Who really knows at this point. They might throw one on there last minute. Speaking of, not digging how many matches are getting announced so close to the PPV. They normally have things setup a little sooner. Like MJF vs Wardlow has had the proper build for sure. HOB vs DT getting tossed on last night seems haphazard. As does Bucks vs Hardys getting announced only a week out. And the TBS Title match out of blue for Anna Jay with zero TV matches since what that hardcore women's street fight? Hell the Women's Owen Finals won't be set until two days before the PPV.

Not sure why the timing on this one seems so thrown together. I'm still expecting a good show. But wasn't the point of fewer PPVs to really announce in advance and advertise and give everything that old school important feel? That isn't happening here.

Seems like they  suddenly said "oh shit, we don't have anything for the Hardys or the Young Bucks, we've been so busy using them in other programs!".

  2. When I was looking to possible upgrade my tickets at the AEW show in Austin, which wasn’t a PPV, the front row camera facing seats were valued at $1200. Folks here explained to me that it’s something that Ticketmaster has been doing with certain bands and entertainment groups to counter bots and scalpers.

  3. Really good night. Skipping the entrances made the opening match a lot better for me. I’ve been speculating on them ending the Dark Order, and having a hoss tag team plus John Silver as their trio works. House of Black are great wrestlers when they’re not all about their gimmick.

FFWD through Spears. No idea who Big Damo is but as a giant he was shorter than Spears.

As others have said, Velvet-Stat was a surprisingly excellent match and their recent changes have improved both women. Maybe not as stiff striking as the other recent matches but Stat’s power moves make up for it. Ruby on commentary worked since they realized they just needed to cut to her over the top facial reactions, she didn’t add much verbiage-wise.

Main event started pretty one-sided but then Dante Martin showed his fighting spirit! It was smart to not have a prolonged striking segment with Dante since that’s not his forte. His no-hands over the top rope plancha was wow, as they said Jordan ‘88 hang time.

Backstage segments were mostly good, I already agreed with a just drew that we didn’t need yet another Cole-UE segment, just a short Bucks challenging Hardys would work. The training montage segment was gold, only wish that they had Danhausen hanging upside down from the pull-up bar like a bat. The AssClaimed works great and they can let Bowens heal while building to a feud over PaPa’s affection.

I really liked this show. The only thing that bothered me, and I will concede that this is a matter of personal taste, is having to miss out on HOB's entrance just so there would be time for the Jacksons and the Alleged Elite to remind us how much more important they are than anything else happening on the show.

Whereas I was glad to miss out on that corny ass dark magick shit AND the dying Dark Order entrance. But I also could have done without the UE part, just have Bucks challenge Hardys in a 30 second segment.

My feelings on Adam Cole are mixed. I don't really care for the guy. He's not automatic change the channel material for me, but I don't look forward to seeing him. I've enjoyed some of his matches and some have left me rolling my eyes. So, I'm in the same boat as a lot of you here. The interesting thing is, he's extremely over with AEW crowds. So, it's not a case of TK shoving something down our throats that isn't over. He's over as hell, but he's definitely not my thing. So, while I don't want to see him win the Owen, it's kind of hard to say it's bad booking.

This week was a test of my contention that it's his intro and singalong that's over with the crowds, not him in the ring. But I also can't confirm that because of my bias.

Tony Khan must like seeing Fuego flattened by the House of Black. Said before I hope he gets bonus checks.

On Wednesday, I was literally thinking "Huh, guess they finally gave up on trying to make Fuego happen" and boom, there he is on TV making a challenge. I really need to drink more and think less while watching.

That said, other than that match looks like a fine hour of wrestling. Wonder if Spears wrestles that Morrissey dude.

I spent a lot of hours under big radio-style headphones listening to that record. Just layers and layers of music. He also was still doing stuff for NASA launches, has a couple albums about the Rosetta satellite and such.

I'll need to check that out. There's often a fine line between that kind of synth music and goofy new age (and also prog rock/jazz which meh) which is why I never really kept up.

I think the problem isn't so much letting the players have the $$$. Or having a liberal transfer window. It having both at the same time, so there is almost yearly free agency. I dont follow the college game very closely so I could be wrong, but there needs to be some mechanism to limit player movement or there are going to be more problems. Like maybe you cant do both at the same time?

I've seen floated an idea that you have to be at a school for 2 years before you can get your one "free" transfer.

Kind of the same thing. Pretty much all college decisions are financial decisions. Implying that athletes shouldn't make decisions based on money is like saying people shouldn't pick romantic partners based on looks.  I guess,  but almost everyone tries to make the most financially viable decision on college just like people tend to at least try to date the best looking person they can attract.

