  1. I don't recall the particular NXT match, but somewhere Billie got kicked in the head with a Pele kick of sorts and her selling of it was one of the most legit hilarious things (and I mean intentionally hilarious) things I have seen. I believe that was the specific moment I was sold on those two!

Tully was fired after this match too.  Even though other matches aired later, this was Tully's last WWF match and aside from one shots, the end of his mainstream career.  The SNME where Heenan fires the Busters had been taped the day before.  No way was Warrior giving him much of anything.

Yeah, I was surprised how much Tully got (well got to do, more accurately). Warrior shrugged pretty much everything off, but at least Tully got some ineffective offence on him and got to bump like a pinball for a bit. I figured this had to Tully's last WWF match, that's why I wondered if the match even ever took place as scheduled.

If the circumstances were different, I still feel they had a way better match in them, if allowed.

Catching up on wrestling news but FWIW I'm with you on that. If true lock his ass up and dish out justice. If he made it up then he needs help and needs to be forced offline.

I wonder at what point is Marty going to try and backpedal out of this one? I mean, if it's even partially true, it will probably not go away, try as he might. But the last time that I'm aware of when he said some highly questionable stuff online, he tried to say afterwards that he was hacked. That seems to be the standard explanation in similar situations, but I don't see many people buying that this time around. I have a feeling he will be forced offline by family or authorities in the near future.

  4. Too bad there was no main character on B&B by the name of Pat, because then McAfee could have teamed with Shane THORNE and RIDGE Holland as the Bold, Beautiful and Bunghole, maybe? Hell, those three even resemble each other facially somewhat, so they'd even look like a team.

To be fair, it's not like anyone in the back likes the UE either, so it shouldn't be that hard to find a couple of dudes with grudges.

I bet you could get Shane Thorne to team up with him. He'd probably team with anyone and not ask questions, just to get more opportunities at this point. Not to mention there are plenty of guys behind the plexiglass, who'd probably stab HBK in his good eye, just to get some TV time inside the ring!

Ah, I misread the original post. Thought it was the other way around. I love that Brock/Bryan match. Bryan went on so hated only to have the crowd rooting for by the time it ended.

Didn't he though? That was amazing to see! As I said, I was all like "shut up, I don't want there to be a another generation on this planet" in the beginning and all like "c'mon Bryan, stomp the crap out of that Cro-Magnon!" by the end! Very hard to boo him in that situation!

Uhm, Finn was the face in the Brock match. Brock/Bryan both were heels going in.

Yes, this was why I said I'd like to agree, but the actual topic was a big face against a small heel. That is a very unusual situation, but I do have to say you are absolutely correct about Bryan being a defacto heel going into the match against Brock, but go ahead, try booing him in that situation.

  8. I'd like to agree with Brock v Finn and Brock v Bryan, but it was big face against small heel, but if the roles were reversed, as they usually are, those two are amazing! Owen was a heel in the states when facing a then babyface Vader in the UK ppv, while treated as a face in the actual match by the UK audience.

  9. As I told in another thread I've been watching '89 Prime Time and it was mildly amusing when Roddy Piper was all aghast and stuff when Bobby Heenan dropped that classic vaguely offensive joke about Tito, a cueball, hitting and English language. He was all like "That wasn't very nice" with pretty much Owen Hart -voice, and this is after spewing out all kinds of homophobic stuff about just about every heel on the show up to that point. I guess that's how the cookie crumbled back in '89. Still, rather problematic, as it the saying seems to go, nowadays.

  10. Wow! Thank you very much!

Yeah, aside from the no-selling of the sling-shot suplex not happening, this was about as good as it could have been! And as a side-note, the opening match must have been the biggest pinfall victory for Tito since like '86! The only other worthwhile stuff he got was the aforementioned SurSer'90 dq victory and the susequent pinfall of the Warlord in the finals! Good for him, I guess?

  11. You can argue the semantics as this was in the UK, but Vader vs Owen Hart from One Night Only UK PPV from 1997 is really good. Probably nowhere near the actual best but must be in the discussion. This topic came to me as well recently, as I described the Keith Lee vs Adam Cole match to my lapsed fan friend as "the love child of Ahmed Johnson and Vader facing the love child of HBK and the 123-Kid, and the skinny one is the heel!"

  12. Hi guys! After 18 years or so of lurking I finally got around to actually sign up. I was watching some '89 Prime Time on the Network and prior to Survivor Series'89 they were promoting a special with singles matches between the opposing teams. One of the promoted matches was to be Ultimate Warrior vs Tully Blanchard! Did this match ever actually take place? The special in question isn't on the Network, but that would pretty much be the most intriquing match they could possibly think up!

However, knowing WWF at the time (well, knowing WWE, period) the match would probably be sub 1-minute squash. But think, if you will, how good the match could actually be, if they gave it some 8 minutes and Warrior was willing to sell and bump for Tully like he did for Rude some 2-3 months prior? I'm talking taking a slingshot suplex for a close two followed by a comeback with the usual spots for the victory.

I guess the actual old school question is whether the match ever actually happened, since Tully got fired prior to the actual PPV, or was it replaced by something else? The what if (that would belong to another thread) is that how awesome could that particular match have been, if Warrior was willing and Tully was able?

I've been wondering about this one for a few weeks now, thanks for the info, if you have any!
