AEW NEWS - JULY 2025
ExcellenceofAirPollution replied to Dolfan in NYC's topic in ALL ELITE WRESTLING
I stopped caring about Punk the moment he was out of my (AEW) life. I enjoy the schadenfreude of him conforming in WWE from afar but not enough to post about it much if at all However, I feel like we need the occasional posts like the prior that sent everyone into a tizzy. I 100% concur! He went overboard for dramatic effect, people need to chill the fuck out. When I see posts telling someone to 'get help' or 'quit the board' because they made a funny post about Phil Brooks I think y'all are the ones that need the help just drew here is the real voice of the voiceless. Keep up the good fight my man! I got your back! -

I watched the show live on Saturday, had a blast. The length doesn't bother me as much when the show starts in the afternoon and I'm blocking out most of the day for it. I even watched the pre-show. When the show was over I ate dinner and was asleep before 11. I'd be down with that for more big shows, going past midnight on Sundays is insane Thought the stadium looked and sounded great on TV. The pops when Hangman won and when he finally opened the briefcase were MASSIVE, getting chills just thinking about it. I'm planning to rewatch it in the next couple days because I was so into everything it's hard to rate stuff, but watching live the main event and the Bucks tag were my favorites. I know some people thought Mox might win and I think it's amazing that AEW was able to do that, but for me I genuinely thought the Bucks and Mercedes were going to win, and I was 50/50 on Omega/Okada......so it was pretty amazing to actually be on the edge of my seat for the near falls in several matches and also to be genuinely surprised (to a degree, those matches were all tossups IMO) by the results......and not in the "WWE did a stupid booking thing to swerve everyone" kind of way. There was no wrong way to go with the result of any of those matches. Cole stuff was a mega bummer. I was actually looking forward to that match despite not being the biggest Cole fan because I've been enjoying his work lately and they had good chemistry. When I saw Dustin was in the match it seemed obvious to me that he would win. Someone criticized the booking several pages back and I don't get that at all. It's a lemonade from lemons situation, the story of Dustin finally winning the TNT title....in TEXAS....literally dropped into their laps. Whoever came up with the idea kudos, because there's an old promoter's adage that when you have to disappoint the fans due to something out of your control it's important to make it up to them with a big surprise or a big happening and this was that to a T. Fletcher can beat Dustin for the belt in a month or whatever and it will be more meaningful. Everything has been covered for the most part....I just want to add that I appreciate the continuity with Roderick Strong and BEAST~!!! reunion in the Casino Gauntlet!! I'm one of the dozens who loved that little piece of business, a nice easter egg for the Collision sickos. Alas Mortos did not feel the same as my man Roddy.... -
If Hangman is winning the belt I like the idea of Swerve and Ospreay not being able to challenge for a year. It takes a page from the Cody playbook. Plus it builds major tension between the two of them and adds to what I think is already a cool dynamic between them. As a consolation they can challenge Hurt Syndicate, because at this point a super team is the only way to go to get the belts off them (I'd hate them losing in the 3 way without getting beat), and it's a lot easier for Will/Swerve to lose to FTR or Christian/Wayne or whoever down the line. Plus Swerve still hasn't gotten revenge on Lashley and I'd like to see them revisit that before the year is out It would also put a lot of heat on the Owen next year if both enter to get the title shot. Swerve/Ospreay Owen finals? Are we booking this far out? I hope so

I thought it was odd Briscoe didn't come out to save JetSpeed considering he was just out there seconds earlier talking trash to MJF....... I've been enjoying the shows a lot lately but I think the best thing is THE FEELING IS BACK(pretend there's a trademark symbol here)!!!!!! Another red hot crowd tonight!!! They even got into Bowens during the match!!! (I like Bowens but he hasn't gotten over with the new gimmick yet, crickets on the entrance) I didn't catch the show live but by 11:45 pm it was up on MAX without commercials. They're never typically that fast at cutting the show. Did the Bucks video lead into a break and return from one? Felt like a cut in the middle

Have you not been watching Ricochet this year? Half his act now is playing to and interacting with the crowd. "Bald" is his "Kyle". I think we can safely put the 'Ricochet has no charisma' shit to bed at this point AEW crowds are the fucking best. I was enjoying the Kyle chants and then out of nowhere they start chanting WE KYLE PEOPLE....WE KYLE PEOPLE and I fucking DIED Fuck, the Mexican crowd a couple weeks ago was chanting 'FUCK YOU YUTA'. He's an internationally recognized little shit!

But how can that be??? I just read from some esteemed, no doubt well sourced DVDVR poster the other day that this show was on the verge of being some sort of disastrous flop!!!! -
Mistico was teetering when he went to the ropes for the first time, so Blake just yanked him down to the mat and took over. It felt early like the shit they were trying wasn't working so Blake would just resort to control, and it was only like a 5 minute match so he ended up taking most of it lol Mistico is still good, MJF is great, I've got high hopes for that match

If it turns out WWE let Truth go and then ended up giving him a raise to come back just to keep him from AEW BWAHAHAHAAahahhaha all part of the show..... edit* actually, you know what.....I just thought about it and it's possible WWE could have astroturfed the whole "JUSTICE FOR TRUTH" movement via social media and plants in the crowd. their audience seems more pliable and easily coerced than ever, maybe I wasn't giving them enough credit........ because on the surface it being a work makes no fucking sense. and even astroturfing it doesn't really make sense, because why? feels more Matt Hardy -
Did Hayter herself mix this? I didn't know there was a pt. 1 I've been listening a bit....it's not bad if you're into that sort of thing. Start at 8:25 to hear a sped up/chopped Swerve's theme eventually transition into PAC's. Neat!