    I was being pedantic, sorry.

I do totally agree with you but when it comes to being a blue chip football player, you need to balance that immediate payoff with long term earnings. Getting $300k up front to go someplace where you might end up hurting your eventual draft position (and I'm pointing fingers at my Longhorns here) is something that should be considered. For college BBall, where you're one and done and would be drafted out of high school if that was still allowed, then definitely go where the biggest check is.

Evan Stewart "allegedly" got $300k+ in crypto to go to a team running an outdated offense, whose top receiver in 2021 was a TE who went undrafted, and whose leading receiver had 47 catches for 509 yards.

  10. My parents had the Chariots of Fire soundtrack and I played it a lot when I was a kid, sometimes I would run in slow motion around the house like the movie. I recently came into possession of that very record as my mom decided she no longer wanted to hold on to her records and turntable. It's iconic. I got a picture disc of the Blade Runner soundtrack from a Record Store Day a few years back. As an adult, I much prefer that one.

Really, the early 80s radio and top 100 charts were wild as far as the randomness and variety of music that got airplay.

I don't know a single person who went to college for any reason other than the potential money they could make from their degree. That's pretty much the deciding factor for every single person on Earth when deciding their post high school future.

I picked my college based off how much I didn't have to pay/borrow to go to.

Yeah, Nick is probably mostly accurate about schools buying players.  But he really has no moral high ground to stand on.  He oversigns, pays guys under the table, lies to players about staying in jobs, and on and on and on.  But he wins a lot, so he gets a pass from the media for being a hypocritical douchebag, much like a certain basketball coach whose fans call themselves "crazies".

It's sour grapes because A&M outbid them (and other traditional SEC powers and their gentlemen's agreement) on a bunch of players this year.

Honestly, Page is probably my least favorite wrestler whose matches I've actually watched in 2022. I like him less every time I see him. I was done with that match after the death valley driver. Up until that point page had done a fall away slam, a springboard clothesline, a dive, a big boot. He's a twelve year old's create-a-wrestler.

As I was watching that match (and marking out big time), I did notice the criticism of Page that he doesn't really have any build up offensive moves. He's either punches or huge moves. That can work in the context of "he's going to throw the kitchen sink at you" but as someone else mentioned also leads to A LOT of no-selling of killer moves.

  14. I have no idea who the men’s joker was other than fucking awful. Reading here, I guess that wasn’t Johnny Gargano (who I don’t know, remember I’ve only tuned back in the last 8 months after 8 or more years) but John Morrison so makes sense he sucked. Dude was literally directing Joe on camera. I guess WWE isn’t the only promotion exposing the business this week.

On the other hand, @The Naturalneeds to go ahead and update that Best of AEW match list because Takeshita-Page was a banger that made them both look like a million bucks. I want to see Takeshita vs. Punk, Danielson, Mox, Andrade, Dante, any one.

Swerve and Lee (aka StrickLee Business, aka stop trying to make fetch happen JLowe) are great. Workhorsemen are excellent JTTS. I humbly request a Lee-Drake match btw.

Cant recall who called Fenix-KOR as the match they expected nothing from that ended up being great, but damn that was great. I submit that KOR is being held back in the faction and tag team. Stiff, stiff match, had me guessing who was going over, made each other look like champs, excellent selling.

No Jericho singalong (and no Cole singalong) is how it should be done. Makes a happy JLowe. Good heat building segment, having the dissension angle makes it so it’s not an obvious mismatch. And kudos to whoever stole Hager’s luggage and gave him one of the Young Bucks outfits.

Never seen Maki Itoh before. That was...something...Match was fine.

Serena “The Cooler” Deeb is out to confuse the audience and flub lines. I feel bad because it could have been impactful, and I know she’s incredibly talented in the ring.

Main event was there and a foregone conclusion. Post-match was there. Adam Cole is going to win and I’m going to hate it.

Takeshita is a fucking superstar, I don’t care how fluent or not he is in English I want to see him wrestling In AEW all the time. Also, Jim Ross needs to be informed that “Orient” is racist unless you are referring to a specific style of rug.

    Joker guesses:

Men's: Jay White. Just have a feeling we get a Jay White vs Adam Cole final that leads us into Undisputed Elite vs Bullet Club at Forbidden Door.

Women's: Mickie James. A big win for Britt against a known women's star. A good surprise that would be out of left field but doesn't need to win or look strong because she isn't sticking around.

OK, I like that guess for the men.
