Pretty much exactly what you think. Love Jake Atlas, hate that WWE are refusing to acknowledge his identity. They let him cut promos about breaking barriers and making an example, but don't say which barriers, or who he's making an example for.

Although AEW doesn't get a pass there either, given that they've barely acknowledged that Nyla is trans in a whole year of TV, and whilst I don't imagine anyone would see Sonny and think he was straight, he hasn't actually been stated to be Gay on air either. Although obviously Kenny Omega being less than entirely Out himself* would complicate things... Like, if we're defining everyone's orientation publically and the company Ace won't say, that's a headache.

    * Like, it's widely assumed he's Bi, but he might be a straight guy who was a bit bi-curious as a younger man. We don't know.

I saw a lot of Jake Atlas's final matches before he went to WWE and I wonder if the flamboyantly gay wrestler gimmick might come across as a bit to indie for a national company (publicly traded as well). I wonder if they are just trying to figure his character out in a way that doesn't feel like stereotype. And I'm really glad that Nyla has a personality and character beyond just being trans. Wrestling has a real lack of nuance and subtlety to handle something like that and I think its best just to down play it and let her be a monster heel

The importance of drawing power is a good subject for debate. Wrestling may be an Art but it is also a business. There are no real wrestling critics like there is a vocation/industry of art critics, movie critics, theater critics, etc. The ticket buyers are one of the deciders for the greatness of a worker. Wrestlers are not created, produced or promoted like a (money-making) movie is, nor like a singular artwork (painting, sculpture, so on), nor like a mass produced book or long-running play. The promoter decides to give a wrestler a push, under the creativity of a booker - does this wrestler have the charisma and ability to draw? It is hard to be on top, and being able to draw is part of a great wrestler's skill set. You can be a brilliant worker and unable to draw (or never got the chance) but to earn your place on top is very important to qualify for HOF status - or at least for this one. Meltzer's Hall, Meltzer's rules...

I agree with this, but I have an issue with saying guys like Ultimo Dragon and Arn Anderson don't deserve induction only because they weren't a main event level draw. as if that wipes away all other criteria. I also feel that strong mid card programs (like WCW cruiserweights) can help the overall business but people sometimes seem to want to only focus on who's on top.

Hall's choke slam was to make fun of the Giant, at least when he was doin it in WCW...we jokingly called it the crock bottom.

He even had a taunt where he riffed on the old Frankenstien's monster no knee walk with the arms out front.

Now i wanna fire up Revenge, and then No Mercy.

What was weird was he kept doing the move after The Giant rejoined the NWO

The only wrestling I've watched since the Pandemic has been the WWE PPVs and NXT Takeovers, I was watching NWA Power sometimes MLW and NJPW PPVs. I'm thinking about renewing my NJPW world subscription soon. I want to get back into it. Watch some G1 and Best of Super Jr's. Is New Japan the best promotion in this covid era. I watched the first 5 minutes of MLW and  it wasn't bad. I'm thinking about jumping back into that. I don't want to get into a whole lot of wrestling a week. Just something easy to follow with some quality inring and sensible booking.

Since the beginning of the Pandemic I've been watching/rewatching (since I didn't get to finish it on Netflix) Lucha Underground on Tubi. each episode is 45 minutes so kinda the right amount time

Their tag division is absolutely loaded, and then add in the unsigned teams on Dark too? Jeeeeesus fucking christ. I really wish they'd go this hard at the women's division, but most of the indie talent are probably on the tier zero payscale until AEW/the EVPs are ready to commit to them. And I've said this elsewhere, but I'm fine with Dark being the show where these ladies that are pretty green (but show potential) get a lot of their reps in. Nobody needs to see Lady Frost on national TV yet, but on Dark? That's perfect.

I'm hoping that when ever the second show gets on the air they use it to spotlight the womens title/divison they way that Dynamite has spotlighted the TNT title

I always see this and don't know what is meant. Both are solid. Cable is woven from wire and rope is woven from string, yet when I get close to a ring the ropes are rubber hose, possibly wire reinforced.

WCW rings had "ropes" made out of cable under the rubberhose, WWF/WWE has ropes made out of rope wrapped in tape I belive

I think AEW's big 2021 story is going to be Hangman chasing the title. I don't expect it to last all year or anything, but he's obviously on the cusp of being that guy and there's money to be had in the Omega/Hangman story, even if there are outliers who want the payoff immediately.

If Mox needs time off to be a new dad. It makes sense for him to drop the title to Kenny to set up the chase.... it does feel like Page winning the title has been the story all along. Good long term story telling is something I hope AEW sticks with.

    Not sure if serious? lol

A cleaner is a hitman. When people say go full cleaner they want him to go back to his full on heel gimmick when he was the hitman for the Bullet Club. Dark shades, leather jackets, jet black dyed hair (that part isnt gonna happen), more serious and shit. He's kinda been this aww shucks silly babyface in AEW. Still presented as a threat in the ring obviously, but people want his more focused New Japan presentation.

What exactly is full Cleaner? I know people have been talking about it for a while but I'm not sure what exactly it means other than being a heel and having brooms around.

Kenny described it as Harvey Keitel's Wolf character in Pulp Fiction. They guy you call when you need the mess cleaned up

Kind of like what they did with Ruff tonight in how he handled Gargano & Priest. Its easily the most character he has been given so far in NXT. Really hope he is successful in defending his belt whenever the eventual triple threat happens.

Could see Priest knocks out Gargano and some how Ruff gets the cover.

Blind fold match was fun, that's the type of gimmick that only works if you use it about once ever ten years

gonna rewatch both womens matches tomorrow. really good stuff even if Io hitting her chin seemed to throw off the match for a bit

I saw on Reddit some guy calculated, over the last four episodes of Dynamite, Cody’s entrances alone got more total tv time than Shida.  ?

Cody is starting to get to Dusty booking himself into the main event territory here

Alot of people say Stan Hansen's best year over all was '93. Obviously because his All Japan matches. What other top level wrestlers that have had their best body of work near or at the end of their careers

I'm not quite sure how you would qualify this as he's one of those guys who kept coming back but Foley? Hell in The Cell (taker and HHH), Three Austin matches in 98. Royale Rumble Street fight all right before he stopped being fulltime. Even his return against Orton was pretty good

Well that's a much different era of wrestling though. Moreover, I don't think anyone in wrestling wants to go back to that.

With that said, is it that hard for people to admit no one (OR at least not that many people as you think) is (are) overly enthused to come out and support your wrestling week in and out? You should go to a studio based setup that's more intimate or you need to move venues. Either way, you need a change of scenery. Free tickets ain't it.

One other problem with doing a residency is the lack of ability to road test gimmicks and ideas. One of WWE's strengths was to figure out what was working and fine tune things before making TV via there crazy house show schedule. TNA had an issue of running in the impact zone where they had the same hundred or so fans showing up every week (for free I think) and trying to take over the show. They had no idea of what was working with anyone beyond those hundred or so fans. Both WWE/AEW have a similar issue with the reduced or non fans in attendance. A problem especially for AEW when they still seem to be trying to find their sea legs.

I mean, she was Raesha Saeed in the Kongtourage during what might have been peak TNA Knockouts. Prominent if not exactly... good.

Was TNA still on spike at that point? I honestly wonder if more people saw her on LU or TNA?
