  1. I'm guessing you mean a wrestler with a proper training camp because Conor just fought a great wrestler didn't get out-grappled for 25 minutes ( which was what I expected to happen in this fight ).
  2. And that was an ugly fight. I was surprised to see McGregor as the favourite coming in but I guess we saw why. I've been fairly isolated from the McGregor hype and wasn't really sold on him but that was a really solid win. He relies really heavily on his chin though which doesn't bode well for his longevity in the top tier.
  3. That was a great fight. I was worried about MacDonald's headkicks from the beginning and thought the one that snuck through was the end for Lawler. Both guys showed amazing determination. Rory MacDonald is a scary looking dude when his face is all busted up.
  4. My god the 1st and 3rd fights today have brought the violence. Just crazy, cringe-inducing, give-and-take wars both ending with absolutely brutal knees. We get all of the UFC main cards on free tv here but unfortunately no prelims so didn't get the chance to see the Brown/Means fight. The way this show is going though, they might squeeze a replay in at the end. Despite my history of supporting Canadian fighters, I'm really hoping for a win for Robbie Lawler here.
  5. I don't see it. They didn't gain any new fans and most casual viewers will probably swear to never watch another fight but that is pretty meaningless. The only thing that would have brought in those people was a Pacquiao KO and even then the hype train would only last a few fights before those fans disappeared again. 5-10 years from now there will be another massive promotion to draw in casual fans and it will work again. For now it's back to the core audience. That's how I see it anyway.
  6. The reason it makes sense with Faber and not with Punk is that Urijah's a proven legit guy. They're playing the long game with him. Punk has very few fights in him and probably only the one if he does lose in a dominant fashion. They've gotta make their $$$ from the outset.
  7. How much sway does Dana have with the AC's? My thought would be to put Punk against someone like Renzo Gracie. Old, some name value, not a dangerous striker and still wants to compete. Renzo said he wants another fight in the UFC but in reality he would probably get stopped by any mid ( or low ) tier MW's/WW's. There's no upside to anyone beating Punk and something like this at least minimizes the risk of him losing. Plus, if Renzo wins it will be by submission so Punk's got an easy excuse to go out and train some more. My actual first thought was the Joe Rogan - Wesley Snipes rumoured fight ages ago but something like that for Punk would probably slip too far into the carny.
