juncture.

Which is what tells me Max won’t leave. He seems like the type that’s going to try to work this into an angle, then when he and Punk don’t draw the kind of money they expect he’ll be shocked. Plus if the Elite go you know Khan will just give Max the CM Punk treatment of kissing his butt at every turn.

Takeashit and Bandaido are two guys that I was aware of and liked watching before they came to AEW but since arriving they have become two guys I LOVE watching. Two guys I am always STOKED to watch. So I am PARTICULARLY STOKED to watch them fight each other.

Jeff Jarrett is a dude I irrationally despise and I dearly wish he'd never shown up in AEW and I have enjoyed NOTHING that he has done in AEW so far and I am BAFFLED that so many people seem to unironically find him entertaining. HOWEVER I am NOT going to pretend here: Lethal and Jarrett and Karen Angle vs Papa Briscoe and Mark Bricoe and Referee Aubrey Edwards is so utterly bonkers that even I, an unrepentant incorrigible hater, am very interested to see what happens here. I kind of hope Aubrey either pins Jarrett or makes Jarrett tap out clean and if that happens... I'll still probably go straight back to hating him. Irrational is as irrational does. Just because I put Drew on ignore does not mean that I have no Drew in my soul.

I don't give a fuck about Taya. Don't hate her in any way, just don't care. I sincerely wish AEW had hired Nicole Matthews instead. Nicole Matthews is fucking great.

CHAOS vs United Empire in an AEW ring on an AEW show! Oh. Hell. Yeah. Presumably the bessfrenz version of CHAOS, but still. (But still? But: AWESOME)

     giphy.gif

I mark out every time Rocky shows up in AEW and if Jeff Cobb shows up on the other side I'll f'n lose it.

    (I'm going to lose it).

(About time I lost it, particularly considering I am in my late 50s and the father of two wonderful daughters).

Bout a million times more stoked for this nutzoid hour of wrestling than for the day after tomorrow's debut of The CM Punk Show. Personally. I'm more curious for that one than I am stoked.

I am kind of hoping Punk comes out all humble and apologises for everything. I won't know WHAT to do if that happens.

Jeff Cobb yeeting Rocky is going to be SO AWESOME! Young Konosuke gonna spend a full minute upside-down. Pro wrestling sure can be great sometimes. Sometimes meaning several times a week every single week, lately.

Dang I finally found one thing we don’t agree on (Jeff Jarrett). But I’m not going to lie. I’m hoping for the same outcome as you to the 6 person tag. Aubrey should definitely get the win for her team.

Oh and Jeff Cobb love is always good. I miss seeing him weekly (or even bi-weekly) like during his Lucha Underground run. He’s easily in my top 10 favorite active wrestlers.

AEW was hoping that the comments CM Punk made about Hangman Adam Page in his upcoming ESPN Interview would not be part of the article/video Largely because AEW is actively trying to sign Page to a new long-term deal. There was an attempt at damage control going on. - WON.

I’m glad to see Meltzer (and you) pointing out the obvious. That this isn’t “Punk working a storyline or trying to draw money” it’s him being a bitter old man, and it could (and should if WWE offers more money) bite Khan in the rear end.

To me losing Hangman is a much bigger deal than losing Max. Especially since losing him would suggest Kenny and the Jackson’s leave too.

So that means he's "Pro Wrestling 6 foot."

I'm still salty about that show.  My roommate and I bought front row tickets as soon as they went on sale in like January.  We were so psyched for months, just fucking HYPED about our front row PPV seats.

Then they put two new rows of seats packed with of athletic commission people, dignitaries, and assorted bootlickers in front of us.  Fuuuuuuck.

If I pause it just right, I can still catch 1994 me on Peacock.

Okay I didn’t expect this reply, and I’m gonna say you should win today just for referencing the assorted bootlickers. I’m watching Justified for the first time, and that totally fits with what you’re saying.

That’s so stupid too putting athletic commission people there. I always thought they just had a physician backstage.

  23.

People have been talking about it on Twitter. And a time that happened in April during a verbal confrontation between Jack, Sammy and Darby. The show goes up on NJPW World for Japan-based viewers about half a day later and I didn't see it pop up at all. I checked the other show and I didn't see it then either.

So that’s twice during Darby segments then. I wonder who or what it’s for then.