Was able to watch Dynamite but not Collision. I'm trying to avoid spoilers so not posting in weekly tv thread. really annoyed with MAX not having the Collision half of Fyter Fest up yet. Dynamite was up no problem. I know it wasn't Collision's normal night but both shows aired live and replays are usually up fast, what's the hold up? was anyone able to watch the full 4 hours live on MAX?

June 2025 Wrestling Talk

I glanced at this and thought it said 'motivational circuit' I bet he'd make a Ron Killings at that too. I'll see myself out. -
I'm like a lot of people here, saw him in the magazines before I saw him on tape. They built him up as a wildman in the way his uncle and Abdullah were in the 70's/80's, and when I finally saw him he didn't disappoint. I've long advocated for him to be in the WON HOF, and expect people to revisit him as a candidate and he'll be in The "controversy" on his last match is pretty overblown IMO. I've never used Kratom but you can buy it all over and I generally know it as a shitty drug teenagers abuse. It was basically every indy match with an old guy. He probably shouldn't have been doing it, but he went out there for the payday, and promoters/commissions don't care if a guy can barely move. It's sad, and this was higher profile, but it's literally every weekend on the indies with somebody, they're all playing roulette, and there's no indication yet it directly led to his death. I heard he'd done appearances since then and seemed like himself. Warrior went out and cut a couple promos and died. We don't know if it's darker yet, but sometimes when it's your time it's your time.

Just watched Dynamite. Fun show, great venue. Sorry @southofheavy got screwed out of working/going to the show, but that's a damn cool venue to work at! Bucks and Ricochet are really fun together. Match was a blast and I like the Bucks getting one up on Swerve again Bout to watch Collision. I heard Meltzer say Dynamite wasn't sold out and Collision was behind that, but I thought the crowd looked good on TV and were pretty loud. It's fresh so be interesting to compare shows
-
part of the fun of Nitro was the massive roster (not good for the bottom line) and the seemingly random matches that would occur involving big stars and oddballs. Lex Luger vs. a Villano? Sure, why not! Chono is on tour from Japan and he's wrestling Roadblock? Yes please! Hey, Marty Jannetty's back! It was random and wacky at times in a way AEW could never be. Well, they kinda can be in their own ways, but the wrestling landscape is totally different And that show where Benoit/Jericho won the tag titles is widely considered one of the best episodes of WWE TV ever from one of the best creative years of WWE ever.....not fair to "randomly" pick that one to compare to Dynamite
-
I like Marina the bodyguard a lot. It's Chyna-esque. I kinda get the hate, but not really. Why does everyone need to wrestle? Like seriously, wrestling has been full of "non-wrestlers" who hang around forever She doesn't need to be wrestling straight matches, and it's easy enough to come up with some contractual reason why she'll only agree to "fights" but not sanctioned matches or some shit. It's wrestling, you can literally do anything you want and make it work

Brilliant use of the boardwalk! AEW is always good about taping this arena/venue/area specific stuff (Hangman and MJF arrivals at a unique venue that I can't remember off the top of my head a while back, backstage shots in cool areas of buildings etc.).......only problem is most people don't see this stuff. This video should be going viral! I love how it's all over nothing. What the hell are you running from Max??? lmao
-
He's been entertaining with this gimmick since before The Acclaimed broke up, was cracking me up in some of their backstage segments with his detached from reality aloofness and arrogance. Like sometimes you can't tell if he's in on the joke or not (in character), and it makes it even funnier. Not sure where it goes or how much shelf life it has but hes a charismatic and funny guy and it's a good showcase for that I feel like his best bet is getting paired with someone bigger and more credible as his muscle with Max as more of a hype man/tag wrestler. Could also see a Honky Man type reign with the TNT title, but he doesn't even have that level of credibility right now

King Kota, please and thank you

Another fun Dynamite. 8 man was a little too cute at points but I loved the pumphandle arm breaker spot getting reversed onto Ricochet and the bald related shenanigans that ensued......leading to him and Matt making up and busting out the first ever (?) back to back, my hair un-balds you pose spot........utterly ridiculous and I loved every second of it Show was worth watching just for Toni spazzing out to Jamie Hayter's music. I feel like she might have done that before, but we need gifs of that Yamashita impressed me, but I found fault with the tactics of her offensive assault. A little bummed she didn't win. Maybe the dairy air of Virginia threw her off her game. Death Riders aesthetic is improved without Pac there. It got weird seeing him hopping in and out of trucks in his underwear I thought Hangman and Fletcher started a bit slow but it turned into a hell of a match. Hanger and Ospreay feels like a huge match, don't think they've had much interaction

random thought as I'm about to watch Collision on MAX AEW needs to update their graphics. The graphic for Collision has Christian in the center and larger than everyone else, surrounded by Mariah May (presumably gone and possibly dead in AEW canon), Darby (on Mt. Everest, godspeed), Orange Cassidy and Willow Nightengale. You're definitely not getting at least two of them on any current episode of Collision, and it's an odd group to feature regardless Dynamite by contrast features Mercedes, Swerve, Mox, MJF and Ospreay all at equal sizes. A much better representation of current AEW and who you can expect to see on the show
